Street busking Barcelona ( no show ) just a hat
« on: November 16, 2009, 11:21:49 am »
Anyone got any experience with juggling in Barcelona with just a hat and not a show?
I'm going to Barcelona for a week with school and in my free time I would like to try this out =)
And do you know any good spots? I'm going to the center of Barcelona!

Thanks,

Ramon

Yes! La Rambla. That will be obvious once you get there. Google it. Not sure if you need a permit.

I've busked on La rambla during my stint on the road.

A few tips.

-Make yourself as brash and showy as possible, don't bother with any of your technical tricks. Concentrate on the crowd pleasing stuff.

-Talk to people in clear English or Catalan/Spanish

-Imagine you have never seen diabolo before and you are out on a nice walk in Barcelona, what would make you stop and watch for a little while.

-Don't throw away tricks that you could give a big build up to.

-Be honest with yourself! how many tricks that a crowd would really like have you got 100% solid? write them down and then stick to those.

All basics of being a successfull street performer. No need for a permit just find a spot and do your thing [that was the case when I terned up 2007ish]. As a side note I saw a busker get a  HUGE crowd by just doing high throws, and involving volunteer's, this was in a square very close to La Ramblas. Its all about the strength of your Kong fu when it comes to performing.

So good luck!

La Rambla is the place to busk, be careful about setting up in any of the "regulars" spots though as I think in theory you do need a permit (but no-one minds unless you p*** the locals off).

Follow all of BMCs tips. There aren't that many juggling acts about on the Ramblas, one guy does a bit of contact and there are a couple of football jugglers. You'll probably do well in the parks too (Parc Guell, if you are being a bit of a tourist) and I've had loads of people stop and stare when I play as there aren't all that many diaboloists about compared to spinners/jugglers.

When are you here? Pm me for a meet up?

Good luck!

I juggled at Las Ramblas a few years ago, when I was starting.
You need a permit, I learned that the hard way  :P

I think you just came pretty close. Those are great pieces of advice and very well put. Every beginning juggler should read them before facing the public...

Don't know exactly, but this city website seems to discuss it. It's in Spanish, of course. You could try this translation into English (or change the language). Your best bet is probably to contact them through that website and ask.
