Gear / Mixing Diabolo Cups

i agree with what xfireblade said, be very carefulwith this... but the allen keys that come with finesse axles are pretty short, i found it hard to get the bolts out of mine so i used a piece of steel tubing i found in the garage to give me slightly better torque and got them off no probs.

very nice idea... i'd imagine it would be reasonably easy to mount another led at the other end of the stick? that would surely make for some impressive looking genocides

Tricks / Re: Starting and correcting 2 diabolos

it looks to me like you're doing something which until recently i was absolutely guilty of and i remember seán_ said he sometimes had difficulty with when he tries 3D stuff...

I find that there's a really stong urge when you#'re concentrating really hard on getting something like a shuffle going to lift your arms up so that the diabolos are closer to your eye line. I found it particularly true with my left handstick. try and keep the shuffle low and push the diabolo around the string rather than trying to flick them back and forth (which is much much harder with the diabolos up high). Aside from a helping hand from seán_ and matt in leeds, i found looking at really smooth actions like Ryo's helpful. try to make as smooth a circle as you can, it really helped me.

edit: god, hangovers do nothing for my english skills...

Gear / 2 diabolos with different diabolos
« on: April 08, 2005, 11:51:08 AM »
i'm going to stick my neck outy here and say that whilst it's certainly easier to get a neat shuffle going with identical diabolos, i'm finding learning tricks where you lead with one (i.e. most of them) easier with one circus and one wide axelled finesse... they just make the timing easier since you can feel where the two diabolos are by the way the weigh is distributed.

maybe i'm just odd though

blimey, that's fantastic... some great mioves there, i especially like that floorbounce geniocide at the start, my finesse never seems to keep enough spin to catch after a bounce.

pets and diabolos really don't seem to mix, my puppy is slowly learning that sticking its nose into a a cup whilst the diabolo is spinning is a very silly idea

given that i'm the sort've person who falls over if they don't concentrate whilst walking, i've come to the conclusion that canyone can diabolo, they just have to want to

as Hoop said, is very useful to work through as is

once you've got a good grasp of the fundamentals, start looking at some videos, diabology may be too advance for now but there are plenty of vids out there which may be more realistic. i found quite handy when i started and i still can't do all of it now

Tricks / Standard 2 diabolo sun
« on: April 01, 2005, 10:05:43 PM »
I just spent today learning this trick and two things which i've found to be key:

1.) you need to be smooth rather than trying to snatch at the sun, if you try and finish to quickly you'll find that one or other diabolo drops short and eith falls off the string or finishes with a left hand backwrap.

2.) Don't push the diabolos away from you too hard as i find they tend to come back to you much lower and faster so it's harder to avoid the wrap. Again concentrate on being smooth and keeping the sun in the plane.

don't know if that's at all helpful. I found that less strength and a larger, flowing movement were all it took to get suns so that i land 9 out of 10 now.

the best answer i can give to this is "Whatever i'm working on at the moment!" which today was getting my 2D shuffle nearly perfect and learning armstalls, fans and stickgrinds within the shuffle.

Especially when there are some diaboloists 10 minutes down the road twice a week Lemony (and Martin)! You'd be mad not to take advantage of that

yeah... i should really make it down more often. bloody uni expecting me to do work

still i've got a bit better since i was last down there

i spent last night practising guillotines... i look like i've been mugged

bloodied my nose twice, string burns the whole way round my neck and my circus even managed to take a decent nick out of my ear for good measure... i think i'll go back to trying to correct 2 properly

edit: that looks pretty sore tijn... what were you trying?

i agreewith the idea of finding someone to learn with... but it's also well worth meeting someone who's already really good (at a convention or wherever) as this can be really inspiring.

oddly enough i pulled exactly the same trick this afternoon (completely indpendently, i've not been on here in a while)... it is rather nice, i agree

i was using radiants until recently and found them to be great for most things although it was pretty much impossible to do finger grinds and bounce tricks were very unpredictable... the bells never distorted for me but they did gain a few gouges along the way

General / Possible Diabolo trick search engine...

The wiki is set up and editable, apologies for the fact that i havn't actually added any content yet but i've got coursework to do and rugby to watch...

Please contribute anything you can to it, I'm sure you all know more than me about the diabolo anyway...

Also, i thought i thought i'd leave it up to you guys to think of a better logo than i could come have up with, it will replace the flower logo on the front page and so needs to be 135x135px, post your ideas here or message them to me

Ok, well it seems that for now what people would like most is a wiki... so i'll set one up now, once that's done i'll get in touch with Jim about hooking up to make the search engine which i'll stick up alongside the wiki at some point in the future... that sound like a plan?

as i said, i've administered a wiki for a fair old while now... i could set up a new one simply enough if enough people seemed willing to contribute to it

that would be excellent i agree, i was hoping for some feedback before i approached him though...

i did aim to accept user submissions for the site and also allow the editing of existing page to  some degree... however short of writing my own wiki engine (which is not fun, i've tried before) to thespecifications of the site i think the editing should be fairly tightly controlled...

also, i administer one based on mediawiki and it's been vandalised on a number of occasions
