Title: 3 High siteswap question 151515
Post by: Richard on January 13, 2015, 11:21:49 AM
Hey guys,

Playing around with the DSS siteswap simulator and trying to see how I can enter into a 151515 siteswap with 3 high.

http://www.artofdiabolo.com/dsss/dsss.php (http://www.artofdiabolo.com/dsss/dsss.php)

Any ideas?

Rich

I would say when you have the normal pattern, just throw one Diabolo higher and the next even higher than the Diabolo before, and then just do the 151515 pattern. I can't do 3 high though  :-D

It's just a 4 but you can also do 52 if you want to be fancier

The exit can be 2 or 41

For example 333345151413333

For some reason I have learned to use 51 instead of 15, which technically, if the pattern is infinite, which it is, would not matter. But I don't know a or the reason why I have this preference. Anyone could explain this better?

I would guess that because it is more natural to start with 3451 than with 3415, because it is more natural to throw three diabolos a little bit higher in a row... just a guess

Wis, your point kind of makes sense to me, and at the same time is incorrect since 3415 is simply invalid, no matter what.
This is all theoretical logic, logics in notation. The real world application does not matter, it's not about what might "feel natural". Personally, doing diabolo for me has very little room for feelings, but that is another topic that I am interested in, not discussed here.

My 2 cents is about it being "natural" to write 51 instead of 15 is that fact that no matter how many repetitions the pattern has, it always must start with a 5 if I'm correct. 4 [51] 41 is no different as 4515151515141 except the amount of cycles is not specified, and the 51 is in between brackets to indicate it's exited state, a term in siteswap that basically means any pattern that needs some transitional throws from a normal state pattern to an exited state. But this does not explain the order, except it seems very logical in my eyes. Anyone?

Fast typing = stupid mistakes :) I better double check next time
Your reasoning makes sense in my eyes

Thanks guys,

This makes sense and I've been practicing the 3334515 it but it doesn't work on the art of diabolo simulator. Maybe they don't compute entries or exits?

That is why I put the example so you could copy paste. The error in you sequence is you forgot to exit with 41 as Ronnie said.

Yes, DSSS does not compute/render/suggest entrance's or exit's or transitions. You have to do it all yourself. But there is this though: http://www.artofdiabolo.com/siteswaps_liste.php (http://www.artofdiabolo.com/siteswaps_liste.php)  And there are other lists online, at jongle.net for example.
