Videos / Re: 5 Diabolo - New world record by Ofek Shilton

This is cool to see. That being said, it doesn't inspire me. That's all the feedback I have for the video.

On a personal level, I think people would find this less offensive if you said something like "not my best, but I wanted to share it... oh and I think technically it's a world record!". As it is, how you've presented it could be interpreted as you saying, 'I'm better than you, without even trying that hard', which is something no self-respecting person wants to hear. I think we should all remember that, as proven by anthony gatto's 7 ball record video, most people, even kids, would need to be paid to watch a world record juggling run. But only if there was nothing else to do.

Hey guys, I've got a new video:

Pink Shorts
Pink Shorts
Pink Shorts (Juggling.tv)

Sadly there's no diabolo, so I guess it's less relevant; But don't worry, I'm still mostly practicing diabolo!

It's "Shifty" from the Album "Pinocchio" by Cirkestra: http://new.music.yahoo.com/cirkestra/tracks/shifty--183286275
I'm pretty sure it's available on iTunes.

Amazing.  Awesome music, editing, production, filming, and, of course, diaboloing.  I'm glad the world finally knows about you :D.

What kind of sticks do you use? Henrys Carbon? They seem a little bit heavier than normal.

Nope, just simple short Henry's Carbon with some white electrical tape.  Thanks again for all the positive comments everybody!

Thanks for all the great comments everyone!

Are you guys around in the summer in the UK or are you headed back stateside?

Jacob will be back in the US street performing through the end of July, then we'll be performing at the Edinburgh Fringe in August then back to the States for both of us.

What did you study in Cambridge? Diabolo :-D?

Haha, nope.  Jacob's doing physics, I'm getting my master's in Engineering for Sustainable Development.

So good.  I've been hoping to see some more true acro diabolo tricks, loved the back flip with the release to whip.  Great editing and videography too.  Seemed like a whole range of cameras, what'd you use for the high fps shots?  And are those acro-diabolo tricks solid enough to make it into the show this summer?

The convention was amazing. Had a really nice time.
The diabolo level was beyond belief, you missed out guys  ;)

Agreed.  It was great to finally meet some of you we had never met before.  Great food, great weather, and great diaboloists.  The siteswap shirt session was great, as was just hanging out and fooling around.  Crazy that these days you can walk into the gym and see literally a handful of people having successful attempts/runs of 4...

Sean said it well.  The videography is great, and provides a lot of good ideas on how to well frame a diabolo video. Well done Tobi.

Great filming!  Good use of manual focus and a shallow depth of field.  What camera did you use, and how did you get such smooth pans?

Great video all around.  I think these videos will provide snapshots of each year in diabolo, giving a great look into the evolution of diabolo years from now.  Arjan, it's great to see the stuff that's coming out of your work at school (I assume).  I wish more people would focus on diabolo at circus schools, there's so much more out there!  Jesse, good work on the massive editing job.

Also, to settle the MA/UK debate, the Sharpe Brothers are in Cambridge, UK for the year attending Cambridge University.  We grew up in MA.  My clip was filmed in Cambridge, UK, and the double string sprinkler was actually filmed in Stavanger, Norway.

General / Re: Diabolo Video Names
« on: December 14, 2009, 01:59:04 AM »
Wheels - Common English translation of diabolo from other languages is "twin wheel", and the music track was "Wheels" by Cake.

B# - A funny word play on our name, incorporated into a common saying.

Sharpe Attack! - Same as above.

In general, just using the name of the song in my opinion is a little lame, and there are issues with copyright infringement some times.  A title that hints at the song, artist, setting, tricks, and/or mood is the best way to go in my opinion.  As Sean said, the more unique, applicable, and memorable it is the better.
