Loop string video
« on: December 17, 2004, 02:12:04 am »
Hi all,

I've been working on my loop diabolo routine again.   It still needs work (as the number of edits in the video show! ), but I wanted something to record with my shiny new camcorder, and thought I should share, especially because there doesn't seem to be very much loop stuff out there, and I think loop diabolo is great.

I have a new found respect for the makers of the well edited videos that get posted here!  :)

The video: http://www.2diabolo.net/media/popcorn.mpg (17mb)

Dave.

mod edit: for those that are interested in Yukky's loop diabolo video: http://www.circuspla.net/mirror/yukky.wmv

Thanks Barnesy, thats great. It's nice to see some loop diabolo. I was having a go at loop the other day, I havent got two yet but I think I'll trya bit harder now.

The bit at 0.38 -0.39 is lovely as is the big trick at 2.17.

I think that was one of the best videos ive seen on this forum (maybe not technically the best), love the choice of music, im gonna start diaboloing to popcorn all the time

babebabebuhdabuh babebabebuhdabuh

gonna be in my head all day :)

I learnt two diabolos originallly from your website, and loop diabolo as well, its good to finally see a new video! given me a few new things to think about, been getting pretty stale with two diabolo loop tricks.

As far as the editing goes, i thik you could have put it down to trying to sync up with the music and  there didn't seem to be much editing during the 1 diabolo set

bubuhbe badaba ba be  dabbadaba de dah be dabdeh da da de da

right time to get the loop of string out again, warm up the popcorn and get inspired!

cheers
Nez

nice one mate. I think the tune goes really well with the pace that you have. I wasn't aware you could do half of that stuff with a loop.

Its really nice to see the loop as its different and would be nice to see some more.

Cheers.  And yes - popcorn is fantastic!

I did give myself some troubles trying to edit to the music.  The one stuff is all in there as filmed, so fits quite easily.  There were more tricks with two to fit in than I had music for, which is why the two section is edited so much.

I'm hoping to use an extended edit of the music when I actually perform the act.  It's too short as it is.

Thanks for the feedback.

Definitely.   On top of the string (the middle bit of the video) it'd be very similar to the 'with sticks' version.  I've played with it a bit, but the string I use is pretty short when used like that, which doesn't help.   I've not tried them much inside the loop.  I'll have a play with it over the weekend.

Generally, I think there are ways to do most 'normal' tricks with a loop (stick grinds may be pretty hard though    ).  It's not always  harder, it's just different

Hi, barnesy! Nice to meet you. :D
It's a good video! I like it.
In Japan, there are some people to loop diabolo and many new tricks are being created.
I think it is difficult to loop 2diabolos on the string with 1 hand,
but you did it. Great!

Anyone got a tip on how to tie the string so it doesnt come loose. Now I just tie it normaly 3 or 4 times, but that comes loose after a while, and have potential to create some havoc which me parents wouldnt like...
So is there a standard knot for loop strings?

Yeah, same here.  It seems too big to start with, but the knot gets smaller as it pulls tight, and doesn't seem to come undone, like the other knots I've tried do.

I found another loop string video at this site and this definatly uses Micro Viper diabs as thats what its promoting, I think it might've been Kolibris that Yukki used as their cup size seems larger

On the subject of knots, I gave up practisin loop string ages ago cuz I couldn't find a knot that 1) worked for me or 2) I could figure out how to do.  But thx to this thread I've picked it up again and started using the double fishermans  :D

I think Yukky might be using a spinabolo junior bearing type diabolo (but thats just a guess), Barnesy is hardcore of course so he uses full size Henrys fixed axle.
I know GbH uses a small bearing diabolo for loop and it seems to work well.

I only use the loop (can't be doing with this stick business) and I think the best loop diabolo within a small price range is the Mr Babache micro or rainbow. Small and fast for about a tenner. Poifect.

The first Pontefract video on the forum.

Was that a little inverse trapese after you caught the whipcatch at the end?

You seem to have improved everytime i see you.

We will have to aquire a decent camera and get the whole Pontefract lot on soon.

Well, the sticks do have their appeal, but I consider myself an experiment. I have absolutely no skill or experience with sticks, so I'm going to see if I can become amazing wih the loop. Haha.

I'm not too sure what that thing was after the last whip catch, it may have been a variation on a simple yoyo trick but  I'm not sure. I'lll try to figure it out again.

In the mean while I think a Ponte video is a great idea. Me and Ginger Tom already have some stuff from Leeds on camera and I have some of the necessary equipment to perform this daring operation. Let's get to it.

The video didn'y work for me so i don't know if i'm repeating what was done in that. Doing figure of 8 around both arms really fast looks great but you get terrible scars on your wrists from the string. You can mess around trying to do it around as many body parts as you can, if you have a long enough string i reckon you could probably do 1 leg, both arms, and your body. WYou caould try doing excalibur with it. I have tried but i can't do it. I've never seen it done so it would be really cool if you got it.
Diabolumberyo has a video on his trick of the week section on his site.
http://trickoftheweek.free.fr/, its the April 2005 video of him.
Theres some cool stuff there too.

I've been playing around with some 2d loop tricks. I can't do much but i think there is much more out there to do with 2d

I've been thinking about 3d on the loop. With 2d once you have speed you can do 2 in one hand easily for quite some time. If you got a second peson to drop a 3rd diabolo into the loo[ i reckon you could probably get some speed. And then you could try 3 in one hand, and it might be easier on the loop as it was with 2d.

But thats just an idea... probably won't work.

Hope that is of some help.

There used to be 5 pages,  but I had to do some modding in the topic yesterday, because I'm now mirroring (sp?) Yukky's video at www.circuspla.net/mirror/yukky.wmv (not temporarily), so I had to remove some dead links etc. Besides, the name of the song is probably on page 3.
