Community & Events / 5th Annual Cleveland Circus!
« on: August 31, 2016, 03:02:22 PM »
Hey everyone!

I just wanted to give a quick plug for the Cleveland Circus which will be taking place in exactly a month from now! If you are from the US and especially if you are in the midwest you should really try to come out! While the fest is awesome regardless, I wouldn't normally post a juggling festival on this forum, however, a graduate in diabolo from the École de cirque de Québec (and who was also recently hired by Cirque du Soleil!) is going to be there both running workshops and also performing so it should be a great place for a diaboloist to be! My club already has a couple diaboloists and I know a few more from michigan and possibly New York will be coming so if you can make it you should definitely come! Hopefully you will learn some stuff and have fun, and plus its super cool meeting other diaboloists around the area! If you want to come and need crash space, shoot me a message on here and we should definitely be able to help you out!

When:
Friday September 30, 2016 5 PM - Sunday October 2, 2016 3 PM (gym opens at 10 am and closes at midnight)
Show Saturday October 1, 2016 7:30 PM

Where:
Carlton Commons
11892 Carlton Rd
Cleveland Heights, OH 44106

Hey! So there are TONS of people SIGNIFICANTLY more qualified at answering this than me so take this with a grain of salt.

I think the sun is definitely a good one to start with, It's definitely tough at first but focus on keeping your hands close together to help stop one from wrapping and I'd say really focus on trying to use the natural momentum of the yoyos to get the sun instead of just forcing it.

I think a really good trick would be vortex (great tutorial + variations here http://juggling.tv/1169#id=http://juggling.tv/nuevo/econfig.php?key=a7676cf665225e236a3d)
It definitely builds your control of two and it's not a super complex trick (although it definitely takes a bit to get used to) and from there you can also link it to so many other tricks like fan and all sorts of other variations like in the video.

Also lastly, less so tricks but still good things to practice and help you gain control, would be 1) popping one up out of the pattern and then catching it back in 2) being able to easily wrap and unwrap the diabolo and stalling it in a trapeze

Also, I'm pretty sure there is a 2 diabolo thread somewhere on here that you should definitely check out :)

1. How many years have you diaboloed for? Difficult to say... did it somewhat for probly 4 years but really got into it this past august

2. What or who got you started? Played with a traditional noise making one at my cousins house

3. What do you like best about the diabolo or juggling in general? Such a simple object yet unlimited possibilities!

4. How many hours a day do you diabolo on average? 2 hours

5. Do you ever perform with the diabolo? With my school's club yea

6. Do you juggle other props? If so: balls, clubs, rings, cigar boxes, devil sticks... ? Balls Clubs and a tiny bit of poi

7. What are your favourite diabolos, sticks, and string? Only ever really used Sundia fly single bearings and solids

8. Do you like working with 1, 2, or 3 diabolos the best? Working on 2 but I'd say that I still probably like 1 diabolo the most

9. What is your favourite diabolo trick that you can do? Don't really have one but probably the monorail to a mini genocide exit?

10. What is the most amazing diabolo trick you've ever seen done? Difficult to say... I feel like it's usually not a trick but like the fluidity of a diaboloist that really grabs me!

11. What tricks are driving you nuts right now (what are you working on)? 2 diabolooooo, got the shuffle and correcting mostly down (finally) now I'm working on learning some more tricks

12. What other diaboloists have inspired you?[/url] Jarle and Harvard Bergo are two of my favorites! So smooth and so innovative! and great cinematography to top it off!
