Title: What trick are you most proud of?
Post by: looby on November 03, 2006, 01:43:03 PM
I appreciate some of you will have a few under your belt but what trick really made you think 'after all the effort, it feels so good to finally pull it'.

For me it has to be the double anti-suicide which I've pulled only twice since yesterday. After about 6 months of going back to it every now and then I finally managed to land it with the vortex out. It was chuffing brilliant, felt like how Tony Hawk would have when he pulled the 900 for the first time (I can appreciate the diabolo skill isnt up there with some of you guys though ;)  It's also the feeling of knowing how much practice on other tricks/techniques went into making that trick, such as the vortex and simply catching the handstick.

The one-handed round the leg was another proud moment as it was the first trick I thought would actually impress people therefore giving me the motivation to carry on learning.

Between the legs sun is one of my favorites. When I was learning it I kept smacking myself, but now it's a very slick trick.

Infinite Suicide. It´s been my dream from Day 1. I finally nailed it this summer.  :D

I also like my J and C-whips.  :-*

Ever since I saw Antonin do a 1d lifting mini-genocide on Diabology, it became one of the reasons I wanted to get better at diabolo. It's my favorite trick that I can do (right now).

Otherwise, a slowicide to stick kick to infinite suicide is my second favorite.

Let me think...Unwrapped infinite suicide?
Title: Re: What trick are you most proud of?
Post by: martijn on November 03, 2006, 06:23:18 PM
One of them has to be the excalibur genocide. I had been trying and trying it every once in a while for like 1.5 years! Then, it finally clicked, learned variations, and made a tutorial :D

There are probably some others, but that's the one that I thought of first.

lol fredo! :P

I think mine changes every time I learn or make something new. So I guess lately it would be my new version of my Berkeley performance combo...or my vortex combo, long vortex-->anti-suicide-->long vortex-->short vortex to short vortex-->arm stall.

But the next time something comes up it will definitely change...

PS. look for those two things in the next video ;)

Probably frontwrap-backwrap double sprinkler with double duicide exit (Jako's trick), I have lost it now though bit I am going to start working on it again.

42* because it was my dream trick since I started doing 2 diabolos.  I finally got it once and I was excited for the next few days.

The 2 diabolo shuffle.  Was such a nice feeling when I finally got it going.  Well, probably just being able to get it spinning really fast was a nice feeling.  Perhaps infinite suicides is up there somewhere.

Vertax genocide and 3D are still being worked on, for bloody ages.

I'm not really proud of any of my tricks as i dont think any are original or very hard.
But My happiest time learning a trick was probably when i first started and learnt elevator. It was so kool! lol

unwrapped inf suicides > 180s > genocide

but i can't do it anymore so i'll just say whip catch > duicide.  ;D

hmm. hard choice. I'm going to have to say vertax genocide, as its the trick ive spent the longest amount of time on.

Out of all the tricks I've ever learnt, pulling off a vertax genocide for the first time was the most satisfying.

I do have to thank Martijn for his tutorial, it's the final left hand unwrap that sorted it.

I'm a lucky guy!!!I've never practiced vertex genocides but after watching martijns tutorial and 3 days of practice i got it.And it felt very good because before I sought i will never get it.
Thanks Martijn!!!
And my first 3 diabolo shuffle and infinite unwrapped suicide 360 made me proud to.And as i created that tomicide genocide trick which martijn put in the TOTW too.

Haha I really know how you feel! I had the same with a sun behind the back between the legs... If it goes wrong that way it could be painful. I still have a scar on my belly from my first practise session this summer :(

The first time I did an inf. suicide was also great! I thought I would never learn a trick like that, but then suddenly I got it! Just like minigenosides - feels great.

But if I had to choose, I would choose the rubberarm to monorail combo! Especialy the moment when the first tricks goes into the second trick feels great.

Thanks Martijn!!!

Great to hear the tutorial has been helpful :) Glad I could help.

And as i created that tomicide genocide trick which martijn put in the TOTW too.

Yeah, that's nice. I'm now working on the double version of that (Eric's integral to wrapped mini g I believe). I'm having trouble with the stick unwrapping the wrong way though... Try it!

Yes it's the same trick which Eric does. The only different is that he starts with a "backside thing".I did the double version in my freestyle video at 5:20 too.It looks very similar to the normal one and the quality is bad.Perhaps that's why some people didn't see it.

Yeah, that's his very stylish entry to the minisuicide, integral stays the same though :D

And I did notice the trick in your video, it's just that it's been a while since I've seen the video, and I only recently started messing around with the double variation :)

Hmmm, I wonder what mine would be?    ;D

of course i am most proud of tricks that i have invented by myself - and those are great moments when i see somebody ELSE do something that i think is my stuff (even and maybe even more if one does it better than me)..

but then, i realise there is maybe people out there who have invented stuff like fan, sprinkler and genocide.. that is something very else.. do you Guy know which people are originally behind those tricks.. or is that kind of basic stuff allways 100+ years old and nobody knows who has made it first time?
Title: Re: What trick are you most proud of?
Post by: William on November 05, 2006, 10:39:08 PM
Kapis, I think there was no definite inventor of those types of tricks, but many people would of probably once thought of it. Take vertax for example, I think alot of people would of once thought of getting the diabolo going vertical.
Title: Re: What trick are you most proud of?

Fan, I believe Ryo yabe claims that.
Sprinkler, Dave P
Genocide, Robert Biegler (Matt H reckons the stuff he did back 10 years ago would be up and above a lot of the suicide stuff people do these days).

Anyhow, back on topic. like Mattias I was really happy when i got double sprinkler duicide, looking back i think tricks that stood out for me were, in no particular order, full genocide, 2d shuffle, continuous backwraps, sfan exit, 2d fig 8 sun, mini coloumns, wrapped ping pong and of course 3rd base concept.

Aaah, the nostalgia!  Just reading Sean's post, chatting about Dave P and Robert doing their thing.....

Got me so misty eyed, I dug out my old dusty copy of the Manchester convention video (that's BJC number 7 for all you newbies out there, 1994!)  Was fun to watch all those Renegades flying around, Dave P doing 2-in-one-hand to finger curl back to 2-in-one-hand, a brief bit of Robert doing some of his great combos, and of course me and Guy looking impossibly young....

Anyway, back on topic, can't honestly say I'm "proud" of any particular trick, but continuous 2 diabolo suicides still puts a smile on my face.  Something about the way that all that stuff is flying around and around without spraying  all over the place is still strangely hypnotic, even after all these years.

Cheers,
Donald

The double frontwrap sprinkler suicide pass with two diabolos and/or back to back 2 diabolo excalibur passing, both of which I think are very hard technically but extremely visually pleasing to both lay audiences and to diabolo savvy ones.

WHip catch genocide...
i remember this happened almost by accident, i sucessfully completed a whip catch went to throw a sun to the right, dropped one of the sticks and ended swinging it full circle while the daibolo was still rising. Well, well, well, this is very interesting, i thought, it took me ages to learn, but i eventually got it, and named it the 'Selective translocated Herbicide'
Oh if anyone ever invents any new suicides, the world of golf course greenkeeping has many names...
Fungicide, herbicide, pesticide, vermicide rodentcide...
I also came across this word the other day
'infanticide' so if anyone can come up with a dark enough trick?
Or we could just rename mini genocides, cause infants, like those tricks are smaller..

Ehm...the latest I´ve learned? No, I think it´s 3D shuffle to shower like Ryo does it (lift with left hand) and high to low. I don´t know why, but the rythm in the hands just feels really nice when the diabolos starts going faster and slower. A perfect pirouette or 42 also feels nice. Or a double whip-duicide with a priouette, or an unwrapped inf suicide pirou, or...it´s pretty much impossible to pick just one ;D

This sprinkler combo i saw on a video of jibe and he wraps it left and then unwraps it and swings it to the right and wraps it right. And fans are super, my latest trick is a 180 fan. But i only landed it once, the turning part is going fairly good though.
For some reason i don't have any good 1D tricks... ???

I´ve given it some more thought and the trick I´m most proud of (at the moment atleast) is 3D shuffle doing a split. It´s not the most difficult trick, but it took a long time to learn doing both splits and three separately (together though not so much ;)). Also, it´s a trick both advanced diabolists and non-jugglers seem to like.

Is this a difficult trick (it sounds cool 8))?

I think it's a difficult, simply because you have to know which way to send your string, and it's a bit of a risky move (well for me at least). Haven't quite nailed it, but I'm making progress. Antonin does it a lot in "Of Baguettes and Diabolos" video with Eric in Diabology
