Tricks / Re: Are You Alone With Diaboloing
« on: April 06, 2007, 02:47:55 AM »
I'm somewhat alone... I know people who do diabolo, but aren't especially avid about it, so I'm technically alone, although I do know plenty of people online :)

Well, if you've seen Diabology, then you ought to have seen Eric's awesome grinds with his sticks and his fingers.

One of the things he does is a grind on his index, then he tosses it to his middle finger, then to his ring finger, etc.
Another thing Eric does is with a 2d shuffle, doing a finger grind, tossing that diabolo up, and doing a finger grind with the second diabolo, and then juggle them for awhile.

That's about the most extreme thing I can think of with finger grinds...

No, that was me talking about the normal excalibur. I don´t know for sure, but there´s probably another thread for reversed excalibur.
Oh... well, i don't think i've seen any videos of him doing a normal excalibur...

yeah thats true.
i've found throwing over the right shoulder and whipping straight down to be pretty good.
Hmm... Well, for my blind whip catches, I do it from between my legs, instead of over the shoulder... After that, I either do a duicide or a mini genocide into infinite suicide (based on what type of whip it ends up as: crossed or open)

Don´t know if you still need help but...

Try it, it´s an easy trick. Took me about two tries from first try to getting it solid ;D. The only "hard" part is getting it to face the same way every time. Try imagining an audience and practice to take it down facing them every time. As long as you have decent excalibur you should be fine. You can also back it down or UFO like already suggested. Or, you could just stop it in your hand and spin it again (maybe too easy?).
Thanks, but I've got my excalibur stuff figured out  :), I just stuck it at the end of my whole routine, and I'm just gonna do a UFO and catch it to finish.

And I think I have the way I've seen Yabe go into excalibur than what you've seen... What I saw, was him doing a back satellite and he just slightly tilts it every rotation until it straightens out.
The hardest part for me is doing a back satellite...  :(

Seeing as you seem to be good with suns... I was hoping you could get a good tutorial for between the legs suns?

I've seen it in Diabology, but the angle they show it at doesn't really help me on what you're supposed to do with your legs, since whenever I try, it just hits me on the leg...

I wish I could catch it with the strings crossed because that would be a great start into a mini-geno.

You could always just switch sticks  ;D

Excalibur genocide  ;D only pulled it off twice (the last 2 times i tried it and now its dark  >:() but im chuffed to bits.  Also some arm stall transfer stuff with 2d and almost a double sprinkler sun  :D

Me too for the excalibur genocide! Yay!

Except for me it started to rain really hard and what's worse is it's supposed to rain/sleet/snow pretty soon...

nahxela, The problem u mention abotu the string crossing over when u whip it is usually due to the string being twisted... simply hold one stick up so the other isnt touch the ground, and let the string un-wind... running ur thumb and index finger from top to bottom will help this.. Also u might not be opening ur sticks up enough, when i hold the sticks with one hand i have the sticks nearly at about 160o.. if that makes sence

Oh, that's not the problem I'm talking about, what you're talking about is how the strings tangle like when you do a crossed sticks sun without unweaving your sticks.
In that situation the strings are crossed twice.

What I'm talking about is where the strings are only crossed once. I'm guessing, it's just based on the way I catch it...

Maybe the problem is your using a "yoyo." :P

>_> Just used to using the term "Chinese yoyo" >_>

I am chinese after all, so i think i can get that leverage...

Tricks / Re: blind whip catches
« on: March 14, 2007, 03:38:45 PM »
Something else that helps is if you have a friend who can hold the yoyo in the general area where you usually toss the yoyo, so you can get used to whipping in that area

My problem is getting an open whip catch... usually when I whip the yoyo, I catch it and then it goes into crossed strings (crossed once) so I have to switch sticks or do something like that. I know its easy to get out of... I'm just lazy  :P

Spiffy video there.  :)

Unfortunately, this trick IS one of those types where you just have to practice it over and over again, since there isn't a real way to perfect your toss right off the bat.

I think it's kind of like how when one initially starts to learn how to toss start into multiple diabolo shuffles, since, with most people, the first tosses a person makes usually are pretty horrible - they're wobbly, shaky, and difficult to catch then start up. However, after awhile, the tosses slowly begin to shape up, and you can start off the tosses with perfection.

With whip catches, it's just tossing it consistently behind you in one spot where you will end up whipping to most times, then after awhile you'll just adapt and be adjusted to tossing it in a particular area that you will almost always (maybe 80-90%) make the whip, not a total hundred, since there's always room for error, like an accidental over toss, your yoyo doesn't fully leave the string, then it plops on your head, etc.

Just keep practicing and you'll eventually hit the nail on the head ;)

I thought you meant the normal excalibur. In the normal excalibur you spin around clockwise (if you´re a rightie) and touch the left cup with your right stick to bring it down. I think that´s the easiest and bestlooking way.

If you are talking about round-the-body excalibur I don´t know any really good ways to exit except gradually correcting it back up.

Oh, gosh no, I doubt I would be able to figure that out for a long while... It's quite amazing at how much control he has...

Besides his around the body excalibur, I haven't seen him doing any other entries/exits, but the few videos I've seen around this forum are pretty sufficient.
Martijn, especially, with his genocides, and there was another one I remember that was basically an intro into excalibur and the basic tricks in it.

Look at Ryo Yabes. I think his is the smoothest way. you can also pin the Diabolo on the right side against the stick (if you´re a righty) and use a two-point correction to take it down.

hmm... the only exit/entrance i've seen him do was starting from around the back and into excalibur...

At least I think he exited that way... can't quite remember, although I do remember he entered it that way... which is quite a difficult combination...

Thanks, I've tried reversing my entry, it kinda works sometimes, but most of the time my string just gets caught up on the wheel and spins over a ton of times, which ends up stopping it...

As for the grind out, it doesn't work too well... mainly the UFO exit is what ive done best, but that's still a bit shaky as of now, but I guess I just need practice, then!

Oh, and i still have yet to have seen the motorcycle out(?) Sounds interesting...

Hi, I've been trying out excalibur for a few weeks now, and I've been pretty succesful with getting into it and doing several tricks, but my main problem is exiting out of excalibur

I was wondering if anybody out there could give me a tip on how to exit excalibur smoothly, since the only times I've done so was out of pure dumb luck -_-

Tricks / Re: Antonin's arm integral suicide. 2d?

How far is it into Diabology, and what section?

I'm pretty sure it's in Antonin and Eric's freestyle video ("Of Baguettes and Diabolos"), but I'm not entirely sure when it takes place...

Tricks / Re: Infinite genocides with throws and recaptures
« on: February 25, 2007, 02:27:59 AM »
For your first problem, it might be better if you pull faster, so that the momentum leaves less room for the diabolo to go off course.

Not sure about the 2nd problem... :-[

I think for your 3rd problem it would make more sense to start faster because it'll give you a stronger spin in order for you to perform the trick for a longer time.

Tricks / Re: What trick are you most proud of?
« on: February 25, 2007, 02:22:12 AM »
The trick I'm most proud of right now is probably either infinite suicide or going into excalibur. I can't really do much in excalibur, but it's still a fun thing to show off  :)

Tricks / Re: What trick are you most proud of?
« on: February 25, 2007, 02:21:15 AM »

Is this a difficult trick (it sounds cool 8))?

I think it's a difficult, simply because you have to know which way to send your string, and it's a bit of a risky move (well for me at least). Haven't quite nailed it, but I'm making progress. Antonin does it a lot in "Of Baguettes and Diabolos" video with Eric in Diabology
