Title: Diabolo Lights 2009 by Sean [photographs]
Post by: Sean on January 19, 2010, 02:56:29 AM
Some photographs with Sundia light kits and Shining diabolos:
http://diabolo.ca/lights2009 (http://diabolo.ca/lights2009)  [nb]And, yes, I'll practice what I preach and archive them in the Diabolo.ca gallery.[/nb]

Shot with my Dad who was visiting in December. 3-4 second exposures, f 2.8-3.5, 14mm lens. Taken in the professional photographic studio that is my living room.[nb]Note the sarcasm.[/nb]

Bonus points if you can identify the tricks[nb]Or "moves" if you find that offensive.[/nb].[nb]Extra bonus points if you can suggest a better name for this series.[/nb]

I know what you're wondering now. Oh yes, I went there...

Wauw :D looks pretty cool! I think the 5th one is from a right to a left trapeze

Assuming I can count I would say the 5th one is a big sun? And some of the others look like different accelerations?

Very aesthetically pleasing indeed!

Can't guess the tricks though - I might have seen a feed the c-fan?

I think the L is a 3D box

#5 is a bunch of stopovers. 3 and 4 are orbit accelerations at different speeds. The rest are still unaccounted for. The tricks are not really all that exciting. I found that simple movements generally looked the best and less chaotic. There is no feed the c-fan.

The L is definitely not a 3d box! On that note I dare you to figure out what standard trick makes a B. Good luck with that. :P

Void, you're so close. Milking the spinning spherical bovine.

Would the 'D' be an elevator with a large unwrap on the exit?

for the B
is it an elevator on two wraps
unwrap once at the top
then unwrap again in the middle?

Guys, as fun as this is to see you figure out how to write the alphabet with diabolo tricks, (and this could go on forever! :) ) there were no diabolo "tricks" used in the writing of the letters. I just held the string with my hand and moved the diabolo around.

In the guess-the-tricks game I was referring to the main photographs: http://diabolo.ca/lights2009 (http://diabolo.ca/lights2009)

If someone can write Diabolo.ca using genuine diabolo tricks, I'd like to see it! Bonus points if it's done in one take.

Sean - what camera/lens are you using? This calls for an OT photog thread.
