After a few calls with pete @ Letshavefun.biz he's talked to suppliers, and it turns out it's a batch issue (I think it was one of their moulds). He's asked for mine back, and i Babache are sending him new stock.
If you want to buy them from somewhere, he is selling new stock at the same price.

Gear / Re: Diabolo Review Rubric?
« on: August 05, 2007, 06:59:57 PM »
It seems like a formatting program that has specific fields for all of the characteristics Martjin mentioned would be helpful. That way you would have the same fields for all diabolos and it would be much easier for a newbie to compare before he or she chose.

It wouldn't be too hard with dream weaver, but i don't have the software because it's expensive.

P.s. do a handstick and string review too?

Cheers for that Pete.

The Play Festival is pretty close to me so I think I'll be there, hope to see some more diaboloists though.

i've heard there are a LOT of diaboloists there.

Gear / Finesse G3 cold weld production fault
« on: July 19, 2007, 08:51:58 PM »
my new G3s arrived today. I fitted them with finger axles but while i was doing so, I noticed that on the one side counter-cone (the black disks with the nuts that you screw light kits etc. into) there was a crack running from nut to nut through the axle hole on the side that touches the cup (side facing centre). This crack is present in both of the diabolos i bought, but only in one of the counter-cones of each diabolo.

My initial thought was that i'd broken them during a drop, but when i asked my dad (who is "in the know" about injection moulding and polymers he told me he thought that during the injection process, the plastic had met in the middle and not stuck together properly before cooling. This means you get a weak bond where the plastic meets and it cracks when the plastic shifts during cooling.
The most worrying thing is that the crack is very similar in both diabolo's counter-cones.
It could be that the two counter cones are moulded in two seperate moulds for one diabolo, and one of the two moulds has a fault.

I rang Pete at letshavefun.biz to tell him about my problem. He said he was shocked that there was a fault with the counter cones and there was no problem replacing them for me. He said he would check through some of his stock to see if this problem has recurred, and if it does; whether it is just this batch with this problem.

I sincerely hope this isn't a fault with Babache's moulds, as it could mean bad things for the company's release.

If i could ask any G3 owners to check their counter cones for cracks anywhere, not just between the screws, as a cold weld could happen anywhere technically.

thanks

I tend to either force it back down the way it came up or do a UFO grind and point the stick to the side so the diabolo get off balance and starts tilting (from there pretty straight forward).

Dan

This method i've founf is also good for getting a good UFO exit, because it's easier to re-wrap your diabolo into vertax

Nice video, but i'd much prefer to see it without all the crap the Chinese T.V. companies block your view with.

I suppose it's just their style.

yeah.. im not sure i have seen these girls before but i surely have seen that style and acrobatics and passing routines..

they are good, but who design their show is pretty lazy. i like to see what they would do if they drop critical moment.. that would be intresting..

Might've seen it in cirque du soleil?
I'd rather see one good diaboloist do some technical stuff than syncronised swimming

hmm, i've got about 35 seconds finger grind, maybe i'll film it sometime.

Hiow long can you do under the leg's for> that'd be a mammoth endurance challenge.

You could add endurance inside/outside(arm suns to the one diabolo too, i suppose

I really liked that video, it wasn't too in-your-face but it showed some awesome stuff. I've gotta get myself some elastic string, does anyone know what elastic stuff is good for diabolo string?

Hey! don't be so hard on yourself, that was an awesome display of tricks. I especially liked the juggling near the beginning.

The video isn't that short, but i reckon you would do a lot better without the effects. There is enough interest in your tricks without getting your audience to tilt their heads to watch you perform.

nice work though

I'm speculating fairly wildly, but i could be to counteract the fact that the nuts in the centre aren't in a uniform place as the diabolo spins, meaning it'll wobble a lot more at low speeds?

I can see the idea behind hitting yourself with a high speed diabolo, because although friction burns don't seem like they will be painful, they often are after a while.

I've also noticed that many people contort their body when they diabolo so that unnecessary strains are put on themselves (be that neck, back or shoulders). I'd imagine loosening off, stretching and video-taping yourself to see if you are doing anything strange might help solve those problems.

I think we should just ban accounts without warning. They can make another account if they choose and hopefully this time they think before they post (i would have been banned a looong time ago if it was like this but yeh..).

And delete the repetitive threads.  There are arnt many topics getting posted recently that i find interesting. So i spend most of my time re-reading old threads.

If you were to do this, you could have a repetitive banning result in an entire IP ban, so that the person couldn't get a new account
