Tricks / Re: Vertax Infinite suicides
« on: July 13, 2009, 03:12:14 PM »
I might be wrong, but I'm almost positive that tempei's is infinite. He right front wraps, but the effect is the same.
Edit: Also, yet again, not sure, but it makes sense to me that you would want the diabolo to be nearly perfectly vertical to perform this trick smoothly, because of the rapid rotation.
Correct me if I'm wrong on either bit because I am very curious about this trick in particular.

I'm New / Re: Introduce yourself
« on: July 05, 2009, 09:27:48 PM »
Alright, I've been on D.Ca for quite a while, but I don't remember officially introducing my self, so here it goes:

Name: Eric
Location: Ohio, USA
Age: 17 soon to be 18
Website: YouTube.com/etamark

1. How many years have you diaboloed for?
2 off and on

2. What or who got you started?
buddy of mine had one and couldn't manage anything with it and I learned quickly

3. What do you like best about the diabolo or juggling in general?
I love the way that it feels looking back and knowing how much trouble you had learning a trick that seems so easy now

4. How many hours a day do you diabolo on average?
not as much as I would like (busy and my shoulder's a little messed up)

5. Do you ever perform with the diabolo?
nothing official

6. Do you juggle other props? If so: balls, clubs, rings, cigar boxes, devil sticks... ?
I juggle balls, clubs, rings, random things that inspire me, basically everything I get my hands on.

7. What are your favourite diabolos, sticks, and string?
Taibolos or finesses, homemade sticks, henry's yellow

8. Do you like working with 1, 2, or 3 diabolos the best?
one. not so good with two and I like the variety of 1d tricks

9. What is your favourite diabolo trick that you can do?
basically whatever I learned most recently

10. What is the most amazing diabolo trick you've ever seen done?
Oh man. too many to choose

11. What tricks are driving you nuts right now (what are you working on)?
tricks with 2d

12. What other diaboloists have inspired you?
Who hasn't? Everyone I see or hear or read posts from have some effect on me.

Gear / Re: Soaping your string to make it less slippery?
« on: May 31, 2009, 05:55:20 PM »
I'm generally the type to use it new until it breaks in. It lasts so much longer and I've gotten used to it well enough that I can do hover starts and most everything with slippery string (not as well, of course)
However, when I need it grippy quick, like before a performance or such, I have two tricks that work fantastically:
get a piece of beat up rope or a very beat up diab string, step on it on the ground so you have a loop, then drag the new string very quickly through the loop while pulling hard.
The second method is similar, but you find a wooden post or something rough like that to drag it across. Those have both worked perfectly every time I've tried them.
Sidenote: both work very quickly and I'm guessing it would be very easy to overdo it and end up tearing the string. Do it a little bit and then test it with a diabolo.

that was awesome. I like that stickwrap>whip>suicide thing at the end in particular.

Tricks / Re: Starting and correcting 2 diabolos
« on: May 25, 2009, 05:43:36 AM »
I don't know if I'm just dumb or something, but 2d was the most frustrating thing I've learned to do in my entire life. Even after I got the wrap start (after trying just about every other start there was) it still took me easily 6 months to get a shuffle going decently. Heck, I can still barely correct anything. I guess it just doesn't come to some people as easy as others.

All I can say is it is worth the effort. I'm not consistent by any measure, but I managed a few sprinkler-suicide exits the other day and I ran around screaming for a little bit. There's something awesome about a trick finally clicking.

Gear / Re: where to find Glary taibolo LED?
« on: May 17, 2009, 07:10:52 PM »
Nev most certainly ships out of the UK. cost me about 11  usd to have two taibolo shipped to Ohio, USA. Only 4 dollars more than from juggling store in California.

Gear / Re: What was your first diabolo?
« on: April 16, 2009, 10:12:38 PM »
Little blue eagle if memory serves. it technically belonged to a friend of mine, but I basically inherited it after he gave up on learning diabolo. It worked great and is still decently smooth despite the fact that it is rougher than an armadillo in a rose bush. (didn't realize that it wasn't a concrete toy)

Alright, that was absolutely amazing. Among that river of gold the diamond was the tricks involving the right/left handed mirror image type stuff. That blew my socks off. I want to see Arjan and Martijn experiment with that sort of stuff. (no slight against Joona and Eljas. I just really like body combos and would like to see that idea applied to them.) You guys are pushing boundaries all the time and I look forward to seeing more out of you.

Gear / Re: Your diabolos colors. Why did you choose them?
« on: March 18, 2009, 01:46:02 AM »
I have a white and a red finesse because I like how those two colors compliment eachother: contrast, but don't clash. The white one is becoming a bit dirt/grass coloured. Oh well. . .

I recently bought one black and one white taibolo and switched cups and hubs. They are now both black, white, metal, black, white. I like it because if you want two of the same colour (such as white for performing under a blacklight) you are able, but you can also just flip one over for the contrast. I like variety. Also, in case anyone's wondering, there didn't seem to be any discernible change in the steadiness of the spin, which is saying something with Taibolos.

u dont need 3d its anoying learn it later when u r amazing with 2 and 1 other wise it take ages to learn
I agree with diabolowho, but if you really aren't getting it, don't get down on yourself, but focus on something else for a couple of days. Also, don't focus too much on 3d. I did that with 2d and somehow managed to actually forget how to do a lot of cool 1d stuff.

Wow, my taibolos just got here. They're amazing! I'm so glad I got them. Definitely worth getting.
That is exactly what I was gonna say. Nice.

There's a note on Nev's site explaining his prices since he buys his stock in US Dollars so he's had to adjust them. The economy confuses me, but I don't know if that explains it. Alternatively, jugglingstore could just be really pricey..
That might have something to do with it. Jugglingstore's prices are very middle-of-the-line, but every once in a while you can find really good deals there. this just wasn't one of those times.

a white and a black taibolo. so excited to try some grind tricks. my homemade sticks are a little on the thick side. too wide for good stuff with a finesse, but I'm too lazy to fix 'em. woo! also, what would have cost me about a hundred dollars from jugglingstore before shipping cost $70.96 from Nev's shop. (across the atlantic) whacky.

Tricks / Re: Starting and correcting 2 diabolos
« on: February 23, 2009, 03:33:13 AM »
One trick I used to learn the wrap start was to put a weight about that of one diabolo on the string. I used a few large washers. Then I tried to get the diabolo to stay up above the washers without hitting them at all. It got me doing it well within an hour or two.

Tricks / Re: Ideas for tricks from a particular mount
« on: February 13, 2009, 09:20:43 PM »
Not real cool, but if you seperate the sticks' ends, you can do a trapeze over the outside stick and then let go of the string and the diabolo will fall onto an open string. I've been working on cool stuff to do from that.

After 6 months of sporadic practice, 2d clicked and within 2 weeks I have left suns, a sloppy sprinkler, and a few grind combo-y things. Woo!
