Diabolo.ca Awards 2006?
« on: August 21, 2006, 01:27:33 pm »
What would everyones opinion be on organising a little forum awards thing?  It would only be a bit of fun and just a tool to recognise certain members who stand out as being nice/friendly/all round excellent forumites.

I've seen similar awards programmes done on other forums and it always seems to bring together the community.  I havent thought about it too much but some categories could include

-Most friendly forumite
-Most intelligent forumite
-Most improved forumite (standard of diaboloing)
-Best newcomer (those who have joined within the past 12 months)
-Best thread? (Maybe more for an off topic forum)
-Best video? (Could transfer from favourite video thread)
-Best all round forumite

Its just an idea and Im sure we could come up with many more categories. Voting could be done by selecting 3 people for each category, a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. 1 point for 3rd, 2 for 2nd and 3 for 1st.  Voting could be pm'd or included in this post (up to you really).

Let me know what you think

I don't know, I've never heard of it before, but to me it sounds kinda lame. But if you guys would like to make it happen, I don't see why not!

The only way of awarding people is to have the title "Best [inserttitlehere] 2006" under their name. Not to sure if the idea would realy work. However 'Tijn would have "the most active forumer" title in the bag

Well yeah, you can't compete with statistics :P And I don't know if voting for "the most intelligent member" is a nice thing to do. You might put other people down or something...

The most intelligent is a silly idea as most of diaboloing doesn't have too much to do with being clever. Maybe if there was an off-topic forum to do with Stephen Hawking's theories of black holes and cosmology it would be worth having an award for that.

You say that, but most of the MFP are in fact engineers, its fair to say there is a link between being intelligent, and being a skilled juggler

there may be a link, but it doesnt mean that you HAVE to be intelligent to be a skilled juggler, it may help but you dont have to be.

Look at Adam for example, he doesnt know how to Spell "circle" (Sirkle) but he can do diabolo pretty well.

(Dw, im not being mean to a random Member, its a long time running joke ;) )

[OT]hmm, maybe intelligence is linked with creativity...[/OT]

i don't need awards, neither for me, nor for others - it's a nice community as it is. right?

Can`t we just claim awards?? Would be a lot easier!! I won`t pull the "I claim this and that" card.
Okay fun idea, lets keep it that way.

awards are stupid. my main forum does those at the end of the year, and to be honest, they are stupid. and hardly anyone votes either. diabolo.ca is way too small to actually HAVE awards, and much, much too small to have enough votes to make it worth it.

See, I've seen lots of forums and often are huge with loads of members and loads of posts, most in a very short period of time.  Which always makes me wonder, people must be posting one line replies of some form of inanity so end up with thousands of posts.

We're a more "tidy" organisation here.  Very on-topic.

how about a guess what 3rd base ideology is competition, with prizes for closest to the truth and most obscure interpretation, just about everyone on the forum has had a crack at guessing, may as well reward prizes for it
