Gear / Durability...?

Oh no!!!  Sean just pointed me at this thread, and I just got a pair of aluminum handsticks.  Am I going to ruin my circus hubs?  What is the major cause of this, and prevention?  Thanks

Tricks / Re: Starting and correcting 2 diabolos

Thanks guys.  Yeah, the spin before letting go tip helps! :)   I kept trying and the diabolos kept crashing, not shuffling.  :(   I almost got it last night.  Once the second diabolo is coming down, do I have to toss the first one up to make room, or does the unwrapping of the second one automatically do this?

Thanks Sean with the line over your name.       The only area I didn't understand was the very beginning.  Am I reaching out around the right string and then pointing my fingers back at myself?  If not, I can't seem to work out how the right side of the axle touches the left side of the right string and the pinky finger of my palm up right hand is nearest the string>??     If it is, then I guess that makes sense, since my arm can't pass through the stick.  :)   I hope I haven't made more confusion.  I really want to learn 2d!!!  Thanks

Hi, would someone please either describe or tell me where to find a description of a wrap start?  I saw a video of it (I think) on this thread, but it looks like the guy is maybe left-handed?  I can't quite make out what is going on there.  I have been getting one diabolo spinning fast then wrapping the right stick counter-clockwise once around the second diabolo and trying to get it spinning.  It hasn't worked at all, so I'm thinking maybe I'm doing something wrong.  Thanks for any help!

Performances / "Diabolos Night" Act

Very cool Priam!!!  I have been practicing under UV with my friend who DJ's.  He's trying to come up with some good music to go along with the tricks, like a custom track.  I like your outfit,  I have fluorescent tape for my sticks and I use the Henry's yellow string.  We thought that just the sticks string and diabolo didn't look cool enough to anyone but the performer, so I tried white gloves and white shoes/laces that react.  I think I should have a belt too. :)   I am wondering what kind of equipment you used, string type and UV light types. My string doesn't appear as brightly as your's.   I am very inspired by your video, although you are better in the dark than I am in broad daylight!   :P

Hi, It looks like you are at about the same level as me.  :)   I am waiting for the Diabology DVD to come to the US.  I am also trying to learn 2 diabolos now.  Have you done around the arm orbits?  Also try the flux capacitor trick on  That is a cool looking trick that is about our level. :)  Cat's cradle and coffee grinder are fun too.  If you want to practice passing diabolos with me, just tell me when.  I'll stand on the beach here, and you stand on your beach and we'll throw them back and forth to each other!

Hi Wes,  Your site is nice!  I am hoping to visit Japan soon.  Maybe you can teach me some good Diabolo tricks?  :)   I might have to visit Matt Hall first, to learn some good Japanese.  Are you going to Hokkaido International School by any chance?  Your English is very good.

Gear / Spin tip

I was messing around with different spin techniques yesterday and I found something that helped me a lot.  I thought some other members here would find it useful.  I'm know that the diabolos with patterns printed on them are useful as well, but lighted diabolos really help you see just how much spin you are getting.  I'm not sure about the vega or finesse light sets, but I was using a diabglo and it shows up very well.  It's more difficult for me to see how fast a solid color diabolo is spinning and the patterns on some diabolos tend to blur together after a certain speed.  With Diabglos however, you can see the LEDs at all times.

Tricks / Diabology and speed ups?

Well, I had a semi-nice day yesterday, so I took my circus outside.  I only counted, (didn't use a stop watch) but my spin lasted a little over 10 seconds before the diabolo started to turn and tilt.   :)    I did try to make the count accurate, not just a fast 1,2,3,4,5...    :P   So according to Sean's Seamon's chart, I'm okay.  I guess now I just have to work on regenerations within tricks.

No kidding?  I just figured it would be in French.  Isn't that where most of their sales will be made?  I thought another interesting aspect of the spin times would be number of pulls/orbits.  On average, how many pulls/orbits do you make to generate a good spin?   Is there a peaking point where additional pulls/orbits/whips are not adding more spin.  Sometimes I just keep trying to add spin all day to get ready to attempt a new trick, and by the time I think it's fast enough, I've forgotten which trick I wanted to do!

Thanks for the info guys.  I am really excited about the Diabology DVD, but I will wait for the NTSC version.  How are the Diabolo Folies videos?  As for spin, please consider the following...  Using a Henry's Circus (few years old) and not so wonderful hardware store string (braided), about how long should a good spin last on average?  For instance, if I were to do wrapped orbits and then open the string and stop all motion, how long should the diabolo continue spinning?  I know this is subjective, but I'm looking for a rough idea.  I never feel like I am getting enough spin.

Hi, I have been trying to diabolo for quite some time now, but I've been limited in my learning resources.  I'm very glad to have found this site.  Thanks Sean and everyone who contributes.  I'm sure these questions have been asked, and I apologize.  First, any word on when the Diabology DVD will be released in NTSC format, and will it have English translations?  Second, until recently, my speed up method was just to do a right wrap and pull.  I've been trying the wrapped orbit method and the chinese whip thrusts.  Should I be getting a faster spin with those two than with the right wrap pulls?  It seems to be about the same.  I see in the videos, people are doing the whip thrusts very quickly and about 3 or 4 thrusts...  How the heck do they get so much spin out of it?  I am using poor string, but I'm afraid that that is actually helping me (more surface area).  Well, thank you all.
