Performances / Chinese diabolo troupe performance, 2008
« on: October 11, 2010, 10:19:20 AM »
Hello chaps,

A Taiwanese colleague of mine, after learning that I do the odd bit of diaboloing now and again, brought in quite an old school whistling Gong-Qun and sent me a couple of videos to look at. I thought I'd share this one, apologies if it's been posted already. It's one of those super-synchronised troupe performances, in the style of Cirque, including some vertax, multiple diabs and a couple of ludicrously long passes over the heads of the few remaining audience members who dared to sit underneath.

Anyway, here you go.

« on: October 26, 2007, 08:02:39 PM »
with the new year only around 8 weeks away, i thought it'd be a good time for the forum members to rate their top videos of 2007. i have to say, it's been a great year for videos, and maybe more are still to come (i've left my #5 slot available just in case). 2008 can only improve on this, and i hope the quality of videos and tricks just keeps getting better and better.

but for me, my top videos of 2007 are:

#1 collaboration video '07
#2 langerz - "carnage"
#3 busk - "small"
#4 sean_, nev, gt and mark bmc - "hot teen on cam"
#5 <left empty just in case>

please post your top 5 videos of 2007, and anything you'd like to see in 2008.

Gear / Diabolo / juggling eqpt for sale, brand new!
« on: August 16, 2006, 11:25:36 AM »
Hey all,

It's with regret that I have to make this post - I've struggled with tendonitis and torn shoulder tissue caused by juggling for many years now, had all sorts of treatment but it keeps getting worse... last year it was looking up, so I bought a whole lot of new props to inspire me and motivate me, sadly since then it hasn't improved and the equipment has just been sat redundant in my cupboard.

So I'm putting it up for sale, hopefully in the future I'll be able to continue my passion but for now I may as well pass my props on to someone who will get more out of them than I can right now. I know this isn't strictly diabolo related, but I thought I'd give everyone on first crack of the whip for all that you've given me in the past couple of years!

For sale :

2 x White Finesse G2 (bought for a performance that never happened)
1 x Henrys White Carbon long sticks
2 x Red / Blue Henrys Circus (cups swapped over)
9 x Henrys yellow superior 4-panel suede-feel juggling balls
7 x Fluozies deep red juggling balls (only a small quantity made!)
6 x Beard Circus Specials clubs (3 x yellow, 3 x green)
7 x Dube fluorescent green fat rings
3 x Mr Babache cigar boxes

Gallery -

All items are brand new except the 2 circuses, which have been used lightly.

If anyone is interested, please PM me.

Community & Events / Shefcon 2006
« on: June 24, 2006, 11:52:53 AM »

As the dates have recently been confirmed and are just spreading around the juggling community,  Shefcon 2006 is just around the corner and being by far the best convention I went to last year, is one for the diary!

For those that came last year, it's a similar set-up - a big weekend of juggling in an even bigger hall, workshops, games, events, shows, stalls, socialising and as much diabolo time as you can muster. There was a great turn-out last year from all over the country, including a really decent collection of diabolists and even better workshops by nik, dave_p and sean_.

Sat July 1st, Sun July 2nd at the Goodwin Sports Hall in the Uni Campus.

More details are at the website,
They are still looking for people in the show I do believe, contact details for the performer in you are again in the website.

Sadly I can't make the Saturday as I'm working, but I'll see you all there on the Sunday, should any of you have had any sleep whatsoever!

Videos / "Complete Diabolo" Japanese DVD
« on: April 18, 2006, 03:11:17 PM »
browsing through a couple of japanese sites i found this dvd, looks like it was released at the end of last year - i had to use google translator as my kana and kanji knowledge is not what it was - it produced a very broken up description, but at least gave some details.

has anybody seen this, or could maybe give more details? the contents are clearly listed, if someone could kindly translate that'd be great. the only thing i could make out was from the naranja site, which stated it had a bonus section (albeit only 4 minutes) by mr yabe.

regardless if it's a collection of routines, or more educational like the japanese diabology (i'd love to see that) it's bound to be good.

Gear / radical fish diabolos
« on: January 09, 2006, 07:36:23 PM »

this morning i was scouring all the uk juggling vendors as my youth club has kindly given me a £90 budget for new equipment for the circus group i run. anyway, i went to the beard site and noticed they had radical fish in their diabolo section, though out of stock. this intrigued me as i'd never heard of any before, and being quite innovative and well respected in terms of other juggling equipment (especially clubs), i tried to look a little further into them without much luck. all i got was

i noticed sean_ and mattias mentioned them briefly in another thread, but wondered how appropriate they were for, well, anything other than stick grinds! they look pretty hefty. i read somewhere that they were planning to make some new ones, new design etc but this was some time ago and i suppose it never went into production. does anyone know anything about this? i know the old ones have been discontinued, which isn't surprising as they don't look great, but generally they make fantastic props and i'm sure they'd come up with something pretty damn good if it happened.

/john, deciding on 2 oddballs radient jumbos as the 2 diabolos he's budgeted for
