To answer question #4, I would HIGHLY recommend Taibolo strings. Some diabolo strings are slippery when you first use them, before the grip sets in. Others have a good grip right away but snap pretty easily. With Taibolo strings, you get the best of both worlds. Good luck with that.

Hey! Just wanted to share a really cool gig I did.

Let me know what you guys think. Be as painfully honest as you would like to be as long as it is constructive. It can also be about the video itself too, not necessarily the performance. Thanks guys!

Tricks / Re: Diabolo Challenge Tricks
« on: November 03, 2015, 04:39:59 AM »
Here's a couple of them. But first:
Get into vertax but instead of tilting the diabolo up, you tilt it down. So you'll be facing downwards when keeping the diabolo spinning and turning counter clockwise instead of clockwise. It shouldn't be too hard if you're comfortable doing Vertax. Let's call this reverse vertax.
Once you get it, here's the fun part:
1. Attempt a suicide.
2. Do a genocide.
I don't really have any pointers on how you can do those 2 tricks. So good luck. Post a video if you get them or any other tricks on this thread.

That would be pretty sweet to have a diabolo competition or convention. It could even be just an annual unofficial "convention" or meetup somewhere where we would just spend a week spinning some diabolos. I'm actually in Minneapolis (far away) but I may actually swing by in NYC this summer for a bit.

Hey, just wondering if anyone here in Minnesota plays the diabolo. Just moved here to attend college in Minneapolis, would be great if there is anyone around to meet up for a spin.

Well, I would usually pick a good spot with a crowd. I find that the simpler tricks such as high throws, infinite suicides, suns, elevators etc. impresses the crowd the most. Tricks such as complex integral suicides do not work; the crowd will not get them. My favorite attention-grabber would be throwing a diabolo up to a wire(or anything fancy you can find) at the roadside, letting it roll along the wire(or whatever it is). You could also try tying up a string to something high, get the diabolo spinning really fast, and do an elevator which goes all the way to the top or as high as possible. Maybe you could let the audience try if you are looking for something more interactive. Good luck!

Hey are there any diabolo players in Taipei right now apart from the TPEC team? I'll be here until the 9th so I'd be more than happy to meet up with anyone here.

The Malaysian diabolo teams use nylon string instead of regular diabolo string. They wrap the diabolos twice when doing the hover and unwrap it once once they start the chinese flicks before shuffling it again. I find it a little odd but it's real interesting.

Whenever i drop the diabolo while practicing 3d, it tends to roll behind me and I would stop it with my left crossed behind my right foot.
I played beer pong with my diabolos once.
My friend was doing an infinite suicide once when he received a phone call; he picked it up with his left hand and started talking on the phone while doing the infinite suicides, hung up and tuck it back into his pocket.
