Title: Diabolo.ca Collaboration Video 2007
Post by: Sean on October 03, 2007, 02:16:26 AM
It's finally here. 10 minutes, 48 diaboloists, and 110 mb of diaboloing goodness. Thanks to all who submitted their videos. I managed to get at least one clip of almost everyone who submitted into the video except for a couple with format issues. Otherwise, if I've missed anyone, I'm sorry.

Special thanks goes to Martijn for suggesting and helping me pick music and for offering advice from his experience last year.

Revised version:

http://diabolo.ca/video/dca_collab_07.mp4 (http://diabolo.ca/video/dca_collab_07.mp4) (110mb, mp4)

Amazing. So many new things to try to learn.

8 more days!
Included is what just might be the most revolutionary 2d trick since the sprinkler... and I haven't a clue what's going on!

Were you talking about the hyperloop fan?

That was a treat to watch. Nev's stuff steals the show for me because, well, I was there in his garden when he was busting out moves I couldn't even concieve. Although the highlight for me is the 3d anti-suicide by Zack using my fly diabs - those babies will recover from ANYTHING. Other stuff includes Chiok and Martijn's pieces and the insane arm stuff by Susannah.
Love that sprinkler suicide to mini's by sean_. Nice to see sean_ and Tom Ginger (I can't resist) return to the old wall :P

Nice to put some more faces to names as well. Nice editing by Sean and awesome inovation by everyone this year.

See you for next year's video.

Huge shout to Sean for all his hard work.

Congrats to all involved, that is one hell of a good vid - so many ideas

Loved the opening and closing tricks & Chiok's no sticks start (wondered where the sticks came from at first).  Also Sharpes vertax passing was stunningly good.

Too bad one of my clips didn't deinterlace well though :\

Sorry, I'd assume I forgot to swap the fields on that clip.
You got my name wrong!
Why I oughta . . . . .
Sorry as well, I saved your files as Tom_Ginger as in Tom (the Ginger one) and then in a moment of fatigue wrote it like that.
Were you talking about the hyperloop fan?
Yes, but that was before he had released his own video... and I realized that I had seen it before (although never done that well).

I have to say, it was FAR more work than I expected to put this together! There were approximately 180 different clips I had to work with many in different formats: with different aspect ratios, different frame sizes, different compressions, different field orders all on a new operating system with new software while moving and with no internet connection at our new home and while starting a masters degree and with sore wrists that made it hard to work on the computer!

Anyways, hopefully the result is worth it.

Maybe in a bit, I'll correct those errors and upload a permanent version.

This video was probably the best diabolo video ever made!
Thanks to sean and everybody elsewho is in the video.

I can't really say what I liked the most but after watching it first time I thought Chris garcias vertex start really impressing!

@jacob sharpe: Thank you but I think your 3d end was the best hardest and most beautiful 3d trick ever made...(I have to work on those unfeed the suns ::))

OK, another 3-4 hours of processing and there should be a revised version up for the long haul.
Tom A. and Tijn's deinterlacing are fixed.
T.G. has been switched to G.T.
Duncan and I are no longer collectively "Zack"

Loving it! Great job Sean.
Good to see some familiar faces and some new people coming up.

Much respect to Nev's crazy stuff.
Definitely. It looks like the north of England is a real hotspot for diabolo at the moment.

Good work everyone.
Nick.
P.S. In case anyone wants to see my submission without the fast-forward, try here (http://www.swbgs.com/test/Nick/nick_1d_stringrejection.mp4). The main focus of the combo was the slack at 0.18, a concept inspired by/stolen from yo-yoing called "string rejection".

Great! I'm glad people can see that combo in its entirety at regular speed! I loved it, but I was torn about how to get it to fit with the pace and sections of the music and keep the overall video as short as possible. I did feel kind of bad for having to zip through it.

I did feel kind of bad for having to zip through it.
I completely understand your reasons. In hindsight, the clip was too long for a collaboration video but unfortunately I didn't have anything else new at the time.

Whoo! Had to watch that a good three times before even thinking about a post.

I was gonna write a list of highlights but, to be honest the whole thing was so good i can't pick out individual tricks, its just so good.

Its great to see so many different styles in one vid, not like a solo video. And its great to see soo many people went. Go team .ca!

Well done to all those that sent in! And big thanks to sean for putting it together.

Nev, your tricks are just insane! I can't figure out how that stuff even works.

Really it was all good, but I especially liked Chiok's balancing and Garner's catch from a kick, it's all about the silly stuff :)

Yes, I'm seeding to 2 peers at around 65 kB/s. Alternatively, maybe a couple of you could download it straight from the site (revised version is now up) and then help seed from that file.

Only the revised version should be seeded though! The revised version is dca_collab_07.mp4 (NOT dca_collab_2007.mp4).

That was really incredible!
When I first saw that 3D antisuicide I thought it really was done, but then I was surprised to see the shuffle continue!
Sweet unfeed-feed the suns with 3-2-1, etc. and the excalibur passing stuff the Sharpes do is always fun to see :).
Wow, integrals galore in this video, especially ones that were continual!
Stick bouncing things by Matt Hall were really cool; makes me want to try.
And an abundance of cradle/eiffel tower-ish tricks, too.
2D eiffel tower, extended cradle thing, pirouetted, and dropped down back into open string, and n3mo's interesting picture move.

Of course, props to Sean for putting all those clips together and making a really sweet collaboration video!

Damn, I never realized how good Nev is. What a great video, 10 minutes flew by like nothing, but for some reason, be it the pink diabolos, the slightly fawked aspect ratio, or something, Nev's moves stood out the most to me. You need to make your own video, dude!!

Also, I'm seeding the torrent so if anyone wants to come get some, I'm on it and will be for a little while (not forever!).

Holy crap that was good! I do not really post here quite often, but you all deserved it with this collective work, a lot of great ideas in this video! We should try to do the the same thing amongst the french speaking diabolo community.
I just finished to tape my own video, and I thought it was creative, well I think I will wait a few week before releasing it now!

One question: are those pink diabolos Nev is using bearings?

I believe The Void switched over the new version on JTV, but the old version continues to stream. If you download it you get the new version. Not sure if we can switch what streams there.

The scrape is working for me on the torrent, although no one else is downloading or seeding at the moment.

Diaboloists and/like torrents dont work ;)

I really like this video, I've watched it so many times because its packed with good stuff. So nice to see what everyone has put in for it.

Thanks Sean for stepping up to the plate and putting the work into making such a great video.

I think we should be expecting a fair few videos soon, I know some people decided to film more than what they submitted to the collab and have been holding back so they didn't spoil the surprise.
Would anybody be interested in seeing something made from the footage that Duncan and I shot when we visited Nev in Manchester? ;)

(BTW I did have a cig in this video, not in the contfw/ flouncytransfer bit though.)

I think Sean deserves some big pats on the back for his time and effort he's put into this for us all.  Well worth it though, and fortunately, the quality of most of the clips was quite good which makes for a much enjoyable watch.  Plus Sean's tricks were full of skill!

I was amazed at all the integral and mini-g stuff at the start that just made me wonder about the amount of time sticks are ever actually in the hands.  Then all the crazy stuff comes out with funky starts, brilliant passing, insane tricks, arm bendiness, amusing endings and other such things.  I liked that people put a bit of "fun" in the clips by shooting a diabolo off screen or just doing keepy-ups with a diabolo.  Great quality of tricks all round guys, a superb collaboration indeed.

The names in the corners were a nice touch, and nice to see that both my clips got in despite the grainy-ness of using an actual camera.  I love seeing people work together.  Perhaps a tween project in the future...?  Did Sean visit the UK, or did Duncan go over, or what...?

Beautiful work Sean, I'll try seeding after I get the torrent.

Did Sean visit the UK, or did Duncan go over, or what...?

The footage with me and Sean was shot in Canada just before I came over here to Edinburgh, and the footage with Zack and I was shot a week or so later on sean_'s camera at the Leeds club with the deadline looming. There was quite a bit of passing that we tried to get shot but didn't bother spending enough time on.

I'm a big fan of the possiblities of diabolo passing b/w two people and this video really showed some potential that hasn't really been explored yet. There's the regular half shower 2+ passing that's been done, but the vertax passing and the feed the sun'ing is really neat to watch. Maybe some cascade patterns b/w two people has potential for some nice 3ball swaps and patterns.

I liked Sean and Duncans* ping pong pass, I'm foreseeing some interesting possibilities as more people become comfortable with antishuffle and mixing low and high.
I always had a sneaking suspicion that diabolo siteswap might have been pinned in a constraining way anyhow.

*international passing bitch ;)

I realize I'm way late but I couldn't help but say that the video, the tricks, the editing, the editor and the 47 diaboloists who are better than me all ROCKED THE MIC!

Nev and Martijn amazingly inventive and prolific.
Sharpes UNREAL!
Pranay visually stunning.
Alan A. just keeps making that combo harder and harder!
Many, many people appearing to defy gravity.

The overall effect is to make one believe that ANYTHING is possible diabolo-wise.

Sweet video, Very inspirational.
 Highlights:

Martijn - Very nice and stylish tricks.
Pranay - Looks great and loved the opening trick
Sharpes - Crazy how clean that vertax passing is O.o

Definately gonna enter something for next one.

(I said that last time  :-\)

The video is great and I think it is very different from the D.ca Collaboration Video 2006!  Nothing close to what I expected.  The tricks are beatiful and putting names along the diabolists in the video is very helpful to understand who is who in the forum. Thank you very much for this great work!

Yeah, I probably will. I have a version ready to upload. You can already stream it (or download it) from juggling.tv, right?

juggling.tv doesn't work on my computer, so I had to borrow my mom's laptop to watch the video before I ended up downloading it because it was so good...

It'd be better (quality-wise) if Sean made a nice iPod version ;)

I don't know much about the iPod video format, but apparently this video meets the current 640x480 specs.

Sorry for the bump, just wondering wether or not anyone would like to see a collab vid for outtakes. I think it would be pretty sweet to see some international diabolo "pain". Not exactly the highlight of diaboloing, but certainly the funny stuff shouldn't be completely cut out. Ah well, just a thought, any ideas?

P.S. Sorry if this is in the wrong place I'd be glad to start another topic, if anyone thinks something of the idea. :P

Btw any news on youtube(would probably have to be split)/Google Video

You can get loner than 10 minute videos if you apply for director status, I think this is easier to get than it used to be in the past, might be worth checking out.

Or put it on Google Video. You can put videos up to 30 minutes long on there.. Somebody put up the 2005 WJF balls and clubs advanced competitions.. Why didn't they put the diabolo one up :(

Try not to bump an old topic unless its something that needs to be discussed. Thanks :)
