Technical / Nikon D3200: yay or nay for filming a diabolo vid?
« on: August 09, 2012, 11:32:22 PM »
Hey peeps! Hope this place is still alive, last time I was at BJC it sounded like .ca was dying… I don't come here often but I do like it, so I hope it stays alive :S

Anyways! I've been looking to get a pretty decent camera recently, partly for the purpose of possibly doing a diabolo video at some point in the future. (though I do want to use it for other stuff the diabolo thing is a big reason I want to get a decent camera)

I've been primarily looking at entry-level DSLR's, and more recently the Nikon D3200 in particular, which I'm now seriously considering getting.

Would this be a good choice, particularly considering videoing diabolo stuff? Is there a better option I could consider (bearing in mind about £500 is quite close to the top of my budget, though it can stretch a little further)? Thanks for any help anyone can give ^_^

Tricks / Vertax tricks?
« on: March 27, 2012, 12:41:34 PM »
Hello everyone! Haven't posted here in a while but I was wandering a bit about vertax…

I'm able to do Vertax fairly solidly, can do a couple of tricks and am currently working on vertax genocide, but I haven't really been able to get much info on tricks beyond that point; magic knots, 'grinds' (if thats what they're called when people spin the diabolo on the tip of their sticks…), etc.

I was wandering where I could get more info on how to do these tricks? Videos/tutorials would also be immensely helpful.

Thanks! :D

Tricks / infinite suicide into magic knot... AAAAH!
« on: October 05, 2010, 12:26:12 AM »
Hi everyone, I don't really post on here much, but... well, I kinda need help.

Basically, I've been trying to get the hang of infinite suicide into a basic magic knot outing... however, I've hit a wall in the fact that the string keeps missing the diabolo! Once I try and enter the magic knot, the string will go over the handstick fine and dandy, but then I continually fail to make it then go under the diabolo and thus complete the knot, it just goes round the stick again!

Does anyone have any tips on how I could solve this issue? Thanks to any help anyone can give! :)

Tricks / beginner 2D tricks...
« on: June 13, 2010, 11:36:45 PM »
Hi there everyone!

I've been practicing 2D for a while now, and I can do a solid shuffle and all, but I've been struggling when it comes to actually doing some tricks...

I think that part of the reason is that I don't really know what to start with, I've been kinda toying with all sorts of tricks like under the arm, fans, sprinklers, etc, but I don't really know which to focus on.

Can anyone tell me what would be a good trick to focus on first, then move on from there?

Thanks for any help anyone can give! :D

Gear / The new Sundia 'Shining' diabolo - worth getting?
« on: August 18, 2009, 12:37:06 AM »
Basically, the title says most of what I want to know :P

Thing is, I already own a set of the previous Sundia 'Fly' diabolo's, and I was wandering if its worth getting the 'Shining' versions for its triple-bearing system thingymegig (I won't pretend to understand it  ::)). I've heard their a lot better, but I've been kind of wandering whether or not I should get a couple of them, especially considering the heafty price tag (I already owe my mother £100, and my budget is rather low!)

So, ermmm... Can anyone help me out?

Technical / iMovie - a viable editing tool?
« on: June 05, 2009, 09:40:49 AM »
Hi guys, I'm considering making my own video very very soon (with a friend or two... I'm afraid none of us entirely brilliant jugglers but we'll see how it goes :)), and this will be my first video I'll ever be doing any editing work on...

So I was just wandering, as editing goes, does iMovie work very well? I'm afraid I have no other choice really, but I was curious how good it was, or maybe soem tips on clever thingymegig's you can do with it? thanks for any help anyone can offer :D

Gear / how are diabolo's made?
« on: May 15, 2009, 11:49:44 PM »
right, i'm hoping someone on here has some form of experience with Design and Technology... erm.. Basically i'm considering making a diabolo for my D.T A level project (if I do D.T at all lol), and I need to know about how it would be produced in an industrial scale...

what individual parts are made/how? are diabolo's mass or batch produced? what process is involved? that kinda stuff really >_<

does anyone know perchance? thanks for any help anyone can offer :D

Gear / where to find Glary taibolo LED?
« on: April 24, 2009, 02:01:52 AM »
right, i've been able to find LED taibolo's around the web, but in very few numbers... taibolo's also appear to be rather hard to find... but i've been looking around for Glary Taibolo's with LED and simply can't find a website where i can actually buy one... i've seen pleanty of pictures and stuff for it, but nothing about actually getting one :( i did try out what appeared to be the taibolo home website, but it was all in Chinese and rather confusing, and i didn't find anything about buying one...

does anyone know where to get one? are they not available yet? is there any difference between Taibolo LED's and Glary Taibolo LED's? so many questions! waaaaaaaaahhhh! :'(

General / random discussion about the casaulties from your diaboloing...
« on: January 27, 2009, 12:11:57 PM »
rightio then! i suddenly became a little bit curious about the destructive powers of the diabolo...

i'm pretty sure that people have broken stuff (other than the diabolo itself) with the diabolo... what was the worst thing you've broken before? i ahevn't actually broken any objects with my circus stuff as of yet, but my diabolo did hit a person in the face rather hard.... i still feel guilty abouts it :(

Tricks / horizontal diaboloing...
« on: January 23, 2009, 10:27:34 PM »
right, i'm afraid that (compared to professionals, at least) im a bit of an amateur at diaboloing, on top that i know very few names for tricks and such... which is possibly the reason i''ve been having some trouble finding a certain trick.

i've seen a lot of diabolo video's on the web with people tilting the diabolo and spinning it horizontally, and spinning it around themselves... i'm hopeful that (considering this is a forum specifically for diaboloists) someone will know what i'm talking about... what is it called, and is there any advice and tutorials on how to do the trick?
