Community & Events / British Young Juggler of the Year 2011
« on: January 03, 2011, 10:05:25 PM »
Hello!
Long time no see here. I've been rather busy with offline stuff over the last year or so. Anyhow, I'm organising the British Young Juggler of the Year again this year, at this year's British Juggling Convention in Nottingham. If you're interested, continue reading...
When is it?
Monday 18th April 2011
Who can enter?
There are two criteria:
- You need to be under 21*
- You need to be British (partly British is good enough, but living in Britain at the moment isn't)
What do I have to do?
Entertain a room full of jugglers for between 2 and 5 minutes.
What can I do on stage?
Whichever kind of act you want, with any kind of prop. It can be artsy, comedy, street-style, choreographed to music, technical, or any combination you can think of. Use any prop you like, in any style, but no
yo-yo acts please, as they already have their own competitions.
What can I win?
- The British Young Juggler of the Year Award: This is voted for by the audience. At the end of the show, each member of the audience will choose the act that they thought was the best. Everyone will have different
criteria as to what makes a good act, so if you want to win, work hard on all aspects of your performance!
- Gold and Silver Awards: These are decided by a panal of judges. Each juggler is judged on how well they performed their style of act. If it's considered to be of a high standard, then it'll be awarded a silver. If it's outstanding, then it'll be given a gold.
- Judges Choice: The judges decide who put together the best performance of the night.
- Convention Awards: Awarded by various convention organisers, if they want to book an act for their public show immediately!
What if I don't have an act, but still want to take part?
Enter the best trick competition! As the votes are being counted, and the judges are deliberating, there will be a time for you to show off your best trick, whether it's interesting, inventive, silly, or just plain hard. The winner is chosen by the entrants.
If you're interested in taking part, then send an email with your name, age, area of the country, and what you think you'll perform with, to byjoty@bjc2011.co.uk
Registration will close at midnight on March 20th 2011, so don't be late!

*I've had a couple of enquiries from some older, first time performers, who missed out on last year's competition, due to it being organised at short notice, but are now above the age bracket. If this is you, send me an email, and I'll do my best to accommodate.
