Looks like I might be the only diabolo player who uses this forum going to Moyo?! So anyway Moyo States is a yoyo contest and a diabolo contest in St. Louis. We will be giving away 10 diabolos this Saturday. I am posting a link to an example of Chris Sabatino's diabolo artwork that will be done at the contest for the players in town. Chris has a website with other work if you want a peek check out

Finesse 3!! Airbrushed by St. Louis local grafitti artist Chris Sabatino! This will be prize support for the Diabolo Freestyle contest coming up at Moyo! Sneak preview of kickin prizes! p.s. comes with light kit but anyway what do you think? It has a gloss finish so if you use it the graphics should last awhile.

Mad props to Richard Kennison for putting this contest together! There was not a separate division for juggling or diabolo just the top 3 crowd favorites. The top three each received $300 in cash prizes! ;D

top 3
Cameron Ritter /juggling
Casey Boehmer /juggling
Shane Smith /diabolo

I'm sorry to say I haven't read your entire post Sottle (mainly because I don't understand all the yo-yo terms), but I wanted to reply to what I get from the first few paragraphs.

I disagree ;D Although you are probably right, I don't think it's to take apart the entire video, telling him all of his tricks are rubbish. I think it's great to enter the diabolo game from a yo-yo perspective. I applaud keeping away from trying to do the same thing everybody else does (go to any popular diabolo website for beginners and learn the basic tricks). Instead, learn the prop by using the experience you have with an other prop (in this case yo-yo). Most diabolists (or at least me) only pick up on these next level tricks after doing the same stuff over and over again. I think it's quite great what MoYo shows us here. A different perspective, concept crossover exploring and style is what makes this video interesting. Having a yo-yo background, the tricks in the video might look boring or old, but you have to realise that this yo-yo crossover thing it's quite new in diabolo, or at least only gained popularity during the last year or so.

Therefore, I found it inspiring. edit: ok - the video angles were quite bad.

I totally agree what this video lacks it makes up for in style and personality. Shane doesn't really yoyo, I know when he is at the MoYo meets he comes to diabolo. It is fun to see Shane make stuff up on the spot based on who he is surrounded by.  8)

What is a diabolo?

Community & Events / St Louis Juggling and Diabolo contest
« on: September 04, 2008, 10:59:32 AM »
The 17th annual Jugglers showcase competition is on Saturday September 13, 1pm at the outdoor amphitheater in New Town, MO.

Each performer has up to 12 minutes to show their stuff. NOTE: A short clean act will always be better than 12 minutes of repetition, multiple drops and repeated attempts at a trick you have only hit once in the gym. We can play CDs. Acts go in random order.

Three judges will be picked randomly out of the audience. They pick three winners-each of who recieve $300.00.

There is a one time entrance fee of $20.00.

370 to New town Blvd(North)

1 mile.5 Right on New Town Drive

go straight (a few jogs) and you will come to the outdoor amphitheater.
