Community & Events / Anyone from England Nottingham especaily?

Hey guys,
Did anyone manage to meet up in Market square yesterday?  We could make it a regular thing, though the arboritum is probably a better location.

Hey Will when are you doing this promo stuff next week?

Anyway you should all come along to the conventions as it is certainly the best way to learn tricks in my opinion I went to the Notts convention last year and learned about 5 hard diabolo tricks some of which I haven't replicated to this day.

Oh yeah I forgot to add that peachy (a guy from the Notts jugglers group) is organising monthly one day conventions at the uni.  The first one is on the 9th of October (thats a sunday I think) at the UNiveristy of Nottingham Portland building.  The same place that the Notts convention was held this year for those that were there.  SO that will definatly be worth coming along to.

Hey, I'm from Notts.

I'm at the uni in my third year so I'm about quite a bit.  I suppose if your looking for people to juggle with then you don't know about either the Nottingham University club ( that meets on Mondays or if your not up for hanging around with a bunch of students then theres the club in the city( that also meets on monday evenings.  Alternatively there are a bunch of fire spinners who meet up on a thurday evening in forest fields.  There a good bunch of guys but not many diaboloists.

I'm usually found at the uni juggling club on a monday.  Anyway post back or email me.  If your interested in meeting up.  I'm usually the only diabolo enthusiast at the clubs so it would be great to meet a fellow follower of diabolosim.

I really can't find out how to work that trick the bit of string going from the central mess to my right stick just slips off and the whole thing goes haywire.  hmm need to look at it some more.

Cheers everyone for coming up and making it such a good convention.  It was my first by the way and now I'm planning on making it to so many more (as soon as I get back from canada).  I can see is the kind of thing thats becomes very compulsive, like juggling itself i suppose.

I learned so much from Dave P, Sean_, Andy, Veronique, Matt...  the list goes on.  I didn't touch my juggling balls or clubs all day and I've been outside trying to get 3 to work all day.

The show was great even if there was a silly amount of hats involved.

There's a few diaboloists in Notts but I'm the only one in the uni juggling club (not strictly true but the only one who's on to 2 diabolos).  I can't wait to meet some people who can show me stuff in real life that I've been trying to work out from movies.  Who knows maybe some Notts diaboloists will come out of the woodwork for the convention.

I'm glad to see you leeds guys are coming down.  I'm sure there'll be loads of people who are up for a quick trip up to leeds in November.

Andy, I don't believe that your coming all the way from Southampton.  Thats a real trek, much appreciated.

Oh yeah and David LH, you know Sam as in the current president of the Notts Uni Juggle Soc, right?

See you all on saturday!!! :D

I was amazed just by how hard it looked the first time I saw this trick now thats it's been explained I'm amazed at the skill it took to come up with that and get it going consistently.

Definatly something to play with tonight at the juggling club.

Have you tried putting both handsticks in one hand, a little style trick not particularly technical.

Or where to catch the diabolo in an arm trap on the right hand side and then front wrap and do a slowicide out, also called a fritz release I beleive.  That ones on Jibe's website.

Bouncing the diabolo from one side to the other over your leg is also a fun one.

Gear / chinese yoyos...
« on: February 06, 2005, 03:17:45 PM »
Generally, everyone seems to work out what correction best fits their style and their diabolo of preference just by practicing lots and lots, if something isn't working then look at someone elses style of corections on a video and attempt that and tweak it so it works best for your set up.

One idea I had about the chinese yoyo's was that because the 'cups' are so far away from the axel, you could correct by grinding the yoyo on the stick with the string side down and forwars to turn the front away from your hand or up and forwards to turn the front towards your hand.  This is much like grind corections.  I sometimes do with with my two diabolo corrections and it seems to work fine.  Just a thought.

The guy that owns the juggling shop in Nottingham seems to think that he's getting some in about a month.  Probably due to the fact that I go in there ranting about getting them in all the time.  He orders off butterfingers so I suppose that it must be available to most juggling shops in the UK soon.

The guys in the Nottingham Juggling Club have gotten together with us at the University of Nottingham Juggling Club to put on a Juggling convention at the University of Nottingham.

It's going to be a one day affair on the 5th of March 2005 from 10am to 5pm.  There's going to be workshops, games, a bar, and a show in the evening.

Tricks / Body moves

There are many magic knots to get out of various types of body orbits.  The one diabolo section of videos on Jibe's Diabolo site is a great place to learn interesting body moves and magic knots.

Tricks / 2d Mills Mess
« on: December 03, 2004, 10:30:18 AM »
Theres a trick on diabolumberto's category Diabolo EJC video at about 1:12 that has some interesting underarm moves that looks like it could be continued to something that would look like mills mess.  It might be a bit hard but I'm going to give it a go.
