Name: Jake
Location: Long Beach, California
Age: 21

1. How many years have you diaboloed for? Approaching 1 year since i first picked it up.

2. What or who got you started?
A little 3 inch diabolo at my juggling club and learning the roll start got me first trick was a behind the back catch...

3. What do you like best about the diabolo or juggling in general?
Relaxing, challenging, and very very fun ... as well as rewarding because you practice so hard and fail so many times and in the end finally getting it.

4. How many hours a day do you diabolo on average? admittingly usually 1 hour at most 2...i need to step it up...

5. Do you ever perform with the diabolo? for my friends i do...i always get lots of support from them and encouragement...i plan on going to Venice Beach , CA once i can do 3 low or high...and do a little diddy...let thousands of people see the wow's of diaboloing...noo one freakin knows what its even called, let alone seeing one before...

6. Do you juggle other props? If so: balls, clubs, rings, cigar boxes, devil sticks... ? i can juggle 3 balls (wow) but i also enjoy passing clubs 4 count, everies, 1 count...thats about my extent..also some trick catching while passing is fun..

7. What are your favourite diabolos, sticks, and string? Circus's .. henrys yellow, henrys aluminum...i havent owned anything else, but i like my combination the best whenever i try other peoples stuff...

8. Do you like working with 1, 2, or 3 diabolos the best?right now i love 2...

9. What is your favourite diabolo trick that you can do? hmm....a 2 high shuffle with a sun while one of them is in the air...simple sort of i guess, but i love the catching and going right back in a shuffle part...

10. What is the most amazing diabolo trick you've ever seen done? in person...probably the excalibur work i saw ben do at the ventura festival...i got see up close and in person the awesomeness of excalibur genocides...

11. What tricks are driving you nuts right now (what are you working on)? FANS!

12. What other diaboloists have inspired you?[/url]Chris (Draco) , Matt Hall, Ben...*those are diaboloists ive met and been able to learn a thing or two from* and then all the videos ive watched from people that inspire me....The guy who did "drop and change" , Sean( ... must i say more..) , Arjan (that video you put out that was filmed mostly in the country and woods was great!), Martijn (awesome tutorial vids!) , the MFP, hmm im sure there's more...

General / Getting others truly motivated to diabolo
« on: February 04, 2006, 08:56:34 AM »
what got me motivated to practice a lot, was a lot of the videos on this site...i didnt realize the amount of vids on the forum here then, and so i watched all the videos that Sean made...that got me wanting to learn 2 really bad...

then when i went to the Juggling and Unicycling Festival in Berkley, CA
and had a lot of people help me learn 2diabolo starts better, i began to really practice a lot!

also while i was there i met Chris, (one of the crazy silver creek diaboloers) and since the fest, we've kept in contact and from then till now he's been my biggest motivation because i see what he's doing and i really wana get to his level...

right now im working on my own trick ideas and am really looking forward to a trip where my far-away friend and i can really make some cool vids and just diabolo, ALL...DAY...LONG...i honestly can't wait...i would be dissapointed in myself if i didn't make the 5 hour long drive worth it by diaboloing every spare moment!

wanting to get to the lvl of my peers is what motivates me the most, i wana be able to explore the realm of diabolo passing. imo, i think thats where it's at   ;)

awesome vid, i know that when im ready to learn s-fans this vid will be a top resource! nice job!

well this particular diabolo is all metal...i think there are some that arent and they may have some sort of fire-resistant rubber around the cups for when u drop it..but im sure a rocket start could work...just youd need to be quick lighting them on fire..and if the start fails..picking them up would be a fun little challenge  ;P

it's a fyrefli fire diabolo...i like it a almost positive it's a ball bearing diabolo can hear it when you the diabolo spinning really fast...

recently ive gotten a sick idea on how to do 2d shuffle with fire diabolos...

do a wrap start for 2d shuffle and right before u spin the diabolo to start it spinning have 2 of your friends light the ends and then spin the diabolo and unwrap into the shuffle...seems like it would all i need is a 2nd fire diabolo...heh..oh and stopping the shuffle is still a mystery in my head heh...someone out there try it!
