Title: Adding Rubber to the tips of the sticks?
Post by: BlackLoveBite on July 28, 2009, 04:10:23 AM
Okay, I'm thinking on adding some sort of rubber on the tip of the stick, this way the string wont snap or wear away, does anyone know what I could use and how I could do it?

And if anyone has done this, care to enlighten me?

There's no need to add rubber if you just smooth out the end of your metal tips. Work your way to a very fine wet-dry sandpaper grit. Ideally find a buffing wheel or Dremel tool to polish the ends further. Then, don't drop your good sticks on pavement! Or if you do, expect to have to keep sanding them, which isn't a big deal.

I would think that rubber coated tips would be quite sticky when you rub the cups to make 2 or 3 diabolo corrections. Otherwise you'd need to find something that doesn't get scuffed by pavement. Good luck. ;)

Shame... Because I don't feel like doing any thing with sanding... Because I'm on my last bit of yellow sting, and I don't want it to snap, that means I can't play for a few weeks...

I was thinking on taking the tips of a pair of head phones,
Like this pair

And gluing them to the ends of the sticks...

just use nail polish and do it on the top of the stick let it dry and then you can diabolo.

Hmmm... Maybe...
And does nail polish lower the chance on the string burning?

How on Earth is your string burning?

Yeah I would quite like to know how you are burning your string?

Not burning as in fire and what not, I mean as in the string slowly being wear and teared away on the metal tips on the Carbons.

Depends. If it's smooth the string won't wear away. If it's rough the string will. So... you can either smooth out the ends with fine sandpaper or you can fill in all the rough spots with nail polish. With the nail polish I'd think it would eventually build up and make the hole too small. I suppose you could use nail polish remover. Or you could just sand them!

Hmmmm.... Once I get my hands on some sanding paper, I'll do that, as well as the nail polish thing. ^_^
thanks for the tips, but I'm still thinking on the whole rubber sort tips.

Years ago (probably 3 or 4) one of my friends Henrys sticks  were going through string every 10 minutes and he fixed it with some epoxy resin on the end of them. I'm not sure how he did it but it seemed to work very well from what I can remember.
