Title: Loop diabolo tricks (no vertax please!)
Post by: dimensions on November 11, 2012, 08:48:10 PM
I watched saskas votw and really really REALLY liked it so...

I had a go at this "mysterious" version of diabolo...
I was absolutely terrible (or if I can say so "absolutely CRAP)

So I stopped it and went back to using my sticks

I then saw another video and realised it was called "loop diabolo" (I didn't read the description of Saskas video)
I then had another go...

And I finally understood the basics and could do even more "basic tricks"

I then saw someone's vertax video (with sticks!) and saw they used the fingers to get in to the vertax (I know use the same entrance for loop AND sticks

Know as I sometimes get bored with my diabolo (I can't do 2 diabolos very well and don't have the right gear, I'm asking for taiabolo s for Xmas, so that's why I have to make do with just the one "triple bearing diabolo,") I want to know some more "loop diabolo tricks"

So could you PLEEEEEESE tell me some difficult loop diabolo tricks (and how to do them of course!)
P.s could the tricks preferably be from saskas video, and of course if saskas on the forum I will love to here from him!

In case you haven't seen it here is saskas votw loop diabolo sequence here it is!

    Hey dimensions!

I haven't done loop in a long time now, so I'd have to get back to it if I wanted to teach anything.
I'll let you hear when/if I get some sort of loop tutorial on the internet. Keep practicing!

-Saska

Hey dimensions,

Here's a link to the wonderful Yukki, sadly no longer with us.  Hope it inspires you to stick with the (much-neglected) loop!  Cheers, Donald

Since beeing out of practice loop is all I've done so (at the expense of normal play :() do know a few more advanced combos. Should make a vid but never get around to it and Saska probably schools me anyway so...

One thing you can search for yourself right off the bat is a yoyotrick called "ninja vanish".

Once you understand the motion of this trick...just learn it in loop (gets you immediately into a heart) with both hands. Then from there you can play around with that by either jumping it through two sets of loop (if done on the left by a rightie) to get an eiffel after the crosshanded two loops or duicide it to crossed hands (langerz does this in an old vid) and then move into more combos from there.

Also slacks from stopovers are essentially the same as yoyo. You stopover on the front string by pinching the loop between thumb and forefinger then the slack follows when you whip it around.

Can be done inverse too. If you do it inverse it will make you catch it crosshanded. Then when you jump it back you let go of the pinch and you'll be on top of both sets of string. From there you can do a backhandwhip (for righthanded first stopover on left-inverse slack-crosshanded-move back over the top to two open strings-normal stopover on the left on top of both strings-go out of the stopover- let go of left hand and swing your arm around for a whip). Can then be extended by suiciding the loop, catching one-handed on the left hand you cand then go into something similar to "trapeze and his brother" (I think the yoyo trick is called this), go out of both stopovers back to normal loopplay.

Note that all of the above would require a loop maybe half or just 1/3 the size of Yukkis. I measure by stretching my arms as wide as I can then tie a fishermans knot. Use a lighter to melt the ends and make the knot a bit smaller/smoother.

Edit: forgot...also absolutely essential for extended loopplay is a pair of gloves just like the ones Saska uses. Just find some that are very thin in a good material and cut off the top of the fingers. Leave the forefinger on the right a bit longer (halfway up your second knuckle) to quickly move between when you want speed and when you want grip.

Also for normal accelration (I do it this way but dunno if Saska does so if you don't learn it this way longer sleeved forefinger may not apply) for me it helps to turn the right hand palm up and left hand palm down. That way you get immediate grip with everything on the right hand with the benefit that it's way easier to control corrections on the inside of your hand. The left you'll just have to get used to turning quickly every time.

And another thing to add. You can make accelrations a lot less boring by simply crossing/uncrossing your hands while keeping the looping going.

^Wall of text sorry...I'm home with the flu :P

man that video, the patterns he makes from 30-1.00 are insane

want to try it now :) doesn't the knot mess things up though when doing orbit acceleration?
