Diabolo.Ca Collab 2012 Editor
« on: May 09, 2012, 09:38:36 am »
Hi all!

Although it's only May, I thought since I have been doing more editing than filming at the moment I would like to volunteer to be the editor for this years collaberation video, if thats allright with admins, moderators and other diaboloists.
I have already been planning on how I'm going to edit (music, effects etc), is anyone else volunteering? Because I would REALLY want to be apart of a big project with other diaboloists/jugglers around the world.
If I am chosen to be the editor (I really hope I am) send your clips (3-5???) to my email (badboy_simmons@hotmail.com) and add your name, country, if you have been in a previous collab video (which one) and if you want age.
I promise that if I am the editor it would be a great video to watch with a new twist.
One last thing:
Is there an actual length to a collab video (I want it to be aound 10-15 minutes) and is there a limit of people to be in one (because I want to fit everyone in)!???

Sorry for length of post and all replys welcome!
-Alex

Based on a couple of videos I watched, your music choice doesn't seem like it would be a good fit for a collaboration video. Heavy metal doesn't go over very well in diabolo videos, most people prefer some sort of electronic or laid-back rap/hip-hop.

Some of them didn't even have that much editing in them, it seemed like. Mostly just cuts from one clip to the next, except for that THUD video.

I mostly agree with everything Icebox said. But I am not friend of rejecting volunteers.
I assume that you see the difference between the videos you have already made and what the diabolo.ca pals would appreciate more. And in any case you can always ask for advice to any previous editor, I am sure they'll be glad to help you.

Diego is asking how long do the clips we send in for the collaboration video have to be.

Ok, i will be less lazy and make a new edit with good tasteful music, more effects and advanced editing techniques.
I'm pretty sure that a collab clip should be maybe 10-20 seconds long roughly (although im not sure, they could be any length  :-|), so i would say one combo per clip.

More effects, more is always better!.....

Why don't you watch the older collabs a few times and try to figure out what it is that made them so good?

Actually, what I meant to say is that a powerful edit doesn't necessarily rely on a whole bunch of spacey effect. The best edits don't overdo it, it is all about finesse and feeling for the material you have on hand, the music, the pace of the edit, how everything goes along nicely etc.

my advice from having done the collab last year is, dont think of it as a small project. it takes ages. secondly you dont need as many transitions as i used last year. also. really push people to send things in on time because the longer you wait the harder it gets. thirdly. spend a lot of time on the names. a good effects on the names can make a big difference. dont just leave it till last minute. and check the spelling of all the names a 1000000 times. (sorry eljas)

ya thanks

Well if they are too repetive then yes, otherwise no.  ;)

Yeah, it looks like a big project, although i have worked on projects alot bigger than this before, the only hard thing is time which is what makes this harder then previous stuff i've done. How did you get the clips? Did you get people to email them to you because thats what i was thinking about doing, if i got the part?

Thanks

To submit a video, upload it somewhere using something like Dropbox or Mediafire and then email a link to me at: collab2011 "at" diabolo.ca. Don't forget to include your name (or forum username if you'd prefer) and location.

Metal or especially rock can work, its not about genres, it's about how well the edit fits with the music.
