Taibolo Diabolos (Gong-Qun)
« on: June 15, 2007, 12:08:26 am »
I have just received some samples of the Taibolo (Gong-Qun) brand that William now uses (& helped design with diaboloists in mind).

If the interest is there, I'll start importing these as well as the Fly's.

I've only had 10 mins to play with them so far but they seem just as nice as when I tried Williams at BJC.

They are very much like a diabig cup (not as hard plastic as the Fly's) but SOOOO shiny and better manufactured - you can see you're reflection in the cups as you shuffle  ;D  The hubs are like the circus POM curved and the axles are like a slightly wider diabig / yoho / circus hybrid. (These are FIXED AXLE diabolo's by the way)

Vital statistics are
Diameter = 130mm (same as a Circus - Finesse is 133)
Width = 146mm (wider than a stock Circus (140) or Finesse (136)
Weight = 260g

Colours available are
Purple - with a pearl effect (it doesn't show on the pics but they change colour depending on the light).

White

Black

Dark Orange

+ One other? (currently in production to replace the apple green)

I'm away camping at the weekend and (weather permitting) I'll get to session them properly and post an honest opinion on how they play next week.

Not plastic - not rubber - somewhere in the middle - they are soft and squishy like a circus - but still smooth & shiny

hmm, they are so shiny i would buy them as decoration but is there any reason to go for that diabs istead of fixed flys? as you know i need some more flys(i love them) but is there a reason to change my plan... do the continentals spin longer, are they even more stable hmm, im waiting for your review but i doubt i'll go for them...

they have the same characteristics like a circus with JC´s ultra leicht kit(normal width) wheight, size, shape of the hubs and axle.... they even look the sameexcept for the shinyness!

I have a pedicament now between these and the Fly's. Are the inside of the cups different colours like William's?

Oh nice, more hi-tech diabolo gear ;) I think I''m happy with one set of Fly's, so don't count on me. I am however interested in hearing the review, before deciding. Thanks for all your efforts Nev! I'm sure people will like them.

Oh and please read his post first John:

It'll be 2-3 months before I have any available for sale

I´ll probably be interested in some. Seriously, for having to import them all the way from China you manage to keep a really good price. Wish my "local" shop would do the same, but they´re just greedy.

Yes I have black and white hubs in Stock,
the weight is 250g,
the "Standard Leicht Kit" adds no width compared with a Henrys Circus with Alu Hubs.

All colours of the half shells are possible to get them mixed,
also it is possible to get mixed half shells (all colours) and additional mixed hubs (black and white).
Please see the additional sample blue/orange half shells with white "Standard Leicht Kit".

The price is 32 Euro, this is today 21,6 british pounds.

It is also possible to get the axle kit seperately, the price is 13,5 Euro
PayPal is possible, shipping depends on the country you live

Nice to see that they had copied the shape of the hubs

I am really shocked they look similar on picture
the shape of the hubs for Grand Contenental Diabolo was made according to the drawing of William. not copy Henrys Circus Standard Leicht Kits
William and the manufactor had never seen Henrys Circus with similiar hubs before, me either. I wonder  most of diaboloist on this forum  are at the same situation. the idea came into William's mind two years ago.  it seems designer from Henry's had the same thought  as William. We love Taibolo because they are truly We want. i am curious about the Henry's ones if it is as good as Taibolo ? (or better ? or worse?) why we'v never seen them before ?

The Standard Leicht Kits are an invention of JC's he made to improve greatly on the Henrys Circus.  It's not an Henrys invention, but a forum member with a good idea.  They do look very similar though, which is a shame, I hope it doesn't affect things.

I can imagine that people who think about diabolo alot will come up with similar ideas, an i"nev"itability perhaps?

You are right, it is a blatant thread hijacking, but I feel it is in this case legitimately.

@nev
Excuse me for the thread hijacking, I will stop posting inside this thread from now on, but I hope
you understand my point of view.

@angela945
The first picture of the Henrys Circus with the "Standard Leicht hubs" appeared on 5. October 2006 (10/5/2006) in this thread
http://diabolo.ca/forum/index.php?topic=933.msg31309#new

I started selling them last year in July, perhaps Arjan could approve this.

@chiok
Thank you for your last post, to clear up the situation of the developing.

Ok, it is possible that different people came to the same results, if they think about one problem,
but keep in mind the diabolo is very old, and the first "inside" round axe (Ultra Leicht Kit) for a diabolo came out two years ago from my side.

Think also about the illuminated light sticks of Peter (OLOBAID)...
Out of my point of view the situation is not good for people who have new ideas to improve the estabished equipment...

@miesta
Out of the reason stopping hijacking this thread I post the pictures of the washers in this thread

i"nev"itability got me smirking

All this controversy, while the poor man is camping. I had a go on williams at the bjc and they played very nicely a  hybrid in a good sense. As for the whole hub shape debate I think that it is just a case of independent invention. Like the fact that dragons appear in the mythology of un connected groups of humans. I didn’t know William was personally involved in the design that’s a bit bling.

These would suit performance diabolo-ist who isn’t bothered about bearings for their sexy looks and smooth play. Or just people who can’t resist a new diabolo let alone one used by William Wei-Liang.

Those purple ones look like a leap forward in diabolo colouring. Its 2007 I think we have reached the point wear we should be expecting more from the appearance of props. The better and more professional they look the more seriously we will be taken by some members of general public they won’t continue to call them "toys." Yes I have had that indignity written about me.

Think that enough from me
