Something that might help;

Next time your silicone grip comes off, scratch the hell out of the aluminium where the silicone would be with a file, corse abrasive paper or a wire brush.  Scratch up the surface so whatever glue you use can key to the metal.  Hairspray does work, but a spray glue like Spray Mount or 3M Multi Purpose would be better.  The trouble with epoxy or polyester resins is that they are brittle and if the grip can move a bit, over time the resin will crack away and not hold.

Contact adhesives like Evo-Stik are really good.  Apply a thin layer to the aluminium, turn the grip inside out and a thin layer on there.  Allow to dry for 15 minutes, then roll the silicone onto the tube like you would put on a duvet cover/stockings/condom.  When you roll it on, the glued outside becomes the inside and sticks together.  I will say that I've not done this with MB sticks so I don't know if the silicone has enough stretch to achieve this, but it does work with my sticks (which are only 8mm in diameter and use devilstick silicone).

Hopefully that'll sort someone out.

I think you can see how things are merging together anyway.  Yabe's style seems to have taken on some European influences that are visible now that weren't a few years ago.  Same with Liang, which is understandable as they travel around and learn the different skills in different areas, everything becomes more homogenous.  Taking the best from each area and adding them all together.

And it'd be useful to learn Mandarin anyway, we'll all be speaking it eventually.

Where are you guys thinking of going in London?  I've got a work thing that day in Wimbledon so could swing by if there's time.  Seeing as I've not diaboloed in ages.

That's the one, UFO grind is the grind inside the cup during vertax.  If you can get a point inside the hex slot, tends to spin alot longer.

There's a real skill to oratory and public speaking, reading poetry can be done well or badly, it's just a different skill.

Of course, I wasn't there and have no idea of the circumstances, it's just an appreciation of different talents.  String breakage can really put you out of your stride though.

Tricks / Re: exiting the sfan hyperloop

I think a new exit is helpful if you can't get a grip on the previous one, lots of ways to skin a cat.  This might also be useful if you mess up the exit and need another way out.  Seems to work really well in my opinion, if you can consistently get it work then super.

That's a cracking beginning and ending to a video.  And the stick swap trick at 4:40 was my favourite.

Man, I'm so out of comprehending the new stuff.

Tricks / Re: Infinite suicides

It adds speed, up to a point.  During the wrapping, the upwards pull of the string is what adds speed, you then rewrap the diabolo so you can pull up again to maintain the speed.  If you're finding almost no spin left, it's most likely a technique issue and you're not focussing on the up pull but on the wrapping of the string around the axle.

Nice smooth upward pulls and then a quick wrap.  Does that help?

Performing / Re: Competition tricks
« on: April 07, 2009, 11:13:00 AM »
Just a few background questions:
What is the competition for?  What type of competition is it?  How long do you have to perform?  Why do you think diabolo is the best way to win?

Performing is well discussed on these forums, so a read through a few previous threads should get you the general information you need.  But I can understand wanting to have some personal advice.

It's all about the string.  I can see alot more string being used up by people trying to emulate.

Hard stuff, seriously hard stuff.

Good gracious, that was intense.  How are those diabolos still spinning sometimes!  Seems like chaos sometimes that happens to return to a shuffle.  Love it all though, I am in such awe at the level you guys have risen to.  Favourite part was the little pass at 5:02.

I feel you could have split the video into two parts and we would have all been suitably impressed for a while and you could rest and post the other half a month down the line.  Great stuff, I am well out of my depth.

Super!  Some nice looking tricks packed into there.  Though, why release a trailer and not just wait for the final thing?  Unless the final is ten minutes long, a one minute trailer would have shown alot of the content.

Still, this is your video and I applaud you for it.  Hope to see it soon.

Just to let you guys know, Southern Railway have £3 Advance Single train tickets between London Victoria and Brighton.  From a look, it seems like it's all times of the day, no changes and you can buy them now and pick up at the station.  As with all Advance stuff, might expire tomorrow or the day before.

So for those that want to travel up from Brighton, you can race Mark.

However, a ride-on diabolo...  He might be onto something.

Though really, actual pegs are much too heavy for a diabolo.  What benefits do you think could be achieved with metal hubstacks over the current nylon (?) ones?

I was just thinking that an accumulation of topics in this vein would pile up in the forum and unsuspecting members would search for terms and come across threads like this and be all confused.

Disclaimers are useful.

My circuses kicked Finesse out of the park and I'll stick by them always.  May have to resort to using my signed ones now though :-S

The brilliant thing about them all is that if you don't like it, you can change it back to how it was via the plug-n-play functionality of the nut and bolt.  Do have fun though!

Love the shotgun effect, executed with class.

And I thought Duncan has mistaken a rather obvious dog, for a cat, but I waited till I had watched the whole thing before making comment.

How do you patent a PE beanbag?  I'm all for new toys, but maybe batting a hoop with a stick will remain king.

This was not what I was expecting from the title though, but I've seen it now, you can't unsee it!
