how can you get 100 score? was the routine completely perfect ?

No!  The scores from all the judges were entered into a spreadsheet, and then they were all normalized.

The highest contestant's raw score from each judge is normalized to 100 points and the other scores from that judge determined by multiplying 100 times a contestant's raw score divided by the highest contestant's raw score.

The average Final Score for each contestant is determined by discarding their highest and lowest normalized scores from the judging panel and averaging the remaining normalized scores (to the nearest hundredth of a point.) The contestant with the highest average normalized score is the winner.

The California State Yo-Yo Contest was a huge success!

We had diabolo freestyles there for the first time, and they were a lot of fun.  The freestyles were judged upon 3 criteria (Proficiency, Difficulty, and Presentation).  They were 2 minutes in length.

Here are the results:

Place   Name                 Score
1      Chris Garcia         100.00
2      Ben Langholz        97.83
3      Bryan Figueroa     66.97
4      David Mellons       60.65
5      McLeod Benson    45.03
6      Rick Cobb            32.34

I will post videos when they are up.

Shane... you have a great diabolo/yo-yo hybrid style... I love it!

I want credit for giving you the idea for the Afro bounce whip catch that you did at Worlds!

The Diabolo Freestyles at the World Yo-Yo Contest were great!

Thanks Shane for posting them!!

The Diabolo Freestyles at The World Yo-Yo Contest were great.  We used the Daibolo Ladder as a preliminary round, and we took the top 10 placers into the freestyles.  The variety of styles was fun to watch.  Each country seemed to have there own flavor.  The 2 minutes we were given for each freestyle were short, and I hope we can have 3 minutes next year.  I know a lot of people are not into competitions, but this was a fun way to get people to show off their skills.  Also, the freestyles generated a lot of interest in diabolo play.

Here are the results:
(REMEMBER... this is not a "World" title.  It was just an exhibition contest.

Would that be the BLC contest that just happened at the beginning of this month?  I was supposed to go because I was originally going to California for the 4th, but I ended up going to Vegas last minute instead.  :-\  Everybody I knew that went said they had a great time, though.
No, the BLC (Bill Lebowitz Classic) is also know as the Southwest Regional, and it was a great contest.  The California State Yo-Yo Contest is in San Francisco, and will be on Sept. 6th this year.

I love yo-yos!!  I run the California State Yo-Yo Contest... we do some diabolo stuff there.

Please note that these events do NOT name a World Title or Champion.  They are just a fun part of the larger World Yo-Yo Contest.

The World Yo-Yo Contest 2008
Orlando, Florida
July 31 - August2

There will be a Diabolo Ladder again at The World Yo-Yo Contest.  This is the 3rd year we have run a Diabolo Ladder at Worlds, and we tried to make this ladder a little more challenging.   Though most diabolo players will think this is a pretty easy list.

Here is the Diabolo Ladder (all videos will be posted soon):

For the 1st time at Worlds, we will be having a Diabolo Freestyle Exhibition.  The 7 to 10 contestants who place highest on the Ladder will be given a chance to freestyle.  Freestyles will be 2 minutes, and they will be judged on a criteria system.

Here are the Rules for the Diabolo Freestyles:

Logoman - organizing an event does take a lot of work, BUT it is totally doable.

Hit me up on AIM or e-mail and I can give you some tips I use for organizing events.

I will be at both The World Yo-Yo Contest in FL and the NY Yo-Yo Contest.  We are still planning the diabolo divisions for Worlds, and I will post about them soon.

I can't wait to meet Langley!!

Pardon my necro posting.... I am coming late to this...

Spintastics has a Diabolo Team, but it is true we don't do much at the moment (and no I am not offended Sottle... love ya man!)  A team is just a way for people to support each other and feel united.  Being sponsored by a company can get you free gear or other perks like plane tickets to contests/festivals.  A player that is sponsored will use that company's gear or wear their logo and thus promote the name.  I think sponsorship can be a good thing for a player, company, and the diabolo community.

...nice tutorial ::).

Just out of interest, does anyone know exactly HOW the axle is changed? I'm guessing it's something to do with fixing it to the hubs...

I have heard that there will be no tools required to change from fixed to bearing and back again.  The hubs screw together, though I don't know if it is tension that keeps the bearing from spinning.

Lol, I did this on a whim, and got some new spinabolo pro cups (thanks Stu) and did it to those too
No problem!

Excellent Job!  I love the Fly and I love the Spinabolo.  The fly's guts are far superior, and I like the Spinab's shells.  So this is a great mod!!
