Diabolo exams!
« on: January 14, 2007, 12:03:28 pm »
For my GCSE English aural mock exam I am going to have to do a talk about Diabolos which has to last about 3 min maybe. Anyone got any ideas what to include or where I could get any interesting information?   ???

Yeah but it can't be me just trailing off about tricks I can do 'n stuff (wouldn't last long). Its got to be interesting to someone who has no idea what it is. :-\
Anyone know where I could find a history of diabolo or something?

Talk about history, different groups of tricks, brands, advantages of different diabolos/sticks, famous diaboloists, records, physics, crossovers with other skills, loop diabolo, terms, conventions, distributers etc...

That should last you 3 minutes.

For the talking bit. speak slowly and calmly. 3 mins might seem like a lot but you should be able to rattle that off nicely. Plan it out into sections that hopefully fit together well. Good luck

There's a talking section in GCSE English?  I don't seem to remember that.  Basically, it's giving a short presentation, isn't it?  In which case I wholeheartedly recommend what Seán says about speaking slowly and calmly.  Standing infront of people watching you invariably causes you to rush things in an effort to remove yourself from the situation as fast as possible.  If you can speak calmly, you will appear in control and you'll be able to relax which will make it easier.

Of course this only applies if you think you won't have enough to say.  I would have imagined that there would be loads to talk about, in which case planning and preparation is the key.

*edit* on second thoughts, I think I did a presentation on Pokémon

well done on the A! ive done a speach on juggling too, also designed a lesson sequence on teaching various types of juggling (including diabolo).
