Modding a Finesse
« on: August 24, 2007, 11:55:50 pm »
I was thinking, how much would a few grams taken from the center of the Finesse improve spin, I've already thought of several ideas to make it lighter, make the hole in the axle bigger, and use a thinner bolt to hold it together.

So you're talking about modding one? I'd say put weight around the edge of the cup also.

I had a similar idea.
Since Spinabolo originals have the same width as finesses, i was hinking to attach the finesse outside to the spinabolo's single bearing axle.
if i was able to do this, not only would i have a single bearing without engraving on the bell (Makes it so i cant do a few vertax tricks), but id be able to attach a light kit to a single bearing.

You can already get a modification to make Finesse bearing axled.

Well I was also thinking about just using a small washer instead of that bulky thing for the inside of the cups to hold it together, and see if I can drop at least 10g so that it's back at the original weight of a g2 and g1

It'd be worth a try, but with diabolos that light you'll notice any balance problems really easily. I'd keep it the same -the G3 feels almost exactly like the G2 IMO. What's 10 grams anyway?

Well, I've been using g3's for months now, and they give off very few vibrations, and are extremely stable IMHO. I went to my friends house and played with his G2's and they were giving off vibrations like it was going out of style, and had stability issues, I could also feel a noticeable lack of weight >_>... So by keeping the 10g added to the rims of the g3's and lightening the center by what would be a goal of 10gs then it's like adding 20gs to the outside, and thus reducing vibrations, and increasing stability, and spin.

Ok well I made a mock-up from parts I already had, I don't know the actual weight loss but I noticed smoother spin and it weighed less obviously. Just some washers and the bolt and nuts from a spinabolo.

I think also about making a modded axle for the finesse in the moment,
the shape would be nearly the same as for my "Ultra Leicht Kits" for the henrys circus,
when I´m ready I will provide some pictures here.

Cool, I think I already have a final design in place where most of the parts you can get at a local hardware store, the only thing I need are nylon fender washers >_>
