Title: Are You Alone With Diaboloing
Post by: tRPz* on March 04, 2007, 04:50:29 PM
Are you the only one out of your mates that does diabolo and has no one to ither play with or to help and teach?

Post a coment on how they could get help without having to watch Vid's on websites.

That is difficult without the internet. There is a similar thread to this one on the link below:

I mean, its like he is asking a question on someone elses behalf, trying to get his 'post count' up or somthing. Or is that just me? ???

To be honest  I think that some people are worrying about the forum rules too much. Let a mod decide if a post is within the forum rules or not. Afterall  part of their job is too keep the quality of posts in the forum high.

I'm not saying to not help the mods out but I believe saying 'they're just trying to get their post count up' in the middle of a thread isn't the right way about it. I think this can create unease and the person who asked the question may be uncomfortable about posting anything in the future. I think the 'report to moderator' button would have been better in this case.- At the end of the day they're going decide whether or not a post is suitable anyway.

This post isn't aimed at anyone in particular.

Oi, did you just eyeball me funny ..? ;-)

As for being alone, I think the Internet has been a great resource in helping people expand their diaboloing and experiencing it better and in more detail than before.  Whenever you bought a diabolo from a toy shop, it pretty much taught you how to get it going and throw it, perhaps a string climb.  Only by learning that there was more to it that I kept at it.  Isn't the Internet great?

Being alone can also help motivate you to practice. I don´t have anyone to play with so I´ve learnt all I know from the internet. I don´t think there´s a problem in that but if you like to be around people it might make your practicesessions less fun.

I don´t think they could get help without websites though. Maybe a little through old and crappy books ???

I have loads of people that diab with me and I always feel pressurized to keep up and learn new trick. Would be nice to be more relaxed and not competing.

i think you need to have competition, because most of the people haven't got the guts to do everything themselves and push their skills to get better and better and better ;P.

for example i'm still not able to do a excalibur genocide, but because my two diabolo mates now can do it, its something i want to accomplish, too.

I also think that competition is a way to speed up the learning process. It gives you a motive, my juggling club is even thinking of holding a tournament later this year, even though we know we are the best.

Learning 2d alone in 4 months is pretty sweet!

Try just over 2 months  8) but then came the issue of speed and corrections for the next month but pretty solid after that (also learned 2D suns before i had anyway other than the initial hover to speed the diabolos up hehe).  3 is a bitch to me at the moment but 3 full rotations after 10 months diaboloing - alone apart from when i was first learning from the fan man ginger_tom and shippy.  As for me i diabolo alone apart from a few apprentices  ;) and also i start my diabolo club after easter so hopefully more students  :P.

i ve infected a few people around me, but no one is seriously busy with expanding their skills.
I don't mind, so i m the only one in my surroundings who has skills.
So when I m performing i know that no one can beat me :)

but it would be nice if i would have some competition. Just for keeping me training..

I'm somewhat alone... I know people who do diabolo, but aren't especially avid about it, so I'm technically alone, although I do know plenty of people online :)

Feel you Cap'n! I don't know anybody who's really into diabolo but me. That was one really sucky thing about moving, cause now I'm all alone with my hobby. But I'm happy though I feel kinda special when people watch my stuff, cause they have never seen anything like it ;D

If you are living in Norway as it says in your profile then there are more diabolo players and jugglers there. i for sure know like 2-3 guys that play diabolo quite good in Norway. you should work more on making new relations and contacts but i hope since then you can manage well by yourself  ;D

I kind of have the same problem, I wish there was somebody that I knew close to here to either teach me, or compete with me, there are some people but one doesn't even have a diabolo (lol), the other 2 just diabolo because they do general juggling, and focus more or clubs, rings, and balls, so I have no real competition or teachers. >.< and I suck at using the internet as a resource...

That's cool, I've got a similar situation, but the only problem is, if you do certain awesome tricks, the audience doesn't always care that much... Like to me it seems most non-diabolists don't really care for slackwhips and eiffel towers, in fact, most of the time they seem to only care about (high) tosses/releases and multiple shuffles...
