Anodizing Sticks?
« on: December 23, 2007, 04:07:37 am »
I saw something in Popular Science a while back that had Theodore Gray anodizing titanium to get permanent colors. Would it be possible to do this with aluminum sticks to get some sick-looking sticks?

It is possible to anodize aluminium in different colours,
for sample blue, red, black, green.... but you need an
aluminium sort which is anodizable.

The first two hits on Google give THIS and THAT which should be enough information on how to anodize you're own aluminium.  Aluminium was pretty much the original adonizing metal, titanium's a new one to me.

It's very much like the electro-plating process so is perfectly achievable at home.  Though I imagine once you start, you'll have trouble stopping at the thought of coloured metals.

Sweet, well I just read through the first link you provided, and everything I need is in my chemistry lab at school (I'm taking Chemistry 1 AP so it's like the first year of College Chemistry, and my teacher loves me)! When I get a new pair of Henry's Aluminum Sticks and my camcorder, expect a nifty tutorial! I love custom equipment! The hardening of the outer layers of the aluminum should improve their durability even though they are already indestructible.
