Hey y'all,
I just finished the Diabolo.ca Collaboration video project! Thanks to all you collabers out there, I really appreciate the effort, without you there was no video (doh). Also, a lot of thanks to my friend Pieter (g0t) which helped me with the editing, he had some great input. It was a great succes, with a total of 34 collabers I used the footage from for the final video and 8 minutes worth of superduperawesomeness (including credits though :P).
Anyway, enough talking, here it is... Let me know what you think!

Kewl video up there! Good job to everyone!
-
Nice video. Beautiful stuff you guys have sent in!
I was happy to be priviledged to edit this kind of movie (along with Martijn ofcourse).
-
Great stuff! I've not been able to watch it properly with sound yet but liked lots of the bits I have seen. Still giggling at John's bit on the hill!
-

that was a fantastic video, you really done diabolo.ca pround every one and thankyou to Martijn for the great editing. there was a lot of great trricks in there, congrats to niels for armstall sun,i also have done this and filmed it at crawley convention but you know what they say great minds think alike. The diabolo box, the throw around the curved roof made me smile, john sliding up the hill, and sean_ 1d twisting gring brought i big smile to my face. a TOP video :)
edit: i also missed out nevs grind on the shoe and bounce off the washing line they also were highlights for me
-
Thanks for the comments so far guys, I had a lot of fun editing it. And don't forget Pieter, thanks to his help the video got that extra bit of editing, which made it special in my opinion. Thanks mate! It was a great experience :)
-
As expected an awesome job martijn and gOt. Alot of that stuff was amazingly creative, I was dissapointed at some backgrounds though, would've thought people would have made an effort to step out of the gym atleast. But everything diabolo in there was fantastic. And you just keep delivering martijn!
Great!
-
like 12 responses in under 2 hours, must be some sorta record.
I'm downloading now I CAN'T WAIT ^^

Amazing video :D gonna go watch it again...
-
Sweet job Tijn as expected ( & anyone that helped ) - my personal highlights were :-
0:40 - boxes - sweet thinking
0:55 - The sheer elation on the players face
2:50 - Fan sliding up the hill - that would be impressive even if it wasnt backwards
2.58 - ufo grinds - good use of the spinabolo strengths (& skill of cousre)
3:32 - Contact stuff on the bench - sweet
3:48 - WOW intersting ideas there - exit?
4:03 - Still sweet - shame we already saw it
4:32 - Whip web suicides - a lot of experimenting to do
5:14 - vertax grind / pass - outstanding
5:30 - LOVE that start -so simple
5:55 - Great starrt Zack
6:05 - Not much space for that - nice work
6:45 - My personal favorite - Thanks
-
Thanks Martijn! Thanks everyone! What a wonderful group piece - it almost brings tears to my eyes. ;)
It's been nice to see that since the colloboration deadline passed, the video of the week submissions have come back in full force. I will start those up again shortly... there's some nice stuff in store.
Might be a good time to say thanks to all of you for making this forum a great place to be. Thanks to the moderators, donators, and members alike!
Cheers,
Sean
-
Thanks Tijn and gOt. lovely video, and thanks everyone who submitted. Great video.
argh so many sweet things and a variety of styles, nice pacy editing and music, lovely
Great to see Sean on film again, its been a while.
@mattias, Sorry, when I asked Antonin if I could video him for a diabolo.ca video and he agreed, I thought I'd better not push my luck and ask him to go outside in the rain :P
-
Very, very awesome to watch. Quite happy with how this turned out. Excellent diaboloing by all.
Will be watching this one many times.

Damnit, I messed up! I missed Marc's name when typing all the names from my textfile into my editing program (Sony Vegas). That is so stupid of me! Go ahead, slap me in my face... I'm really sorry Marc...
(just to be sure, Marc is in the video at 3:02 - 3:10)
-
woot! my internet video debut! sweet! awesome job on the editing tijn, again sorry my clip was such crappy quality, but im glad to see in there anyway. Awesome job to everyone else, always pumped to see new creative tricks! Its also nice to see all the different styles that people have too. Kudos to everyone!

Sweeeet. This is high wuality stuff. I really loved the wall-thing in the tunnel

Superb. Absolutely superb. I sometimes get people asking me about diabolo when I'm doing it and I tell them there are things that I can only dream of doing. If I can figure out how to put tjis puppy on my ipod, I can tell which one I'll be showing em.
Only one tiny thing. Sometimes it's hard to see the sticks in the suicide moves. It does, however, look even madder.
Looks like I'm off out to practice again then
Pete
-
Hey everyone. I'm downloading it now and I'm more excited than a 3 year old at a birthday party. I was just thinking about this, Maybe we could make this collaboration video like an anual or bi-anual (etc.) thing?
Just a thought..
Will.
-
Wow, what a great video!
The only thing i didn't like was the third song (BLUR) , it's a great song, but i just thought it didn't fit really wel after the two first song.
Anyway, really nice stuff and the editing was really good too!
I'll be watching it a couple of times more!
Raphaël
-
alright, you took the credits down from 1/4 the video to 1/8.... :P
ok, all jokes about Martijn's editing aside, great video fellas. definitely a keeper, one to watch in the future.
-
congratulation for this video !! Lot of tricks and ideas !
I hope, it's not the last collaboration video
-
@mattias, Sorry, when I asked Antonin if I could video him for a diabolo.ca video and he agreed, I thought I'd better not push my luck and ask him to go outside in the rain :P
Oh, not at all. Cool that you got him to participate. And that was not the only clip, but I am being a bitch here, it was such a sweet video and great work from everyone so I have no business complaining about anything. Again, great work everyone!
-
I hope, it's not the last collaboration video
I suggested doing one again if you look up and read my post..
Maybe we could make this collaboration video like an anual or bi-anual (etc.) thing?
-
LOL, the topic of the first version is not even burried and people are talking about a second version. You spoiled diabolists!
I`m sure, one day in 2007 there will be another collab vid.
-
I believe that the energy for projects like this is best used by leaving some time before the next one. If it becomes more frequent, it becomes less special. I'm looking forward to another one, but I'd actually prefer a longer wait.
-
waha! yes lads! there's even some loop marvelous. more more more more more. i hate waiting. that vertex gyro flop pass thing thats my highlight i think............ not sure though it's tough.... everso tough
-
If I can figure out how to put tjis puppy on my ipod, I can tell which one I'll be showing em.
I can make a mp4 version if you'd like? I just don't know how big it should be to fit on an iPod (size and bitrate). If you can tell me this, I'd be happy to convert it, while I still have the 14 Gb uncompressed avi file :P
alright, you took the credits down from 1/4 the video to 1/8....
Well yeah, I agree with you on the fact that credits for an online video have to be very short, but I still want to have it readable! Besides, there are much worser videos when it comes to the credits length. (Arjan even wanted to use the whole Coldplay song in BT - that's 2:20 minutes! crazy boy..)
About a 2nd D.ca collaboration video... ofcourse it will happen, but not very soon. When the time is there, you'll notice  It is quite some work to set it all up, and I'd be happy to do it again in the future, but you don't want to have a collab vid every month. Great to see you're all so excited though :)
-
...
3:32 - Contact stuff on the bench - sweet
3:38 - WOW intersting ideas there - exit?
...
Which clip do you mean with that Nev? Do you the 2nd part of Arjan's routine?
Oops - I meant 3:48 - Nicks 2 string web - sorry now corrected by edit
-
really nice tricks & editing, one of my favorites this year
-
I thinks that video is the highlight of this forum so far. Absolutely awesome! Another one next year would be a good idea. Thanks to everyone one who helped in the making of that video. Especialy Tijn even if he did make a few mistakes the editing was nearly flawless.
Edit:I've just watched the credits. Is JiBe still diaboloing since he featured in the vid or was it just a one off?
-
I have been looking forward to the Collaboration video since I first heard of it, and it's even better then I thought it would be. It's so cool to be part of a project like this, with everybody being satisfied about the result and all :).
Martijn & g0t: You have done a great job, I am looking forward to the next video of you guys.
Btw, I think another collab. vid should not be made very soon either..
I am going to see the video once again..
-
Wow all around!
I think my favorite was the Vertax Clothesline! i had to watch it twice to believe it.
-
Is JiBe still diaboloing since he featured in the vid or was it just a one off?
Well JiBe stopped playing diabolo for like 1 or 2 years, but when he found out about the collab video, he emailed me his clip and told me that his latest practice session got him motivated to play a bit more. So who knows...
-
Great video, its amazing how you got so many people to participate. I think waiting to make the next colaboration video is a good idea, gives me some time to practice and hopefully be able to contribute to the next effort.
-
Wow! Great work everybody. Some really nice footage in there. It also looks like everyone is having fun, too. Always a good thing in videos. Good job, Martijn. Thank you.
3:48 - WOW interesting ideas there - exit?
This trick is done in the same way as a regular Cat's Cradle, one stick over the other and hook the string into a cradle, but using the two inside sticks. It exits by just dropping the cradle from the sticks and you end up back with an unwrapped diabolo and a pair of sticks in each hand.
I've got some more ideas for this style (mostly inspired by Assisted House for any 3A yo-yo buffs out there), but I haven't really devoted that much (any) time to developing them further. Maybe I'll have one figured out in time for next year's video.
Nick.

yeah, i know that you gotta get everyone's name in there--and a lot of people want to know the songs. i have different ideas for that sort of thing but hey...that's what makes videos great, the fact that they're different. i'm just joking, i didn't mean anything bad by it :p
by the way, i didn't mention---i like the effects at the beginning (which you seemed to have forgotten about after that :P), it reminds me of my Bjork video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5aJ3LxkHpU)...i'm just starting to learn about/get into those type of effects.
-
I know you're just kidding, so am I :)
i like the effects at the beginning (which you seemed to have forgotten about after that)
Yeah, that mostly came from Pieter's input, at some point in the editing he had to go home, I finished the editing on my own, so less video FX was the result :P Besides, I don't think I could have used a lot more in the 2nd and 3rd song. Did you like the creepy FX?
-

I always thought it was a shame that he stopped (especialy his skill level was so high.) Maybe he could fill us in on what he is up to?
For me the highlight of the video was the clothesline thing that Nev did. Very creative. :D
-
Did you like the creepy FX?
i did, it created a good mood. i was thinking of adding more of that to a video, but my last video didn't have anything where you'd add such a thing...
perhaps i will make a "dark" video sometime...
-
Oh excellenté! I saw the post on Rec.Juggling (I go there first) and saw one post, I just knew there'd be a ton over here.
Great work Tijn and Pieter on the editing, you did marvellous work with those dozens of clips. I was waiting for it, checking every now and again to see perhaps it was finished. It's a great video and people definitely pulled out the stops. The theme of experimentation was definitely visible (the vertax into the clothesline, the roll around the subway tunnel?) All great stuff.
I had hoped to film something a bit more clever but all is well on foresight. I agree that the energy of this first collaboration was definitely a driver into such great footage. Let's give it a while till the next and just bask in the glory of this production.
Good job Diabolo.ca!

Martjin summed it up pretty well. As always with EJC's, I tend to remove the dust from my diabs and do the usual passing and some 3 high. This year was no exception, and when coming back home, I found a nice place to practice outside (the one in the vid actually). So we'll see if I keep at it and make a few progress :-)
Thanks for caring
Nice video, a few must see. The diabolo running in the tunnel stands out in my mind after the first watch.

You didn`t even bring your diabolos :P
Sorry, couldn`t resist the easy joke.

I diabolo one year now, and I am in it (3:24-3:30), so don't worry about that, you can learn a lot in one year :).
* there are even people who do 3D after 9 months...
-
my 2 cent's... GREAT VIDEO!!!!!
well worth the 3 AND A HALF HOURS to down load!
but can i ask why i wasn't in it martjin?.... :(
and on the topic for a future Colab: My suggestion is to do it at the end of next year(and the year after), so it could be some-what based on the idea of how far everyone has come since the last one, and how many new tricks and ideas have emerged over each year... etc...
anyways WELL DONE EVERYONE!!!!
-
Great vid, sadly i had no trick ideas but if theres one nest year ill definatly join in.
-
but can i ask why i wasn't in it martjin?
I've emailed you about that.
My suggestion is to do it at the end of next year(and the year after), so it could be some-what based on the idea of how far everyone has come since the last one
You forget that the "The best of Circusplanet" video, where I'm involved with the filming and editing, comes out each year in december (after BT, the collab and my tut, that's what I'm focussing on right now). Besides, if you want to compare the 2nd collaboration video with this one, you simply have to do it exactly one year later. I'm not going to say when it'll happen again, it's just too early.
-
great vid! nothing more to say but thank you :D
-
I'd like to belatedly add 4:32 to my highlights list - Norbi's whip web suicude stuff - there is a LOT of experimenting to be done with this idea - thanks
-
Nice video! there was amazin ideas in it, and it gave me more inspiration.
-
I'd like to belatedly add 4:32 to my highlights list - Norbi's whip web suicude stuff - there is a LOT of experimenting to be done with this idea - thanks
indeed, still struggling with it though!
Also i cant find the Jongle.net collab vid anywhere. Does ay one know the link.
Cheers

After a "jongle.net and video" search, I found the d.ca thread  http://www.diabolo.ca/forum/index.php?topic=1760
-
Norbi's whip web suicude stuff - there is a LOT of experimenting to be done with this idea
oh yes...... hehehehe theres lots and lots of things to play with. (i'm unsure how to put this) try the same whip but frontstyle. take the two strings rather than one (you should be crossarmed) then find the web...... its a beut
-
Have a look at this routine: http://diabolo.ca/forum/index.php?topic=566
At some point in the 1d section, he does a underwhip, then immediately goes into that web thing. I tried it, it's not so hard. Perhaps it'll inspire some of you :)
-
At some point in the 1d section, he does a underwhip, then immediately goes into that web thing
Yeah I'd already figured out its just an underwhip with stick and cross your arms - It was more the suicides within webs that interested me with Norbi's (nicer way of getting to crossed arms) - adding a few infinate or palm slap suicides in the web is a nice addition. The web fariu does just before it was interesting though - thanks for the link.
try the same whip but frontstyle
not sure what whip you mean here? - frontstyle? - yoyo term perhaps?
Got some interesting webs trying though :)
-

Yo-yo via skateboarding. For yo-yo frontstyle = stuff happening in a straight line in front of you, as opposed to sidestyle, where stuff happens in a line across your body.
The Void
.................
Goofier than a planetessimal
-
yeah sorry. yoyo fronstlye as in both sticks pointing towards each other, the whip should come from the stick that is pointing towards yourself, through the gap between your body and your arm. underwhip not overwhip
hopefully thats alot clearer (i'm awfull at explaining stuff)
but seriously nev is right this could be sessioned months
-
Thanks that clears up the frontsyle - I still have a number of different web possibilities here so I still have a few questions for you Langerz but I'll PM you so as not to clog up this thread off topic.
-
It was more the suicides within webs that interested me with Norbi's (nicer way of getting to crossed arms)
Ah yeah, that's a nice entry indeed.
Watching a few of the japanese videos I have (only about 12 or so :() really interested me in their style of playing again. It's awesome!
-
Great :D I hope you'll make such a video again, maybe I'll send something too, then...
-
I'd like to belatedly add 4:32 to my highlights list - Norbi's whip web suicude stuff - there is a LOT of experimenting to be done with this idea - thanks
This trick has been around for a while. I learned it back in November of last year after it appeared in one of the videos from the Victoria Harbour Yo-Yo Competition in Hong Kong. The videos are found in this thread:
http://diabolo.ca/forum/index.php?topic=1176&highlight=hong+kong
The routine it features in is the 1st place entry from Chan Tin Yan at 2.02. The suicide catch is very sketchy, but it is basically the same trick.
Here is the direct link to the video:

Well i knew i would be annoyed if didn't get a clip in... and i am. COngrats to everyone, thats the best vid this summer for me. The diab in the tunnel thing was clever. I had thought of it before but never got round to trying it.
The great thing about seeing a video like this is that you see so many different styles all in one video.
Keep up the good work people.
-
First time I've looked at this forum in a long while + what did I find?... a mindblowingly original and inspiring diabolo vid! Well done for creating such an inspiring vid.
-
Wow, that is an awesome collaboration video! THere is so much variation of tricks in there, all very creative by the way. Everyone did a great job on this, and Martijn and the other editors did a pretty great job on the editing of it. Well, until next years...not to rush or anything. 8)
-
i LOVED that video! very good editing! :D at the begininning i was scared that it would came out a video like that of best of circusplanet..(i did't like it so much..i'm sorry :? ) but instead it's a very relaxing video, full of news ideas!
i'm really sorry because i didn't partecipate, but i returned yesterday from my holidays...and i haven't nothing special to film...
-
Sorry for the bump, but I was bored and way too drunk to diab so I thought (out of pointless interest) I'd analize the differant daibolo's used in the making of this vid to get a general concensous on what people are using.
My findings are (not counting background diabs or ones that have been used by the owner in a previous trick)
Circus 33
Finesse 20
Yoho superspin 3
Jazz 2
Spinabolo 1
Yoho diabig 1
Unkown 1 - the Vetax clip with the JCB background near the end (guessing circus)
Interstingly the first finesse does not appear until 2:10 (after 17 circi had already appeared)
It supprises me that there were not more bearing diabolos given the experimental theme (only me & Tijn + John sharing Tijn's)
Appologies if this is totally useless information
-
Nice analysis Nev. Circus ftw! :P Perhaps it's just that not a lot of people own a bearing diabolo, and buying one just for the video is a bit silly.
What do you mean with unknown 1? at what time is that?
-
6:10 - im thinking its another circus but I cant tell for sure.
& I just imagined more people would have a ratchet or two - I guess not
-
Yeah, probably a Circus. He's on the forum I believe, so he must be able to tell us.
-
interesting analysis, Nev. i've never been able to switch back to my Circuses after going over to the Finesse side. it does seem like the Circus is the more popular choice...
now what i'm wondering is, if there was a clip with multiple diabolos, did you count the number of diabolos, or just note that what type they had?
obviously it's unfair to see a 3D clip with Circuses and count 3, then a 1D clip with Finesses and count 1.
-
ahhhhhhh drunken posting, it should be mandatory
I still think finesse has the majority on the continent [from what I saw], throw the mad French seem to be gradually swapping over. I think in the uk Circi have come back strong after most people bought a set of finesse post diabology, maybe because their a bit more forgiving as we all scramble to learn all these new tricks and three D.
maybe because we aren’t bothered that they don’t look pretty as we are less performance minded?
and maybe number three, it's all the axel kits that have come out allowing everybody to get the setup that suits them.
Basically yay circus, mind you their are some people who just buy everything aye nev
ps after trying diabigs I rekon they will deservedly increase in popularity especially if they get a uk or European supplier. physiology behind diabolo choice anybody? Peer pressure?, body image? :D
-
I try to mix and match so as not to offend any particular diabolo bearing country
-
Sorry for the bump, but I just wanted to let you guys know that the video had over 5200 hits by now! And it's the most viewed video at my Youtube account with 1220 views (and counting!) :D
-
How many of those views are by you Tijn ;) hehe. It is like the sickest diabolo video that I've seen though. However I think it needs some more 3 diabolo stuff. I really love motivation for 3 hehe...
-
Great Job. It is a really beautifull video. Nice work and a good quality. There are very good ideas and lots of people.
Nothing more to say that "pleasure for eyes"...
