General / Re: How did you start diabolo?
« on: July 09, 2010, 04:43:49 AM »
So one day, we found an old Chinese yoyo in the closet. I saw it and was like, "Hey that's that yoyo thing I've seen a few times." I thought it was pretty cool, so I gave it a go. It was infuriatingly difficult due to the design of the yoyo. Did some searching online for tutorials, and after maybe a good 6 hours, I could finally keep it going. It was pretty sweet, and then I started learning tricks like trapezes, tosses, and grinds. Up to that point I had never touched a diabolo, so I didn't know the feeling of being able to do consecutive tricks without stopping to speed up my diabolo. I got really in to it and managed to snag some fixed Shinings. I was amazed at them; it was like a whole new world. I've been using my Shinings for about a year now, learning and learning. Don't worry about not learning quickly, I still can't do vertax, nor can I correct 2d.  ;)

Gear / Warped Cups and Taibolos.
« on: November 14, 2009, 07:39:29 PM »
Hi all,

After a few high drops, my Sundia Light Suns are no longer perfectly circular.  As of now, the only way I have found to fix this is hoping for another high drop to cancel the warping from the previous drops.  Trying to bend it back with my hands doesn't do anything because it slowly springs back to its warped position.  Any tips on fixing this?

Also, on the topic of the Taibolo, does it scratch/scuff as easily as the Light Suns?  Will the cups warp like those of the Light Suns upon high drops?

Made a high toss and miscalculated the catch.  It scratched me under the nose and now I have dermatitis.  :(

Yo mama's so fat that she orbits diabolos around her body in vertax without sticks or string!

Just thought it would be fun to have yo mama jokes about diabolo stuff.  :-D

Post them all here.

Yo mama's so fat that she has to play 2d high to shuffle her diabolos around her leg.

Light Suns FTW! But then again, they are the only ones I've played with other than the Chinese yo-yo.  I've tried someone else's Finesse (forgot what G) but not enough for a vote change.  They seem nice though.

Tricks / Re: New Trick?

the description says it wraps the forearm before going under the axle. so it wouldn't fall...
but it's not really a new trick like a 'brand new trick idea'.  I'd say it's just a little combo

Ah, I see... Thanks anyways!

Tricks / New Trick?

The other day, I was doing a Chinese Suicide, and the stick missed my hand and went under the axle.  This inspired me to try a new kind of loop and hook.  My trick is: a Chinese Suicide, but let the string wrap around your forearm when the stick comes around.  The stick goes under the axle and up, catch it with your left hand.  Hand the stick to your right hand so you have both sticks in the right hand.  Take the loop of string from your forearm and put it over the tips of the sticks.  Toss and (whip) catch.
I like to call it the Chinese Loop and Hook. :-D
Is it a new trick?

Gear / Re: Sundia String Becoming Fuzzy
« on: September 03, 2009, 05:39:26 AM »
Strangely, rubbing the string on my neck does work!  :-D  Thanks for the tips, and I will try and get my hands on some Henry's Yellow after I use up my roll of Sundia string that I already had.

Gear / Sundia String Becoming Fuzzy
« on: September 01, 2009, 12:02:48 AM »
After playing for a while with Sundia string, it develops a sort of fuzz around the most used areas (middle, right side) that snags up and prevents the string from moving when doing stuff like Climb-the-String or Wrap Acceleration for 2d.  Any tips on how to reduce or remove the fuzz without getting new string?

Tricks / Getting Into Vertax With Horizontal Power Whips???
« on: August 21, 2009, 07:43:40 PM »
I was looking through and I found instructions for the Excalibur Grind.  This is what I used in my attempt at learning vertax.  However, this trick uses Horizontal Power Whips instead of the Chinese Whips that everyone else apparently uses.  Now whenever I try doing the Chinese Whips, it tangles up.  Thus, I have decided to only do the Horizontal Power Whips from now on.  Is there anything I should know about doing vertax with this method that differs from the method with Chinese Whips?

I just got some of the light Suns, and they are awesome!  Well, considering it was an upgrade from a single Chinese yo-yo...  But they're still cool!

Pardon the noobishness, but when I try the between-the-arms suns in either direction, it doesn't speed up the yo-yo OR get it into vertax.  It just slowly dies out.  :(  Any tips on transitioning into vertax?

Could you elaborate on the Asian style vertax a bit more, please?  I'm afraid I'm not understanding what you mean by reverse catch.  Thanks.

Is vertax possible with a Chinese Yo-Yo (the barbell one that whistles)?
