BOB (Bristol's Other Bristol Convention)
« on: October 23, 2006, 10:28:59 am »
I just saw that this was happening (see http://www.bristolcircus.co.uk/) there doesnt seem to be any other info apart from the date (25th Nov) but is anyone gonna go?
I havent been to a convention since PLAY and really miss the feeling. I would be going to leeds but a friend has decided to have her 21st birthday on that day (typical!). I'm going to see if I can round up a group from Soton but they wont necessarily be diaboloists.
Anyone got any other info?

The website for BoB has more info and is here: http://www.juggler.net/bob

I'll be there, and I know a few other people from the forum are definitely going.

See you there!

Yep, I'm hopefully going if it's not gonna clash with something horribly.  But it's only a short drive away so most definitely.  Glad they're bringing it back.

convention review!

the venue

just one quite busy main hall, with hanging lights so not allot of room for bigger stuff like two high [well my two high] but cheers for the bob organisers for bringing it back.

the people

what a busy convention it was , so that meant not much vertax on show but allot of  diabolo'ers for me to meet, forum members I enjoyed having a diabolo and a chat with include the magnificently folicaly endowned, crazy clown,  Susannah [pm sombody bout software!] and jem. I also enjoyed having a beer with vux and barnsey and chatting about all things diabolo.

The Show

two quite different diabolo acts on show.

norbi preformed a fast paced technical show with a few new bits thrown in I think. I'd be very interested to here his own opinions on it.and a diabolo'er that was new to me,I'm not gonna try for a name, I'm sure lots of people know who he is, who did a quite different more European ish show, incorporating listening to the little voices inside his diabolo, It was very enjoyable and a nice change once again opinions wanted

ow and void compared well  with his own brand of humour.

final thoughts

All in all a sweet day, coulda done with more space and a workshop or two more. nice to meet some new people.
did I meet you sage? [i was the bloke in the slayer t shirt]
ow and a big thanks to the people who let me crash in the house!

not sure if we met formally but i saw you for sure.  i was the one working on acceleration 2d in a green shirt (whoever gave me the tips, thanks very helpful)

i really enjoyed the second diabolo performance (where he was listening to the voices of the diabolo's). i thought i was creative and impressive.

t'was my first juggling convention and i was quite happy to meet vux (one of my favorite dioboloist) and to get a chance to watch him in person.

I just cant believe how much of an idiot I am.  I was looking forward to this for ages, reminded myself all week to go, come Saturday it becomes completely alien.  Nothing triggered at all. Probably missed one of the best opportunities to meet some local/distant talent, and knowing it was only a 5 minute train ride away f***s me off even more.

Anyone able to offer some photo memoirs?

It was good to meet you Mark.

Not sure if I met you Sage (I was the guy with the 2 green Circus in black combats.)

I actually have most of Norbi's act on my digicam although I was at the back and had to zoom in which has made the quality a bit poor and shaky. I don't mind putting it on utube, but that's totally up to Norbi and I won't do anything with it without his say so.

Sorry Looby, didn't get round to taking photos.

Really good day though, full of friendly people  :)

The 'other' diabolo guy's name was Jonas (Egli?), from Switzerland.

I compèred, I didn't compare. Different words, almost the same pronounciation. (Information, not censure)

A funfun day i must say. Learnt a couple of bits and bobs but also lost my ability to do vertax genocides by the end of the day ???
Was great to see old faces and new faces alike and even though he turned up about an hour before the games the appearance of Vux was a nice suprise, especially when he had lots of very silly contact moves to show off with.
Show was well diabolo represented with Norbi's snazzy routine and then the rather weird and funky one by Jonas. I got these on my camera although there were moving heads in the way etc and no sound as well as the pretty cool contact routine. Wish I got the James bond stylee juggling one tho :(
All in all I'm glad I went even though there was a lack of workshops...Cheers for the great day everyone who put it on and went...

that was me.... ;D

I think it might have been you who showed me the s-fan as well (I thought at first you may have been called Adam, but must be Andy) Anyways, if it was you, I can do it now and I've landed the 'triangle' reverse backside stopover type thingy exit a few times as well.

Thanks!

I have found that you can cheat a bit with the exit by manipulating the string with your fingers while the diab sits in the triangle. This enables you to enlarge the triangle which in turn allows you to pop it up and out.

Congrats on the 2d mini gen.
