2D and 3D High
Mediaboy13:
Hi all!
I am good at 2 diabolos, but one thing I can never seem to get right is 2D high.
I can only ever get around 4 catches before one just drifts off in another direction and when i start doing small throws from 2D low and make them bigger and bigger to do 2D high the same thing happens.
Any ideas on how i can stop one diabolo from drifting off?
Also is 3D high easier to learn than 3D low? And should I continue trying 3D low starts or try 3D high?

2D try just standing perfectly still while throwing one over and over. Then move to 2. All about practice. Maybe find a gym and aim for a few cm's clearance of the ceiling to get some precision.
2D high and 3D high are very much the same to drive. You'll get consistantly better with time. 3D low will usually just "click" one day.
I suggest learning 3D high first because many seem uncomfortable with it and then learn to lower it to a shuffle. That way the speed you get from first doing high will give also you a few rotations in a shuffle for free giving you time to figure it out. I think which one is easier probably depends on what you put into practice ;)

Thanks heaps! :-D
I will practice some stuff today.

About the what to do first, just do as you feel. Probably you can do both, but putting much more effort on one of them, either three high or low.
I suggest you to start with whatever you want because the biggest danger in practicing 3D is getting tired/bored->give up. So motivation is an important factor.
About technique, here there are some useful comments and a link to a very good guide made by Arjan

^This is a very good tip too motivation is key.
For me I only got 3 high after about 2-3 months of solidly practicing it. I also happened to get it first in a gym where the roof was very low (so the start and throws had to be really perfect). In higher gyms my start would just be all over the place. May help if you don't have a gym with that exact height to just imagine a height and not go under/over it.
Maybe vary with some 1D and 2D if you drop to keep motivation up. Also (if you have several diabolos) it's helpful to keep a whole pile next to you. That way you can concentrate a longer time before having to run around picking stuff up. Motivationwise It also helps to end practice on a good run.
Once you start seeing solid improvement you can forget all about needing motivation...you'll just want to practice.
