Quote from: Mattias
I wanna live in a country that is exactly like sweden but have southern italy winters but swedish summers.

The greenhouse effect will probbably fix that in a coupple of years...
If not, marry an aussie girl and spend half the year down there... Sounds like a nice idea to me

Tricks / starting 2 fire diabolos...
« on: October 01, 2005, 08:30:33 PM »
Seems like lots of people think that geting 2 firediabolos going is a hard one...
I have a start that woks wonders  witouth anny fuzz.
place the first diabolo on the string, backwrap the other and place it beside the first. Get the diabolos roling to the left by pushing the first diabolo eith the rigth hand stick.  (the backwraped second diabolo is pulled along by the string). then just lift the sticks and unwrap and keep going...

Pink sucks...
My costume has been all pink for about five years and i get more men trying to pick me up than girls...:(

I still love my costume since it is verry vissible and helps atract attention when streatperforming.

Some of us are jugglers, some of us are performers, and some of us are musicians or even sientists. We migth all of us want to talk about other things than diabolo once in a while. But I dont think this is the rigth place for these discussions. rec.juggling is the place to talk juggling, where you talk street, and im sure there already are forums "out there" dedicated to most toppics you can think of... I think this forum is great because the toppics we are discussing is quiet narrow.
However i think that it would be a good idea to divide this forum into sub categories since it seems we get more and more posts every day.

General / We need a name for our group
« on: June 15, 2005, 12:23:19 AM »
Something with the word monkey/monkeys in it is always a good name.:-)
For examples: The monkey brothers ,
Monkey kong or the diabolic monkey trio
or something better... (sorry im verry sleapy ... )
The name deosn´t have to be logical, but shuld make people curious about what you are doing.  I like seans ide as well.

Tutorials / S-Fan Exits: A Video Tutorial (with 2 new exits)
« on: June 03, 2005, 11:10:53 AM »
New s-fan exit that works in practise for me!!!
When Lh dibolo passes Rh stick stop the fanning movements and do a milisecond grind on the RH stick and simply flick it up into the air and catch it in the shuffle when its comming back down again. Its so simple that I wonder why nobody did it before (maybe they have but just dont want to tell...)
I actually landed this on the fift atempt.

Tricks / Diabolo + Ring?
« on: June 01, 2005, 11:58:04 PM »
I use a thin metalring (3mm steel ring 35 cm across)  when I do this.
I can get pretty long grinds in this ring (30-40 seconds at least). and long grinds is nessecary for  this trick that  thougth up on my own some years ago and now do it in my show every day... Since this is kind of how I make a living I do hope you guys appreshiate that Im sharing it with you.

At the start I have the ring around the neck and the diabolo spinning fast on the string.
I grab both sticks in LH and the ring in RH and then lift the diabolo of the string with the ring.
I do some swinging moves with the  diabolo and ring since it looks nice :-).
Then I pop the diabolo up into the air and move one of the sticks to my RH so that the stick goes through the ring and catch the diabolo on the string and sped it up some.
(actually everything so far is done just to get the ring around the stick in a flasshy way:-)) here comes the cool part:
Then I pop the diabolo up and catch it in the ring and release the ring.
The ring will now hang on the string with the diabolo spinning inside.
Then I swing everyting around and do 2 or 3 skipping rope jumps over ring and diabolo.
To get the diabolo back on the string and get rid of the ring you have to put the stick through the ring catch it in your hand and then toss the diabolo from the ring to the string.

I also made a dent in one of my metalrings so I culd balance the diabolo on top of it. (Its easy to hide the dent pretty well if you know annything about magic...). I recall that I culd balance the ring with the diabolo spinning on top on/in my teeth and then let it drop forwards so that the diabolo was spinning inside the ring that was held in place by my teeth.

I also had some idea of tying a ring to a fishing rod with a long string. I never made annyting out of it though.

Another similar idea to explore is to take one of those things that you catch butterflies with (dont know the englis word ) and remove the net. You can then spin the diabolo in "the thing that you catch butterflies with" and do some swinging with it.

ps I culd do three diabolos years ago, two in the shuffle and one spinning in a metal ring held in my mouth... maybe its possible to spit the ring out and start a 3d shuffle from this possition  8)

Gear / Diabolo customization.

I dont find my alu sticks verry "slippery" but i guess its different for everyone.
The only problem with them is that suicide tricks is hard to do
(less weight => moves faster) and hurts a lot
(no damping foam/silicone to protect you).

Another idea for a non permanent mod of your gear is to squese a
CD into each of the cups of a circus diabolo. It fits verry tigthly at
the little edge inside the cup.  It looks kind of like you have got CDs
squesed into the cups...
This can affect (tremporaly) the stability of  the diabolo and can
cause it to "freak out" if it has loads of spinn.
(dont try to do the "in the hole" grind, I broke 2 cd-s in five atempts...)

Dont do the "finger in the hole" grind, it burns...
And dont drop the diabolo , just broke a third CD doing that

mrpink, dont your hands hurt real bad after you diabolo for a while. I never heard of just using a metal stick. I guess that is pretty unique, can only imagine how blistered your hands are.

No I dont get anny blisters, Not worse than from wooden sticks annyway.
Well actually I got some blisters at the last jugglingconvention I visited.
But nonstop diabolo for days does that whatever gear you use.

P.s arn't the bottom of the alu sticks bottom part made out of dense foam not silicon?

I remove the silicon handles from my alu sticks so that they are all alu...
I like them that way , and you can do grinds on the other end of the stick as well. Otherwise I use standard gear.
