Hey guys, I just submitted my entry to the IJA Tutorial Contest.
It's an interactive tutorial, meaning that you can choose what you want to learn throughout the video.
I recommend watching it on youtube, so that you can use the annotations and stuff.
I hope you enjoy it! I worked very hard on it :)

Practice / Slowmotion Diabolo Integrals
« on: January 26, 2013, 06:19:30 AM »
I got a new camera! It's the Canon T3i (600D) and it's awesome. I filmed this in 60 FPS at 720p. The tricks aren't anything new but I am just getting into learning integrals so I thought I would try testing out my 60 fps while I practice. Also, sorry for the not so interesting background, I didn't really think I would be spending this much time on the video, but I ended up finding interesting ideas to edit it. I'd appreciate any comments you guys have!

Diabolo.ca Policy & Feedback / VotW Youtube Partnership?
« on: January 05, 2013, 05:03:02 AM »
I was wading through the dcavotw youtube page the other day and noticed that most of the videos have at least couple thousand views, and there are 1,200 subscribers. I was wondering if possibly somebody could apply for a partnership so that diabolo.ca gets paid for video views. This might help Sean a little with maintaining the forum :)

I don't know much about youtube partnerships and don't know if the channel would get accepted, but this is just an idea I had.

P.S. I know Lucas Abduch has a partnership, maybe he knows a bit more

Christmas is tomorrow! I know that most of you guys are in different time zones then me, so it might already be Christmas for you.
I was just wondering if you got any diabolo or juggling stuff and what it is. Happy Holidays!

Videos / Winter Jam 2012
« on: December 22, 2012, 02:30:10 AM »
I have been working on this video since August, but due to school and other things it took me a long time to finish. It shows most of my progress in juggling and diabolo this year (until the start of November). It was edited in iMovie. Watch in Full HD, it helps a lot. Enjoy!

It was raining a little outside today, so I decided to see what it's like to diabolo in the rain. Turns out it makes the string very grippy, but it's also lots of fun.
Constructive criticism is appreciated!

General / Diabolo Inventions and Machines
« on: November 29, 2012, 12:15:21 AM »
So lately I have seen that people have made really cool inventions for diabolos and juggling, like Tyson's selfstarting idea and maxmaestros idea of a diabolo robot.
I think it would be a good idea to start a thread where people can post ideas and designs for diabolo inventions in order to expand the world of diabolo.

So what ideas do you guys have?

Videos / New Diabolo Tutorials Website: Diabolotricks.net
« on: September 17, 2012, 01:59:51 AM »
We have already posted once in another thread but we thought we would post again now that the site is much more developed.
We created a new diabolo tricks website:
www.diabolotricks.net
It currently has almost 60 tricks and we are adding new tricks every week. We currently have tutorials for both one and two diabolo tricks.
Let us know what you think, if you have any constructive criticism on how to improve the site tell us.

Tutorials / Tutorial Request for Kyocide
« on: July 22, 2012, 11:52:10 PM »
Can somebody post a tutorial for kyocide? I  can't figure it out and I've only seen a few videos of the trick and I still don't get it. I can go up until catching the mini genocide type throw onto the string but then don't know what to do. If someone could make a tutorial or even just a slow motion video of the trick it would be great.

Hello Diabolo.ca,

So at the two juggling clubs I go to, I am the only diaboloist. I also have never met anybody else who diabolos in Los Angeles.

http://www.meetup.com/jugglebreak/

https://sites.google.com/site/safetyinnumbers/home

Those are the two clubs I go to. I was wondering if anybody else on this forum diabolos in my area, and if they would be willing to maybe go to these clubs every once in a while as I get lonely :P. It would be cool to meet someone else and exchange tricks in person, instead of just watching videos online all of the time.

Thanks,
Eric

Tricks / How to finish tricks
« on: May 25, 2012, 02:16:49 AM »
Hello, I was wondering what ways you can end a trick that will leave you with diabolo in your hand or on a stick. I know the basic ones (wrist catch, regular catch, crossed stick catch, UFO grind to catch...), but does anyone know more creative ways to finish? I'm sure there are tons more, and Ive searched the forum, but either I am not looking in the right places or it hasn't been discussed yet. So what finishes have you thought up or seen?

Thanks
Eric

(if this has already been discussed I apologize I just haven't been able to find a thread dedicated to this topic yet.)

General / Next Level of Diabolo
« on: May 08, 2012, 11:00:33 PM »
So I have been mostly learning tricks on youtube and diabolotricks.com, and I think I have learned most of the basics with 1d and 2d. I want to go farther with the diabolo, and have a couple questions.

1.) I've been watching all of the videos that people have been posted, where all of their tricks are made up of integrals and stuff. I've made up some simple tricks on my own, but nothing as complicated as anybody I've seen, so I was wondering how you get to that level where you can do those types of things.

2.) Would the Diabology DVDs  help? I've heard great things about it, but it seems a bit dated, so what are your opinions?

Sorry for all of these questions, I've just been thinking about it a lot lately.

Thanks in advance

-Eric

General / Diabolo Accidents or Injuries
« on: May 07, 2012, 09:11:03 PM »
I remember seeing a thread like this but nobody had posted on it for a couple years. So, just post all of the things that have gone wrong while you or a friend were diaboloing.

To start it off:
Yesterday I broke a window while I was trying an S-Fan, and a few days before that I tried doing chinese whipping with two diabolos and whipped myself  in the face. It hurt alot.

Tricks / 3 diabolos (Starts)
« on: May 03, 2012, 04:14:29 AM »
Hi all

I got my third diabolo today, and had a few questions on learning 3d

1.) For all of the people who have learned 3d already, what start method did you use? (throw in, wrap start, hover start...<<----And are there any other methods besides those?)

2.) Which is usually easier to learn first? 3d high or 3d low?

3.) Lastly, when I've tried the wrap start, when I put the third diabolo in a wrap it pulls the string away from the other two diabolos and messes it up. I know the obvious answer is, "Make sure not to pull the string" but I've done my best trying to do this and it seems there is no way I can wrap it without messing up the other stuff.

Thanks,
Eric

P.S. Also, about how long did it take you to get the hang of the 3d shuffle?

Gear / Diabology Dvds
« on: September 06, 2011, 12:54:09 AM »
I was about to order some stuff from Higgins brothers and saw their dvds. I have heard great things about the diabology dvds but don't know how current they are. Does anyone recommend a better dvd or book? And also can you look most of the tricks up online nowadays? Also, I'd like a dvd that gives tutorials on up to 3d.
Thanks

(I searched the forum and couldn't find an answer to this but forgive me if there is already a topic on this)

Practice / My 3 months progress
« on: August 23, 2011, 08:28:41 PM »
Well, I've decided to make a video of my progress after about 3 months. These are pretty much all the tricks I know. I'll gladly take suggestions and probably am missing many basics of the diabolo because I've learned only off of youtube and diabolotricks.com. I also kind of messed up my whip catch but am much more comfortable with it now. I don't know much about making combos or stuff like that if someone wants to make suggestions and help me with that. It's my first video of me and I tried hard to make it, but I didn't put any cool effects because I don't have a good video editing system or anything.

One other question is: Does anyone know the name of the trick at the start?

Juggling Routine.

Thanks,

Gear / Best Diabolo for numbers
« on: August 22, 2011, 07:25:08 PM »
I'm planning on getting new diabolos for juggling 2 and 3 diabolos and wonder whats the best kind. Right now I'm leaning towards getting 3  sundia fly long bearing diabolos. but I don't know how good that is for 2-3 diabolos. Right now I have a generic diabolo and a Revolution diabolo with a bearing. I'm wondering if bigger or smaller diabolos are better for juggling 2. I don't want a plastic diabolo but a hybrid or rubber one is great and I prefer a bearing. The reason I want the Fly is because I am just starting performing and thats the only large bearing diabolo I could find in my budget. I;ve heard good things about the Finesse but I need something that spins for a looong time and I can't afford buying the evolution kit for the finesse. Please help me out! Thanks.
