i do not need this explained to me! i know the rules. as sean already stated quite clearly you get more points for 4! get back on topic

lz

You clearly do need it explained to you, you clearly don't know the rules, and i am clearly pissed off as i rarely make a contribution to this forum (and even more rarely in a genuinely pissed off state!).

You get more points for doing 4, yes, because it's another discipline. Like if you did just 1 diabolo, you would get more points if you did 1 AND 2, NOT if you just did 2. You will get more points with doing 4, than if you did 1, 2 and 3... because you are showing you practice a variety of areas.  There are no where near enough points in 4 alone for anyone to win without doing everything else. We judged it like we did, to find the best all-round player (hence Ryo's addition of the vertax).  I don't know how else to explain it...
If someone does a hard, and entertaining 1-3 diabolo routine, and someone else does an easier and boring 1-3 diabolo routine, but does 4 at the end.. the first routine would win. If both routines were pretty much the same, but 1 person did 4 and the other didnt, then that person would get those extra points and win.  But really it was such a small amount of points that on its own would be almost worthless.

Read my other post.

Yeah, that would be a good idea... if your post was right!

It's 'Music Happy Diabolo'.  I'd guess (yes thats right, im not entirely sure) its a result of a less than perfect translation. Probably sounds a lot better in Taiwanese, but sounds super cool in English.

Oh, and it's not that obvious.  Although he probably did, and it would probably save a lot of time, it really doesnt take a lot to speed up a diabolo the wrong way yourself.  Especially if you are comfortable playing with the left hand as well (which i know Ryo is, and i am sure William must be)

As for you Tetsu... wow! Your style is so beautiful.  Such speed and power, with super high technical level.  I love vertax, and you i think i now also love you..!

Thanks!

wjf is only judged from a jugglers perspective. you can do 4 high you win! ******* ********!

I see why Jason gets so pissed off now! People make huge assumptions with **** all basis, and claim it as fact!
Do your homework before you go slagging things off.

WJF1 was judged by 3 diabolists and a very in-depth scoring system.

WJF2 was a touch funky, and i basically gave everyone a score based on their pre-lim routine. Then the final score was adapted according to whether it was better or worse than the pre-lims.

WJF3 I've no idea, i had nothing to do with it.

WJF-UK was judged by me, as best i could.  Judging people on style, performance, tech skill, variety (1/2/3/vertax) and then deductions on corrections/tangles/drops (basically as close as i could get it to WJF1, without the spreadsheet)

I think each time a very accurate score was given. People may complain about WJF1 results.  But the tech levels were similar (but very different styles) and Ryo ****ed up a whole lot more, whereas Antonin was fine until a ropey 3high.  Of course, it may not have been perfect, but it was the first attempt.

As for nahxela, according to current rules (ok, what i would use if i was judging it) i'd give a point to the variety column (2d-vertax would count as a separate discipline in my eyes), a point to the tricks columns, and then probably a point in the deductions column.  Obviously i've no idea what each of those points would be worth out of 10, i'd have to work that out with percentages and stuff.

Uhh... yeah.

Does that A stand for American?  you have tons of huge ones.  I can't believe you said WJF!  I will give you flack for that now before someone else does more seriously. IJA would be a better contender as it's bigger and been around a whole lot longer!  Not to mention all the others.

And there is very little chance of WJF staying in the same place for 2 years now, Jason is more on the case about moving it around  (come on, everyone complain that it hasnt come to their country)

k, i'm done.

Hey Sean.  I'll be heading up Thursday morning (very late for me! i normally would have gone on saturday [2 days ago] but i have a lot to do at home first).  Pop into the kidz field (2 fields up from the outdoor circus field) and ask at the office for me.  I'll be around on thursday and might be able to tell you when i'm performing. There will defo be plenty of good players at the fest, hanging out (unless it pisses down!).  And some awesome performances happening in the big top, I often just go and sit in there for 12 hours straight.

So yeah, although it's probably too late for you to read this, come up to the kidz field sometimes around midday thursday (that applies for everyone) or anytime during the day on the weekend.

Holy hell!
The 1-2 stuff was pretty boring and samey.  The 3 was better than before but no major breakthrough (a kid at BJC did harder siteswaps on stage in the British Young Juggler comp [yes, you Pete).  But my god that 4 was crazy-go-nuts.

I was however a little annoyed as to the fact he was using my old routine music... then after that used my more recent routine music!  Luckily i have recently made a new routine, and i very much doubt Tony will use that for diabolo!

Oh man, from the title i was expecting a routine in a wicked yellow thing.. like in Enter the Dragon!  You should totally do that some time.

Otherwise, nice, well done.  I agree that the stage was super dark, but it did kinda fit.

Well it's mainly for people who started with Chinese Yoyos, and came to diaboloing, since a majority of the Chinese yoyo tricks are named from mainly literal translations (or just romanizations) of the Chinese trick names.

right, but how does it help anyone?
The idea is to name all the tricks, and what they are also called.  A huge list of tricks wont help the crossover if they have no idea what they are.

Or am i missing something.  Can someone help me.

Perfect use of music, very well edited indeed.  Great shot composition. Very nice demonstration of all the possibilities with them, and how good each one looks.  Some rather good tech diabolo shizzle in there too.  A brilliant watch!

Now i need to sleep!

Am i wrong, or is that list totally pointless?
Isnt the idea to name a bunch of tricks, and then all the other possible names for them?
how is just a long list of tricks going to help anyone with that?

Tricks / Re: Stage Pirouettes
« on: April 25, 2007, 09:52:57 AM »

Whups! Sorry Norbi. It makes sense to me. Anybody came up with any ideas for a 3 stage yet?

Did you read my first post?

Tricks / Re: Stage Pirouettes
« on: April 24, 2007, 01:37:27 PM »

Yeah. I only consider an 'x' stage pirouette if 'x' pirouettes are done before the first diabolo thrown is caught again.

That was my first wording... then realized about x stage pirouettes which start with 34... In which it's the second diabolo thrown which needs to be caught to end the stages.

SO - Amount of stages* before all diabolos from the initial set of throws are caught.
*stages being separated by a catch, and/or throw.

I think that make sense...

Good to see Norbi is back on the forum. Haven't seen a post from him in a while.

Thanks!  It's rare that i find anything remotely interesting worth posting about.  Throw siteswaps and 360s at me and you have my full attentions  :)

Right benny boy, listen up and listen good.

I guess you realized that 'cntrl clicking and downloading' is 'control+click and download linked file'.  Just thought i'd check that first.  Then make sure the file you are downloading is called 'william_1d_overarmswhip.mp4', then pick a place to save it, and do so (for example, your desktop).

Now it may be sitting on your desktop.  If at this point (or the point above) there is a .txt after the .mp4, then remove that simply by just clicking on the name of the file and deleting the .txt from the end.  It will probably ask you if you want to keep .txt or replace with .mp4, obviously in this case change to .mp4

If this still doesnt open in Quicktime, try playing in old faithful VLC (download for free at www.videolan.org/vlc ).

If, for some reason it still doesnt work... tell me.

Warning, this will be thoughts as they come into my head... so could be long, and i may say the same thing a million times.

Ok.  With diabolos it's a bit weird and harder to work out than juggling, because you cant really hold onto things whilst spinning, which is what makes a split pirouette.

So i would say the diabolo definition is how ever many 'stage' or different spins, until the very last one from the original thrown set, is caught... what?

WELL... in 34030 the first set of throws is 34, then you start spinning, you then throw up a 3 to make the second spin, and then you will have caught everything from the first throw.
Whereas... in 3404030 you can run the 40 for as long as you want, so could do infinite stage pirouettes.
So then something like 62020 or 52030, they are both 2stages as they include both stages before catching an original throw.
Something like 3602030 would be a valid 3stage, for the same reason. As you complete all 3 stages before the 6 comes down.
However i would personally not count 360205020 as a 4stage, because all of the original set of throws have been caught before the 4th stage.

Another thing to take into account are 360 suns.  For example 3401.  If you 360 sunned the '1' then that would be a 2stage.  The same rule about the initial throws count, but i thought i'd just throw it in there as something else to think about.

Now some basis for my thinking.  In juggling 779227722 is a 2stage, 7799b00227722 is a 3stage.  Both of which are done before the highest one is caught.  779227922792279227722 is not a 5stage, it's just you running 7922 with an entry of 7 and exit of 7722 (as with the {3} 40 {30} mentioned above).

You don't have to agree with me.  Those are just my thoughts.

There are exceptions, and clever people will notice these and prove i am wrong.  Until then, i win.

For information.
Jibe Has completly stopped diabolo.
He is now working on clubs passing.
And I have met him and he told me that he had never runned a 3 low.

interesting... how long ago did you meet him?  I know he's pretty much ditched diabolo now... but when i saw him in Ptuj he was running 3 low a little bit. Maybe he doesnt consider it running unless he can do it for ages with tricks... but he could defintely get it running.

The track you will have heard a billion times before would be "popcorn" by Hot Butter.  The track in the video has the same name, but is a remix by Aphex Twin.

Thanks for liking it.
