Best diabolists?
« on: September 06, 2005, 08:39:52 pm »
I was wondering for a while who do each of you consider the best diaboloists?  for what reason?  I want to seperate it into a few catageories.

1 diabolo combos:
1 diabolo in general:
Exacalibur (1 diabolo haven't seen anyone do it with two :D):
2 diabolo knots:
2 diabolo combos:
2 diabolo in general:
3 diabolo (low):
3 diabolo shuffle (how it looks synch)
"   "             "       (asynch):
3 high:
4 diabolo:

some of my opinions are

1 diabolo combos: Antonin
1 diabolo in general: Antonin/Eric
Exacalibur (1 diabolo haven't seen anyone do it with two :D): dunno
2 diabolo knots: Arjan (cause of the video for 10,000 posts)
2 diabolo combos: Makky
2 diabolo in general: prolly Makky
3 diabolo (low): hm... ryo yabe?
3 diabolo shuffle (how it looks synch): Trash
"   "             "       (asynch):baptiste
3 high: dunno
4 diabolo: Tony Frebourg

Give me some other insights onto these topics.  :D

I tried to fill it in, but simply not possible, because everyone`s style wich are so different. I`m flatterd you thinking me being the best at 2 D knots... well forget that, here are 3 names that pop in my head: Jacko, Antonin and Makky. Serious, watch their stuff good, they all have wicked idea`s.

And Vux too. He has some nice combinations with 2d knots.

I also think its pretty useless to think about who's the best diabolist... in categories or not... there just isn't such thing like the best in diabolo, it keeps changing, different ideas, styles, tricks, combinations.... I'd say shut up and juggle!

well, i dont think you can say "best" diaboloist. perhaps favorite diaboloist(s)? or diaboloists that inspire? for example, Tony might be "the best" at 4D (he has the world record), but Priam is my favorite, mainly because the first time i ever saw 4D was by Priam and in person. that's just a (true) example, i hope you understand what i mean.

The best diaboloist, is for everone another.
Therfore I will give no answer, but I like the Style of Antonin, Vux and also Tony. Antonin and Vux because of their "round" Style and Tony because he connects the diabolo with acrobatics in a way which is unique.

excalibur is Trespace from switzerland, the husband and wife team who have been to EJC. I'm pretty sure they lead the world in this area, I hear they can do 3 between themselves (not sure, I heard from Molly Saudek, an ex Smirko who coached wire this year and is a very very well known wire dancer in Europe and lives down the street from them that "they can do two, I think maybe 3")

I think I've got a video of them, very short but the first excalibur video I downloaded where they were doing moves and passing of diabolos between them.  Very nifty.

After almost a year and a half, the famous diaboloists are changing.  It's no longer the MFP this MFP that.  It seems like such a long time ago that diabology came out.  I was just thinking how the times changing change who's the best in each category so I decided to refill out this chart.

1 diabolo combos: Diabolumberto, Antonin (Still...)

1 diabolo in general: Antonin

Exacalibur: Tr'espace, Tempei, M4U

2 diabolo combos: Busk

2 diabolo in general:  Busk

3 diabolo (low) asynch: Jacob Sharpe  (Honorable mentions: Priam, William, Zack, Tahia)

3 diabolo (low) synch: Ryo Yabe (seems like he's the only mainly synch person left cause like Tahia, Zack and other former synch people have all converted to asynch =/)

3 high: JiBe, Jacob Sharpe

4 diabolo: Tony (still... maybe Priam's catching up?  he did do a 4 high qualify live...)

Passing: Jacob and Nate Sharpe

There's alot of changes and new inspirational players.  The level of diabolo has increased so much in a year.  Excalibur genocides and 3 low are now somewhat common place.  I wonder what diaboloists 5 years from now will be able to do?

Yea I have but I think that trespace, tempei, and M4U surpass him in their diabolo skills.  Mainly his diabolo can just stay spinning for a freaking long time.  His tricks aren't that clean though.  He has some amazing tricks like his excalibur guillotine.  I just think he isn't as good as the others.

For me Jacob sharpes(what I can see in his videos) is the best diabolist for me because he is a very good alrounder and does the nice passing stuff with nate.He is very solid in much stuff he does(how you can see in his performances) and does nice 3high 3low and vertax stuff!!!
My absolute favorite!!!
I like antonin, busk diabolumberto and zack because of their creativity!
I like william because he does very hard stuff solid!
I hate tony because of his 4 high ::)

I know i will see them in Paris, in october-november, but i wish i could find some videos of us before... They were in Toulouse at the annual covention this year, the only year i chose to have a student exchange in Montreal...

Does anybody know a working link, or can send me a video extract ?

Post your favorite/best diaboloist you think, and why. I'll start.

Pranay or Ilias.
Pranay is amazing for his integrals, his 3d work, his neck combos, and general exploration of stick releases in diabolo.

Ilias has a smooth style, with great 2d, 3d, and behind the back work. His style is smooth and explorative, with lots of great combos. He is also impressive for his smooth vertax style.

The only video of Maki's FEDC routines that I could find that is still live is his FEDC02 freestyle at http://www.geocities.jp/spinabolo/video.htm.

There are also videos for his routines from FEDC01 and 03 kicking about somewhere, but I can't find them online.

Also watch the Team D.I.A. videos.
Sadly the team no longer seems to be active and are not hosting videos on their site, but is on YouTube. There is also another clip video called "dia_clip.avi". A quick Google search brought up this page which seems to be mirroring both videos.

He also had two "Trick of the Week" videos at Diabolumberto's Site:
http://trickoftheweek.free.fr/video/2004/9/makky1.mpg
http://trickoftheweek.free.fr/video/2004/9/makky2.mpg

For the completists, Maki also made a brief appearance in a video of the 2003 Japan National Diabolo Contest. It also features some nice creative stuff by yo-yo hero Rei Iwakura and some solid loop from Yukki. I can't find a mirror at the moment, but I'll try to put one up tomorrow, unless anyone involved in the video objects.

I can't decide who my favourite player is anymore, so many people have really nice styles and mind blowing tricks. Plus with edited videos, it's sometimes hard to see who has consistent control, and who flukes a trick and captures it on film.

Those two should get off their butts and make a movie.

Garner will do anything to impress - "anything" - gotta give him points there ;)

As for Langerz videos, check out juggling tv for Carnage, and search up Devil's Diablo for his first one (not sure if that one is streaming anywhere).

But his videos get an F because the music made me die on the inside.

Problem is, that kinda trick doesnt look that amazing when its not being done incredibly fast paced.
