Videos / Diabolo Archives
« on: January 22, 2019, 03:42:51 PM »
Hi everyone!

Wanted to do something with all the unused clips I've recorded over the years.
I'll be uploading other stuff in different formats in the upcoming months.
Most of it is a bit outdated now, but I still like some of the ideas and felt they were worth sharing.
Hopefully doing this will give me the motivation to pick up my diabolos again.

This one is from September 2014. I wanted to see if my phone (iphone 4 at the time) was good enough to film with. Ended up with theses clips. Some of the material ended up in String Theory with Michal, and WET with Thomas and Etienne.
It contains one of my favorite combo (00:57-01:12), which I hope I'll film better someday.

I'll add the next videos to this topic.
Hope you'll like it

To be fair, Langerz, you are also a genius. Especially considering your videos are 6 years old and no one came close to your level until Michal.

Ah Lund's excalibur trick is insane!
Apart from that, I have the same highlights as SebiHausi. Thanks for sharing

Sweet! Probably my favourite video from you. Every trick is top notch.

Only other thing I can say is I'm starting to get a bit tired of how your videos are presented. They all seem to blend in my head because it's always the same kind of music and the same kind of scenary. It obviously works really well, and it may just be me, but I think your videos would have an even greater impact if you mixed things up once in a while.

I'll take the time to write something proper when I come back because this deserves it.
In the meantime here's my HLGCBS:

highlight
The trip back from the sauna on the car's roof.

lowlight
None really...
If I had to pick one, I'd say the attendance was a bit low (Eljas?!). Hope to see more foreigners coming someday aswell.

goal
To someday come to FDC with a prepared show and a diabolo mod for the contest...

crush
Viljami's crazy trick.

bane
Having to leave early on Sunday and missing Diabolothon

biggest surprise
Arvi. Had very high expectations and he somehow exceeded them (by far...)

edit:
Oh! and breaking the most expensive diabolo in history is probably in there somewhere too. Not sure if that should be a high or a low  ::)

Gear / Re: Length of string in absolute scale
« on: January 22, 2014, 07:17:23 PM »
Cool idea. I don't have anything to measure precisely here but I can give a rough estimate.

William
Height: 1.86cm
String length: 1.45cm

A bit on the short side I think, I sometimes struggle with some body combos or 3d tricks. But overall it's what I'm most confortable with, I hate it when the sticks hit the ground during stick releases and a shorter length makes it easier to avoid. I use the same length for everything.

Answered on the doc aswell. It wouldn't let me keep the 4low option blank though, but I would be using this length for it too I guess

I'm glad a real discussion is back!
Crackers, that is the ticket!
But wis' idea seemed, to me, like you face forward and you have your arms and diabolo blind and behind you

Yeah I know, that's the next step (hopefully...)

And because wrap Crackers use the release for the miniG is between the arm and leg, not from the back.

Nah, since it's behind the back, the knots are inverted. Only using external wraps, the release will be behind you and the landing between your hand and your back. Using only internal ones, the release is between your hand and back, and the landing behind you.
Either way, unless I'm missing something, if you do it continuously, you can't avoid having a moment where the stick goes between your hand and your back (even if you choose to mix up internal and external wraps).
That's the hardest part and is one of the reason why I chose to go with external wraps (and internals in regular continuous mini-gens). Because, for me, it's easier to land the mini-gen between your hand and yourself than it is to release it between your hand and yourself.
That's a big part of what makes this difficult in my opinion, since in this position it's a lot harder to consistently do the knot you want than in the regular position. And it'll probably be much worse when trying the whole thing blind.
(Hope I'm beeing clear, it's kinda hard to put this on words...)

Crackers bonus trick was sweet. Good to have him as returning guest at FDC-festival this year.

Thanks! Looking really forward to it  :)

For Dani (btb continuous mini-gens + bonus)

Here is what I have so far. Still sloppy but getting there. (More info in the video description)
We should have more discussions like this going on...
