Left sun/Left C-Fan (difference) tutorial
« on: December 10, 2005, 05:39:39 pm »
Hey you guys,

Recently on diastylo.nl (Dutch diaboloforum) we had some discussion about the difference between synch and asynch shuffles/tricks, and someone asked the difference between left suns and a left c-fan. We explained, and I made a little tutorial. So I thought let's post it on d.ca as well!

I already knew the difference but the tutorial was nice and I'm sure some people would have found it useful.

Your videos are always so fun to watch!  The different angles are really cool even though I already knew the difference, and the quality and setting were neat too.

Thanks,
Andy

And the mp4 is also up now.

Thanks for those kind words! I just like making videos, and since I learnt using Vegas and Virtualdub the quality is very nice! :)

for the record: you owe it all to me, I asked for the difference ;).

Great vid Martijn, you should make a long film soon with a story or something, the intro was cool with the foggy Dutch landscape and the James Bond tune :).

I was unsure myself, until I learned from Diabology that a c-fan is just consecutive suns, just without the "set-up throw" between each one. The different angles in that video demonstrated that point nicely. I'm sure that video was informative and helpful to those who didn't know the difference.

You have a knack for putting together a nice video. Good editing, transitions, all that stuff.

Hey, thanks for posting in the right thread, searching can be hard sometimes. :)

I look at the Fan as an asynch sun motion. Learn the regular Fan (left / counterclockwise), learn left suns, and try to go from left suns (which are synch), into an asynch motion (left-right-left-right), so your left sun becomes a left C-Fan. It's exact the opposite of a regular Fan. There are several ways to start it:

 - left sun (aka out of 'nothing')
 - high toss (magic knot/handstart/'pop' out)
 - outside transfer

In the beginning you won't be able to do more than 2 or 3 revolutions, but with practise you can try to hold it longer and longer. Remember, the left diabolo loses spin, especially with really old string.

ok...i can do all this..the unic problem is i cant go into the asinch motion....i can do all basics fan (also swingini and 360 or more but this is the most difficult!

Have you tried different entries? That's what I found one of the hardest parts really... I first learnt the high toss start, that was the easiest for me.

Woops, after changing the location of the files, I totally forgot to change it on here. No need to mirror them (because the links are working again, and if not, I'd be happy to upload them again), but thanks for noticing. And I'd rather take care of my videos myself.

I hope you find the video useful stroevey.

I still can't do the C-fan, but I can do the normal fan (or can't I Martijn :)?), is it really just a matter of reversing the arm-movement?

Basically.... here it is: there are clockwise fans and anticlockwise fans. You can do these fans on either the left side or right side of your body. Then there are these so-called S-Fans, where one of the diabolo is on the darkside of the string (purpose is to maintain speed).

Sun to knot is like missing a sprinkler yes... the outside transfer entry is like entering a sprinkler from a wrap on one diabolo. I can't really explain well...

after learning all the standart fans (ac,s), I also wanna learn the left c-fan!
but as most of you guys, I'm having the biggest trouble with the entry...... ::)
I know that there are several ways to do it, but anything won't work probably... :P

tijn's tutorial is very nice, but I think it doesn't help me much more... :-|

is there another easy entry you know?

apart from that, has anybody some tips for the hand motion?
I'm especially struggling with the left hand motion, the right hand seems to work fine!

hope I get some help because the c-fan just looks amazing(in sun-combos e.g.)!

thanks in advance and sorry for bumping(didn't find a more recent thread, though..),

Dennis

I'm thinking of filming a little tutorial/workshop type thing of this. Just something simple and quick where I talk you through and demonstrate the various entries. Give me a bit of time...

It's a question that comes up a fair bit and that's probably best answered on film.

hi, Dennis. I think you can visit Martijn's great website:http://www.circusplanet.net/ and you can find this useful video:http://www.circuspla.net/diabolo/video/2d/fans/cfan_left.mpg
Martijn shows three ways to do c fan. I learn how to do c-fan by watching this video.
