Tricks / Re: I just learnt to... (2008)
« on: February 27, 2008, 11:42:54 PM »
Hey, Matt, don't suppose you'd want to share some pics of that dog-bitten finesse, by any chance? I'm still curious as to know how it looks...

Anywho, I've been experimenting with infinite suicide genocide releases and interesting ways to re-enter.
So far I've just ended up doing a finger grind of the genocide and doing a suicide start/re-entry, I've also tried a bounce variation of this, but not to much success.

« on: February 27, 2008, 11:38:32 PM »

That's a type of Sundia diabolo, I don't think it has an English name, but it's basically like a Sundia Sun.
So that diabolo hit the floor one too many times and ended up splitting like so, and it recently got a huge crack down the side of the cup that's separated from the axle.

For the moment, I've somewhat fixed the crack by flaming it and sort of re-melding the plastic so it won't flop open, but the two cups are still separate.
I've attempted to use super glue, which failed, and the same flaming method, which didn't seem to be able to melt the axle at all.

Anybody got tips for repairal?

Alright, thanks for pointing out where to find the axles.

As for the other bits, Firetoys e-mailed me back, and responded how they'll see if they can find any lying about (that'd be nice).

And, Paul, what exactly is a DIY store?

On a side note, I don't actually live in the UK, I just prefer Firetoys over the majority of online vendors and I'm going to be ordering some other stuff soon so I want to get some spare parts into my order :)

Is that Sundia Sun, i think so.
But the name is confusing.

Yup, that's the Sundia Sun, you can especially note how there's a picture of a crystal sun :)

Technically the store isn't actually in Taipei :P, but close enough, anyways.

If you've seen the PEH Cup videos and perhaps if you know where the TPEC Building is, that'll give you a decent idea of where the actual store is, since it's about a 15-20 minute walk from the TPEC Building...

And I've noticed that the Fly is in stock in a few places in North America, notably juggling store and higgins brothers, although they go for around 50 USD, which is extremely expensive compared to the ~20 USD when buying directly from Sundia ._.

Crazy looking trick >_>

Don't suppose you've got a non-electronic form of supporting?
Otherwise I need to get a credit card or something, which'll be quite a while, to help out ._.

Yeah, I agree with jacky, but the announcer is essentially there to explain what's going on to those that are oblivious to diabolos whilst naming tricks.
One of my diabolo groups has an announcer that'll talk while demonstrating some tricks.
Although, I do have to say that her talking during the freestyle routines is needless.

If all else fails for the hair...

Get dreadlocks and do a dreadlock grind!
Problem solved.

Gear / Re: It turns out finesses are balanced!
« on: February 22, 2008, 02:07:57 AM »
Well I've mixed up blue/yellow/red so you get all the possibilities...
I've never heard that finesses of different colors are of differing weights, however different generations would definitely have different weights.
Based on all that's given and applying the transverse property (or whatever it's called), I'm assuming that all finesse colors weigh the same.

Diabolo.ca Policy & Feedback / Re: Homepage Embedded IM Client

Isn't this just getting a bit too much hard work. I don't see it happening and I don't think the mods/admins do either.

If you really want to chat; some of us have been using #Diabolo.ca on quakenet recently. (IRC)
Ah, spiffy, I'll drop by sometime when I'm on IRC

Don't suppose you could inform me of the server URL if I were to manually type it into mIRC, would you, Leo?

Perhaps you could use an embedded Java IRC client?
For the bit on protecting the young'uns, you could set up a chatroom that's that's accessible by invites only, and on opening the client, you would be noticed/PM'd to PM an admin/mod for an invite with some veritable to proof that you're of age?
Not sure, exactly :/, perhaps you could just have the chat client heavily monitored, although that may prove to be obnoxious on the moderators' parts...

Ah, that's cool, reminds me of what Eric had done in Of Baguettes and Diabolos, when he did a 2D shower on his stick

Perhaps Nev supplies them on diabolomoves.com?
Or perhaps if you go to Taiwan during the summer or something (if you go to Taiwan, around the Taipei area) and go to the actual Sundia Shop, you could pick some up

Tricks / Re: Starting and correcting 2 diabolos
« on: February 14, 2008, 10:34:27 PM »
If you spin it harder than it needs will the diabolo not be encouraged to slide down the string?
What I had thought was the diabolo didn't have enough spin to start with, which may have been the cause of Tomko's troubles, but it was only a hypothetical solution

Ah, thanks for showing me that, tipiphil!

Still need the light kit parts >_>, and Firetoys has yet to respond :(
Hopefully they'll have the bits I'm missing, if not, I'll just look elsewhere

SoooOOOOoooo ;), I actually have landed better ones now. ;D. I'd call a 3d sprinkler harder though, hence my best trick. Oh well, I can dream ::)

3D sprinkler? Like an actual sprinkler with spinning? Or just a quick wrap/unwrap :(?
Spinning 3D sprinkler would be an interesting sight to see.

« on: February 14, 2008, 01:08:11 AM »
i will admit, this one did go wrong, which is why i called it a prototype, it is unstable, but is still great, it is 21mm wide!!!

i am going to try and shape it more when the Lathe is fixed at school.
:O That's a huge axle, but pretty cool for a selfmade one!
You should make a record long axle just for laughs XD, I know I'd be laughing if you used one onstage :P

Gear / Any places that sell spare parts?
« on: February 14, 2008, 01:05:48 AM »
So over the time that I've possessed my various diabolo props (about a year ::)), I seemed to have misplaced a number of accessories for my finesses, and I was wondering if any of you knew of any places that sell spare parts?

I've recently sent an e-mail to Firetoys asking about this, but I probably won't get an e-mail for a while.

And in case you're wondering, I'm looking for: screws and rechargeable batteries for the finesse light kits, as well as a set of stuff for the normal axle (I usually use wide axles, so I've misplaced a normal axle >_>)

Nice performance, the music went along really well with your performance style :)!
I thought that was a nice ending to such an elaborate performance, starting from one up to three, then ending with a novel 1D trick.

I get the joke at the beginning, go Mandarin speakers :P;)
By the way, what's the song you were using? For some reason it sounds like a Jay Chou song, but I'm probably wrong about that.
