Play Man's Chew: The Diabolo Video Game
« on: October 01, 2005, 03:19:28 am »
To celebrate the greatness of the Man's Chew video, I have made a Man's Chew video game.
You play as Sean performing daring feats of 2d or 3d. Go for wild siteswaps and rack up huge scores.

You'll need the Flash plug-in.

Hope you folks enjoy it and please send me your high scores, suggestions, etc...

that was fun, i think i would have been better if there wasnt the catch factor invovled. well, both versions. one to just mess around with siteswaps and one to actually catch them with moving and such.

but that definatly entertained me for a few minutes

Haha, pretty neat. (sean moves very fast)
I also put a diabolo in a video game of mine...which is not quite done yet. Look at my avatar, that is in my game, but you fight people using a diabolo as one of the characters.
Go Draco with your Diabolo!

hah neet

it would be nice if it were closer because its kind of hard to see as it is

also im not able to go all the way over the edge of the picture

last thing the throws dont seem very actuate like if you leave it throwing 2s and dont move they will go to far and will drop im not shore if this was intentional which would be understandable but yeah…

fun stuff

haha this thing is cool, but it's TINY....at 1280x1024 i am straining my eyes to see it.....want to make a big version? perhaps 2 or 3 times the size? :D

edit: you should also make an option for 3D....sean can do 3 ya know, plus that'd add a little flavor.

Nice game!  Only suggestions I would give is make it bigger (it doesn't matter if it looks a little pixelated ;)) and perhaps allow the use of the keyboard to move Sean instead of or aswell as the mouse.  And also, it let me catch two at once.

Make the screen size bigger.
Make the controls better... mine did not work on the numpad, that would be better.
I would love a 3d version in the future.
when you throw a diabolo, make sure the next throw with that diabolo is just a 2, or based upon the users choise. make sure the 1 is just 1 one ;)
make the option for pirouettes if possible.

Bigger
More diabs
1 sun instead of just carrying on and the same for all the other numbers, when you throw one 4 the next time you catch that diab it throws it as a 4 as well, this is annoying.
Pirouettes?

I agree with the comments above:

 - Bigger screen
 - 360s
 - 3d option
 - etc... :)

Very nice idea! Cool to see a siteswap game :D

someone should make an rpg like tony hawk underground except different.   Like we should have a person start out with harlequin and some crappy tricks then u practice and get better and compete in a very small competion to get money to buy better diabolos and what not.  Practice till you get as good as the MFP and compete with them in the WJF competition.  What do u think of my idea?

J_J777, its a nice idea, i have thought about this for a long, long time. I just can't think of a decent way to control the diabs in anyway at all, unless you stick with siteswap like the mans chew game(which is really cool) Button combo's is all i can think of. Any other ways would be ridiculously complicated i think. The only other problem is there would be limited tricks, unless you added some kind of trick builder, which would also be very complicated. But its a great idea! I would love to see it happen!

Maybe this subject deserves a new thread....

Thanks a lot for trying it out. With your help, maybe we can shape it up into a nice little game. Here are answers and excuses to some of your comments:

1) Yes, there is a built in error factor -- error2=((d2._x-sean._x+28)/10)+((power2-2)/10)+sunerror;  -- without it you never have to move and the game really isn't much fun. I'll make a button to disable it, though if you want.

2) You can't go all the way to the left side of the screen, because there's a car parked in Sean's way.  Why? You'll have to ask Sean.

3)Thanks for the input on the controls. Would you like it better if every throw was a two by default, unless you asked for something else?

4) I will try to make the next version bigger. I was limited by the size of the original Mans Chew video.

5)I'll definitely have three diabolos in next version. I love the idea for an RPG, but that's a lot of labor. The trick builder is another great idea.

6) The new high score is Jake's at 39,000. Jake, how did you do it?

7) Keep the suggestions coming and I'll get to work on version 0.9

Thanks,
Tom

The rpg idea is a realy good idea but it could take months/years to build, it would also be very complex. Another possible idea would be for a game like runescape but again complex/time consuming. Any budding game producers out there?

This whole thing cracks me up. A bit flattering... a bit disturbing. I love it. :)

Tom, I have a 1600x1200 photo of the Man's Chew wall that you may be able to use if you want. I'll send it your way.
