General / Physics!
« on: September 14, 2005, 05:08:48 PM »
Ok this could be seen as a cop-out, but I wanna do my piece of A2 physics c/wrk on diabolo, the only idea I have so far is to investigate into the effects of placement of mass on the diabolo and how this effects the length of time it takes to lose its speed to a stop.

Any ideas as to how I could speed the diabolo up to a uniform speed each time I do the test with a different mass on it?

Any ideas as to how to apply the mass?  I was thinking of using something like plasterscene (sp??) but then this would introduce the problem of the mass not being entirely uniform is applied to the outside rim of the cups.

Also if anybody has any ideas as to other areas of the diabolo I could investigate please do share them as I can literally investigate anything as long as it has something to do with physics.

Cheers!  :D

General / Left Handers Day!
« on: August 12, 2005, 10:28:35 PM »
In order to celebrate the joy/annoyance of being left handed, Left Handers Day was created!  This day takes place once a year on the 13th of August and organisers of events around the globe all have one common aim for the day, to have right handers spend the day experiencing all that is backwards as left handers do most days of their lives!

I'd like to suggest that everybody spend no time diaboloing right handed tomorrow...but I know thats not gonna happen, but hey, I'd love to see some attempts of right handers trying two diabs left handed   As well as that, any left handers out there that fancy joining in on the day you can get all your righty buds to spend a lil time attempting everything they do, left handed! If any of you have a left handed bread knife, let them use it and prove to them it does make a difference!

If anybody fancies checking out the official Left Handers Day site you'll find it here and any left handers who've ever had difficulty using scissors, bread knives or pens can check out their store for almost everything left of yet no left handed chain saws though  :(

Community & Events / Hat Fair 2005
« on: June 14, 2005, 06:37:17 PM »
Anybody thinkin o poppin along to the Hat Fair this year in Winchester commencing 30th June til 3rd July?  Takes place on Winch High Street, Cat Grounds and in the Arbour Green mainly, a map can be found on the 2004 section of the website.  Annoyingly they don't update it and let you know whats goin on until a couple of days before the actual festival but it's great fun to chill out and watch the performers.

I'll be goin along on the weekend days and busting out the diabs see if I can't earn a lil more than I did last year, maybe I'll even go on down on my free periods on college days  :)

If anybody does come along let me know, would be great to get together  :D

Tricks / Double antisuicide to sprinkler to swinging sfan
« on: May 10, 2005, 08:07:26 PM »
Hey Mattias and anybody else interested, heres the combo I was just talkin bout

Yeah check it out, I even managed to convert this one to mpeg myself  :D

Mod edit: description taken from this message in the "I just learnt to..." thread:
Wahey! just landed a sweet combo I was talking to Norbi about but with an added twist. Frontwrap double anti-suicide, transfer to sprinkler suicide out, popped up into a ping pong into s-fan...then I just fooled around for a bit with swinging fans until I thought I'd pushed my luck enough...

Tutorials / Vortex tutorial : Base trick and advanced variations
« on: February 21, 2005, 11:45:28 PM »
Sorry the Vortex tutorial took a bit longer than I expected...what can I say....I'm lazy   but finally it's all done! Fairly large file (33mb), sorry about that but I hope all who want to see it can cope with it. Check out my site for it or the direct link here.  Remember to right-click and choose save as...erm, for all you mpeg lovers im gonna have to ask for some kind soul to take this and convert it for you, I'd be happy to host if you can send it to me although it may be simpler for whoever does it to temporarily host it  :)

O and Dave, I found a bit of time while my cameraman was setting up to try the S-Fan trick a few times, I managed to land a quick one, nowhere near the slow controlled version we had been thinkin of...not yet anyway, it will happen

(edit) ooh and one more thing, if anybody's interested I do have a video of my performance...I realise afterwards it was fairly ambicious...and I had aimed at the wrong kinda of audience...and I had planned for a different kind of venue...and from the point of view of the video the lighting wasn't fantastic...but yeah, if anyones interested I'll see what I can do about making the video easier to watch and put it up for your pleasure. - Vortex tutorial

General / Lefty's!!!
« on: December 07, 2004, 09:59:31 PM »
I just read Arjan's post on the 180 fan, the only lefty I knew of before that was Fred, who else happens to be a closet lefty out there?

Don't you reckon it just makes learning tricks from vids so much easier, just havin to mirror everything and all, no need to reverse it all  :D

Tricks / S-Fan corrections, stability, tips?
« on: November 15, 2004, 07:19:34 PM »
I can keep my s-fan goin for about a minute if I'm havin a gud day, but I can't yet correct at all, sumtimes i mite be lucky and manage to tap the diabs in the rite posish at the rite time but I have no definate way of keeping it going.  Also the fan falls apart almost straight away when goin down on my back or shortly after running above my head.

Any tips on corrections or running high would be much appreciated
