General / Re: Butterflies are attracted to diabolos?
« on: April 22, 2008, 02:48:21 PM »
lol jeez, as butterflies see things in UV you should get those invisible pens with the UV sensitive and write on it 'butterflies be warned' or something
but it may be a bit challenging for the butterflies to read the text when the diabolo is in motion. otherwise good idea!  ;)

Are there preferences which diabolo color they like the most? I can imagine that glow diabolos work best.

OT: Yesterday I hit a big bumblebee out of the air (unintentionally) while juggling 3c. dunno if it felt attracted to my clubs, but it got hit by a tight thrown double!
I put it in some rhododendron blooms to regenerate it's powers...  :-[

I'm New / Re: Learning 2 diabolo! keeping the shuffle going
« on: April 04, 2008, 03:27:54 PM »
for me it helped a lot, not to try to push the diabolos down on the right side (righties), but rather lift the string up as soon as the diabolo touches the string. the fluid movement looks like I'd push it down everytime it comes to the right side, but in fact I try to lift up the string and then I have to lower it to do that again. I think it's more the way you accelerate one diabolo as a beginner.
with this movement I'm easily able to keep the shuffle going using my right hand only.

maybe this can be helpful for someone...  ;)

I'm New / Re: Introduce yourself
« on: March 20, 2008, 06:44:23 PM »
hi, I'm new (obviously ::)) and I wanted to introduce myself and tell you a bit about me. So I answered the questions and added some of my own. Here we go...

Name: Fabian
Location: near Munich, Germany
Age: 24
Website: none

1. How many years have you diaboloed for?
I started around the age of 13/14 (not really sure, though) with one yellow Henry's Jazz Diab. Then I've diaboloed more or less for about two or three years. Later I bought a 2nd Jazz (blue), but I took the Diabolos only occasionally with me and never learned to play with 2D.
And now I continue for about 2 weeks...

2. What or who got you started?
I can't remember clearly, but I think it was in school. Either soccer, athletic sports or diabolo. So I took the Diabolo.
After a few days when I couldn't think of any more tricks, I went to the library and lent "Das große Diabolo-buch" ("The big Diabolo-book" or something like this) written by Ralf Runde. I've had this book for more than 6 month and I knew almost every trick from the book.

3. What do you like best about the diabolo or juggling in general?
I like to do things that first seem impossible and then the more you practice, the easier it gets (of course up to a certain point  ;)). Furthermore, all this juggling stuff is imo really good to train your hand-eye-coordination, some theoretic physics, concentration, to get a (different/better) feeling for your body, and some more. With better feeling for the body I mean e.g. that you learn how to do a certain move for a certain thing do happen. Of course, the show-off factor is a cool add-on.

4. How many hours a day do you diabolo on average?
atm only about 30 min. but average! during summer it will be much more!  ;D

5. Do you ever perform with the diabolo?
Not on stage. But when I'm at the lake or somewhere and play, the people take a look.

6. Do you juggle other props? If so: balls, clubs, rings, cigar boxes, devil sticks... ?
Yes, I do. Balls, clubs and rings (in this order and skill-level). But I have no real skills in juggling. I've just started and try to learn new things now.

7. What are your favourite diabolos, sticks, and string?
Dunno... I've had two Jazz, woodsticks and a string used for kites. But I'll know more soon.

8. Do you like working with 1, 2, or 3 diabolos the best?
Two atm. never tried 3 yet.

9. What is your favourite diabolo trick that you can do?
2D sprinkler suicide exit

10. What is the most amazing diabolo trick you've ever seen done?
Most of the stuff I see currently is amazing. But one of my favourite videos is "The Beat Of The Diabolo" by Pranay Werner, especially from 2:42 - 3:06. Pranay, if you read this: This combo is amazing!!!  :o

11. What tricks are driving you nuts right now (what are you working on)?
2D continuous wrap accelerations, Excalibur things

12. What other diaboloists have inspired you?
Of course tmfp and all good players who put their vids on youtube.

additional part:

13. Have you ever visited a juggling gathering/convention?
No, unfortunately not. :-[ But I want to. If there only was one near Munich.

14. Do you know any other diabolo players/jugglers in your area?
No, nobody. I'm the only one that I know. In Munich city there are some diabolo players, but thats about 40 km away.

15. What "sports" do you do else?
slacklining, penspinning, mountainbike, ski, snowboard

16. Which languages do you speak?
german, english ( :-\), swedish

17. Anything more?
Yes, two points are still to come. Take a look at 18. and 19.

18. Why did you continue playing diabolo?
I watched some vids on youtube and was so stunned about the progress in this sport. The smallest little children are doing suns and sprinklers with 2D!?  :o And I never managed to have 2 diabs in one string? No way! I have to continue!!
And of course it's fun and addicting, once you can see a little progress in skillz...

19. What changed?
phew... you never run out of questions, do you? Okay, that's one more point why it was so amazing to watch new vids and check a little bit of new informations: When I began, I've had my Henry's Jazz, two wooden sticks (without even a real shape, just the plain sticks) and a string used for kites.
Then I came back about 10 years later (=now) and you have carbon-fibre sticks, high quality strings and tuning kits for diabolos. Many new tricks and styles (Excalibur, 3D, ...) and all tricks have (more or less) cool names. Yeah! First I thought it'd be hard to understand and remember all the trick names and stuff, but now I figured out that it's not rocket science and I'm getting into it pretty well.

I'm done. Feel free to ask any questions you like. I hope, I can improve my skills and I hope my long post was not too boring to read.
so long..
