thanks for the responses everyone! yeah, our technical skill isn't nearly as high as the best on here, but we have plenty of fun all the same.

hahaha yeah, she likes really short strings. it comes up to her hip, i think, and is somewhere at the thighs for our taller members. we have no idea how she does it, but to each her own =P

old lurker here.

anyway, we're a group of friends who met at a chinese yo-yo competition way back when, and meet up every now and again to swap tricks. i enjoy editing videos here and there, and since i'm limited to imovie, i tried to see how far i could get using simple cuts and the occasional fade.

many thanks to you all, the great community from which we've taken heavy inspiration (and/or blatantly taken tricks =P). hope you enjoy!

I'll probably be there sat with some diabolo folks from columbia. anybody else here going?

well written, and that sounds sickk.

do you happen to know if there are more flexible times for random training/play? i'm trying to find an internship in taiwan this summer, and if i do, it would certainly be awesome to pick up some diabolo as well =P

without this forum, i'd likely be stuck on leg orbits and remained there.
also, this is one of the most civilized forums i've been on all over the internet - mad props to the mods and the community in general.

happy birthday dca!

almost hesitant to put up this performance among the crazy good videos...but here's my last performance at chinese school, after performing regularly there for about seven years. it's been quite a journey from the stick grinds and cradles of my first one to here.

chinese school graduation '09

oh, and finally got around to switching from bearing back to fixed axles for this performance =P

i keep trying to switch back over to fixed axles, and along comes something like this... =P

im suddenly imagining a bunch of people in the sundia R&D:
"one bearing worked pretty well...what should we do next?"
"add more!"
"alright, let's do this."

are there judges? ones who know diabolo?
if they know diabolo, you can try some technical tricks that aren't quite as showy.
if they don't know diabolo (like the ones i've been in...) just treat it as a performance - if you can get the audience to respond favorably, its good.

make up your own combos - see what tricks you have that you are comfortable with, and see if they can string together, especially if the tricks 'orbit' the same way. doing basic suns, for example, can lead you straight into arm satellites, and if you add one or two arm satellite variations, you've already got yourself a pretty sweet combo.

good luck with the competition!

so, i haven't been on here for a good bit. got a tad swamped by the rigors of college life.

friend came over, and we had a little fun out in the field. good tricks, old tricks, dropped tricks, they're all there in LED glory =D

enjoy, and as always, any criticism is welcome.

btw, taibolo lights = win. - light 'em up

editor: me
the guy who's good is chickeneater72790, the guy who drops a lot is me, the glowstringer goes by Lira.

(p.s. haven't been here for a bit...can we embed videos?)
edit - Sean - Welcome back - yes you can!

I've played with my flys for almost two years, and haven't had anything break yet. they are generally more than durable enough for standard surfaces, however, i really wouldn't advise practicing vertax on concrete...i've seen my friends' break that way.

leg satellites in a...i hope thats a kilt. mad props for that =P
and yeah, that was a different style than im used to (i guess i could only be considered a little kid in 2003), but that was sick. one of the best audience reactions i've ever seen in a performance.

sweet start there. you could surprise some people with that - i didn't notice your third diabolo until it popped out from your side =P

Tricks / Re: 2 Diabolos high
« on: November 01, 2008, 07:43:35 PM »
don't even try 2d until you can get the 1d pattern solid. keep track - when you say you have to move to catch a throw, are you always moving the same way? adjust your throws accordingly... for example, i have a tendency to leave my throws too far left, so i consciously practiced keeping my left hand a little higher, tossing farther to the right, and i straightened myself out.
