Tricks / Re: SiteSwap and Suns
« on: November 08, 2006, 11:14:34 AM »
For pirouette it is quite easy to understand:

We have:
2233022 high = 40406060004040 low
2242022 high = 40408040004040 low
33444033 high = 6060808080006060 low

So, in high SS you need a 0 to do a pirouette, in low notation this 0 becomes 00 and with the additional 0 due to the previous throw, you finaly need 000 to do your pirouette.

Another explanation by Jacob has been given on this forum before:

in low siteswap, as zero means a space in the pattern, not no diabolos on the string. if you do 4440, there is a diabolo on the string at all times. with 55500, you only have 1 beat to do the pirrouette with, which is half the time you have for 4440 in three high, as beats in high are twice as long as low beats. so 666000 only makes sense.

For the suns that’s a bit different:

1D sun:
In high notation a sun is 1, according to the rule N high = (2N) low, It should be 20. However, as you keep your diabolo on your string during the two beats of the sun, it's more accurate to describe the sun by 11.

2d and 3d suns:
First, we have to clarify, that we talk about suns started with your left hand (for right handed people) without set-up throw; some people call them “one turn of fan”.
Second, that comes from an observation: In low notation, it happens that a 2d (or a 3d) sun is only 1 beat long (twice shorter than a 1d sun) and every 2d (or 3d) sun can be replaced by a 2 (or a 3) in a site swap.
However, as I said before, we have to keep in mind that a 2D-sun (3D-sun) does not modifiy the order of the diabolos involved in the sun and that's why we have to specify it by a “*” or a “s” cause it is not really a 2 (or 3).
(This "*" is a bit like the "x" in vanilla siteswap or when a hurried throw is identified by a "*")

:o :) :o :) Great great video, I have been waiting for a video like that since feel-good and Twoloose!

(PS: I edited a list of what I call DS4 (DiaboloSiteSwapwithSunS) for Priam, and you passed some of the hardest of this list. As for me, I am working on the "easiest" one (60)50602s5(60) but your (60)50702s611s2s(3) is simply awesome and spendid !!!! )

Very well done Jacob !!!!  :o  :) :o  :D

You done it exactly like my DSSSS guy:

Fan, I believe Ryo yabe claims that.
Was Ryo the guy on doing the fan ?
I learned this trick 6 or 7 years ago from this bloody GIF (unfortunately, that was the one video of a fan available)

I still find imperial much easier for measuring distances, except if they're small distances, in which case millimetres are much more convenient.
I do believe that a distance exprimed in imperial system means much more for you than a distance exprimed in metric system, as you are used to it.

But to find it much easier, I have a doubt, when we know that:
1mile=1760yards=5280feet=63360inches and

Try maybe to make a nicer move with your left hand. I use to have that problem too, it was because my left hand, at unwrap, was doing a too strong move. Unwrap smoothed with your right hand and be more smooth with your left hand.
It worked for me ;).
Oh, It sounds like Jonat's been a good teacher :) (But he had a good teacher too ;D)
You should come to Jonglargonne one of these days to show us that.  ;)

Just had a splendid practice session.
Congratulation :)
Something about 3 low siteswaps has started to make sense - I think it's that I'm getting better at watching the high throws instead of keeping my eyes down and hoping they'll land somewhere near me.
As a general rule in low SS, I would say :
1) Try to have an overall view of the patern (if you can) in order to anticipate a not perfect throw.
2) try to have an eye on the diabolo you going to catch next beat.

I've just managed to do 333455040333 and 3334512333 for the first time and a few times more.
I worked on these siteswap too. But they are a bit "bastard" (probably not the good word, I dont know how to say it in english), as it is hard to keep and make out the beat on the the 0s and the 1s (you see what i mean?)
However they are good to get used to 3low-3high et 3H-3L transitions. But they are much more interesting with one, two or three "60" inside them (even if you dont have a solid 3High).  ;)
Managed three rounds of 42 - seems like that might get there soon, but I don't like it much (I'll like it if I get it to run though).
I agree  ;)

As for me, I finally manage to do a pirouette under 3H diabolos and come back into (a more or less) regular pattern  :)

1.95 m which makes something like 6.40 ft.
I think you have to say 6'5''
Bloody anglo-saxon system!!! and God bless french people who invented metric system  ;D ;D ;D (just laughing)

cheers  ;)

So that's (60)80706000(3) ... and that's really impressive!!  :)

I tried 666000 or 55500 today, and it was really hard (just once, didn't pursue it). I think I could definitely do (60)80808000112(3) in a few tries, as my pirrouettes are solid and my (60)112(3) is solid, but (60)80706000(3) would be extremely hard to do clean.

yabe does  6060601122   i think

but it could be 6060605040333

those are off the top of my head so may be wrong

do you have the link of the video? cause your siteswap are surely wrong...
as 6060605040333 is the common transition from 3high to 3low, so you can't do a pirouette  ???
and 6060601122 doesn't mean anything  ::)

About its siteswap "55500" or "666000", that's a good question!  Cause if at first, a pirouette seems to be done on a "00", it happens that every pirouettes in 2high and 3high are actually done on a "000" in low notation. so  ???

i'm pretty sure that just a 0 is a pirouette for high, and 00 would be it for low. of course, you could do as many 0's as you want to give you time, but still...

I mean:
2233022 high = 40406060004040 low
2242022 high = 40408040004040 low
33444033 high = 6060808080006060 low

Even though I don't have Shapes' skills, I would I think exactly like him... and btw, I'd love to see how look a pirouette in a actual 3 low, that must be awesome  :o

About the difficulty of 5511: As for me, the main difficulty come from the fact that I naturally do a left-1D-sun that occurs not to be that natural after all... you see what I mean?

Tricks / SiteSwap and Suns
« on: September 16, 2006, 11:36:32 AM »

I haven’t written anything on this forum for a while. (nor read it steadily actually   )
But I’m shocked when I read someone says he does a “72222” or siteswap mistakes of that kind when suns are involved. And I can’t take it anymore.

It has been admited that, in conventional diabolo siteswap low notation, a 1D-sun is a “11” whereas 2D-sun and 3D-sun are respectively “2” and “3”. By using that, we respect all the usual beats and heights of the existing notation.

However, we have to keep in mind that 2D-sun and 3D-sun do not modifiy the order of the diabolos involved in the sun and that's why we have to specify it by a “*”, a “s” or a “sun”

5511 is the siteswap of “2up-1Dsun”
42sun or 42s or 42* is “1up-2Dsun”
52*2* is “1up-double2Dsun
333 42*3* 333 is “feed the sun”
333 3*42* 333 is “unfeed the sun”
3*3*3* is a triple3Dsun (without setup-throw between each one.) whereas 3*33*33*3 is three consecutive 3Dsuns with a setup-throw between each one.

Other exemples:

On this vidéo (produced by Petit Lu)
Zack does  333 3*342*33* 3333
whereas Tahia does 333 42*3*42* 333

PS: Many other french diabolists agree with that notation (such as Priam, Tahia, Fred, JiBe, etc...).

PS: We could use other rational notations (respecting  beats, heights and order of the diabolos) to describe suns with siteswap .However, they are heavy, complex and not meaningful at all, as they have to consider the time spend on the string and the time spend in the air.

I hope I conviced most of you of using this notation, and I not gonna read ”72222” for “1up-double2Dsun” anymore. (as you definitly have to throw a 5 if you want to do a 2D-doublesun )

If you have any questions about that, it would be my pleasure to answer them.

oh, forgot to mention it, but that is by far the best devil sticking I've ever seen. I mean, i'm a diaboloist, so I don't know what I'm talking about, but holy crap that stuff was sweet.

Indeed! ... and Capitaine Buisson haven't filmed his two devil sticks routine, which is amazing !! (his name is Fab, by the way)

I also have tape on my hand sticks.
But the only reason was to recognize mine among the other's, actually.
Cause almost every other diabolists have the same paire of aluminium sticks with yellow string than mine in my juggling club (and we are quite a lot of diabolists in Bordeaux   )

Hi Guy

Yes, i'm back to Bordeaux (there's a really good juggling club here too, with Priam, Codfish, and many others). And you, are you still in your "Yoyo-period"? (and Aza must have an amazing level by the time)

Anywy, the one i wanna throw higher go to the right and only the next one fly out to the left actually. (I understood it later)
