So if you just get the three central colours like in this picture I stole from the site.

And got the cyan/yellow/magneta and dyed your diabolo evenly in thirds- Lz - It should work?
And if you went green blue and red in the same pattern, would it go black?

Black is an absence of colour says I

Well, black is more or less the absolute presence of color- the reason we see distinguished colors is because they absorb certain wavelengths and frequencies of light, but only reflect certain others. So when you blend several different colors, you end up with a very dark, even black color because each color in the mix is absorbing several kinds of light, and little color is reflected.

And, this is kind of relevant to your post; the only reason we then see this black color, is because it is returning little light and contrasts to the brightness around it as a dark void.

Anyways, I don't think the idea of having a few blots of some colors spinning to make a black diabolo would work, unless you got the diabolo to spin as fast as light. If the blots of color were actually MIXED, though- then you might get something.

I think the only way to settle this is to actually try it.

well this worked, maybe you could do what he did. use RGB, only make more strips, thinner strips.
Thank you, thank you.

Maybe I shall try both. What sort of effect on it does it have if I use thinner or wider strips? I probably will try this later after work!

Methinks if you use thinner (and more) strips the diabolo would need less speed to make the colours morph into white.

So it may be better to use bigger strips, so that when it spins slower you would get that wagon wheel effect similar to 'dave from the graves'?

Um no, you wouldn't. 3 would do. The others are a combination of those and would be redundant.

and

http://www.google.com/search?q=spinning%20colors%20white

I think this could definitely work. Maybe it could even work with just 3 big stripes of colour if it's spun fast enough? If the strips weren't evenly spaced the whole way out (i.e. they were parallel as if on a flat plane and you had more of them as you moved out), then the outside would look white before the inner sections. That would be neat too.

Thanks for the input, I guess I should've started with the google search  ;D
The last idea would be great aswell, I hope someone will be successful with this

This all is starting to sound pretty familiar... Isn't this the same thing,
they tried to do with those multicolored arlequins. Which obviously doesn't
work with those colors and the way they made it.

I believe that became later. And it's actually transformation from cow to zebra. ;)

But seriously, i can't imagine any other reasons for Mr. babache to create multicolored
diabolo that just looks ugly while spinning. Maybe they tried that white thing. Or just
bought a pile of junk rubber in different colors.

They do smell like that.

All whack comments from my side aside: the idea is awesome, I'd love to see it for real. Who's up for it?
