Looks to me like they're just spinning a wheel.
The possibilities acutally seem quite limited judging by that, apart from maybe "Michael Jordan'ing" them or throwing them at children.

Define "MOAR SKILL"?

Have you looked at the arms on those guys using those? Maybe it's not so much more skill - maybe it's just the diabolos are made for bodybuilders.

Found some footage on Kongzhu:
http://www.kongzhu.com/programs/view/?v=GXRH9YhvAo9 - Some nice creative stuff in this video. Awesome pocket trick at 1:48 and the palm trick at 2:30 is crazy.

Also some footage towards the end of this video.

I found these images a great display of an ammount of skill together with some creative ways of approaching the object and it's exploration in shape and form.

Indeed

It looks like its pretty, hard, but hmmm I dont know, I've never tried one, its certainly cooler than just a giant two sided one.

So, is this going down or what?

There wasn't any juggling in the opening ceremony, but there were people in Beijing with the huge diabolo thingies.

I saw diaboloists in beijing (next to the stadium) while watching tv, probably they had a smaller ceremony on 6.8 (when the games started).

I've just found a german site with an articla about diabolo. There it's said that China wants to put 1000 diaboloists in the ending fest of the olympic games 2008.
Has anyone heard of this yet or do you have any other information about it?

Flo

the origanal post said it was going to be in the ending fest

Holy cr@p!  Those are some long-arse sticks!

For people who say, "those huge Chinese diabolos", call them kongzhu's.  They're the "proper" name for any diabolo-shaped toys there...including those big one-sided ones.

Also, I believe all the political banter on China should go under the "Politics" section of this forum...wait a minute...

By the way, funny thing:  When I translated the conversation, this is what Babel Fish had to offer:
Quote from: interviewee]For a long time also adults humans use it for physical education.[/quote]
[quote="interviewee-again
And in the morning you can see humans with the Diabolo already early playing in parks.

I SO want to put that up on engrish.com...XD  HUMANS!  HA!

Plus, in the first few minutes of this, I was afraid he might fly off due to the force  :D :D :D

^Just found this from a random search so I guess there was at least some coverage of diabolo even though nothing seemed to be mentioned on TV.

Oh and sorry if it was pointless to bring this up again but thought this fitted nicely here in an already existing thread.
