Videos / Re: Where does it start? - Diabolo video by Vivian van Buul
« on: April 28, 2013, 08:51:23 PM »
so im going to give you some constructive criticism. but first i'd like to say well done! you have progressed so much and so quickly over the last few years and really upped your creativity. soo! on the down side... i got bored watching your video... and ive realised that i get bored watching most of your videos for the same reason. which is the fact that you used the same camera angle the whole way through. as far as i see you dont have a tripod? i would really look into investing into getting one. you can get them on ebay for 10-15 euros i should think. for what your doing theres no need in splashing out on a pricy one. the reason for this is that for all of the shots, the ground takes up more space than you do, which takes the focus of you. you had one good shot at 1:30, and you could do a lot more.

so recap:
more angles (not all straight on)
take the camera off the ground (its fine for maybe one, for example it worked for your last shot)
and make sure you always have good/interesting lighting (shadow ruined trick at 3:30 imo, and for what i mean by interesting, look at sebi and tato's latest vid, or counting escalator steps by wes peden)
and as people have said in the past, as interesting locations as possible.( the panning shot at 1:20 was just pretty dull... like look at the shots in flutterby by jarle and hovvi.)

i say this because its a shame to be doing so many cool tricks and them feeling repetitive and boring. hope this was useful. and dont get me wrong your videos have awesome content, its just you need to plan it a bit more to make it interesting.

Gear / Re: Duct tape on sticks
« on: April 22, 2013, 12:15:15 AM »
i have bits of tape on most of my sticks. it generally stays on really well with no problem. and it deffinately makes integrals and suicides look more interesting! i use electrical insulation tape because its cheap, you can get it in loads of colours. its sticks on everything and its thin so you can have a thin line if you want or a thicker one if you wrap it up the sticks. anyways. tapes cool!

what are your intentions? by duct tape do you mean the colourful insulation tape people often use to add a bit of colour or actual duct tape?

otherwise i was thinking pvc pipes for plumbing. that would be rigid and you could even get screw on lids

no i think its awesome that its not just one style as to say.i've had to practice a few things i've never really tried. i think to keep it open to everyone maybe it shouldn't pass 2d. or maybe have a different one with 3d. but ya! also. can you specify. what exactly do you mean by vertax whip?

Performing / Re: Australia's Got Talent 2013 Audition Routine Idea!
« on: March 08, 2013, 11:04:03 PM »
i dont want to offend you by this. so what im going to say is:
entering a competition like this, theres no point in entering if you dont feel confident you have a chance at winning. sadly for you, agt has already witnessed one diaboloist of very high standards who came second, and as the_vik_vh said, they will be expecting a performance of to the same standard or better. they've seen 3 diabolo's so they no thats possible and will be expecting stuff of that level.  and say theoretically you did get into the live shows, the public will inevitably compare you to William. and regardless of how complec or incredible your 1d and 2d tricks are. they will want 3d.

my advice is what you've already heard. i think its great that you want to enter, but i would recommend spending another few years practicing. entering talent shows, performing when you can. because diaboloing for a video is a hell of a lot of a different style to performing. so focus on performing. head up, enthusiasm. train hard and hit the big stage in a few years.

hope that didn't sound harsh or anything. i think you're a great guy and obviously know a lot about diabolo and really enjoy it. just put in a few more hours if you get what i mean.

most people use tape. graffiti will most likely chip off i should think. unless you got a special metal spray paint (the stuff you use on cars)

i didnt even realise you could get different thicknesses of string! either way it'll just be preference, both will work.

Performances / Re: Diabolo/ general circus Showreel
« on: March 01, 2013, 04:36:10 PM »

well i really liked the filming it was really well shot. the only shot i didnt like was the one wear you were doing the chain poi and you can only see your legs. but the poi with the yellow flags were really affective. and ya, nice use of slow mo, it wasnt over the top.

with diabolo. what you did was very clean and skilful, just use this forum to expand and learn more and ya. its great for that.
juggling: with the clubs where you were doing the right hand throw under your left hand. try and learn the otherside as well. then it looks really cool.

but ya well done
and welcome

Performances / Re: 3rd Diabolo video !!!!
« on: February 25, 2013, 11:02:15 PM »
very good!, small improvements that could be made:
-work on your 2 diabolo hover start a bit more, you look very rushed. it just takes time and practice.
-work on catching the stick first time round and not letting it spin twice, and if it does soin twice, film again until you get it clean.
-also finally when editing, trim the start off of two diabolo so you're not showing your start, (unless that's a trick in itself) it just makes it look more fluid.

hope that helps

Gear / Re: diabolo axle switch?
« on: February 25, 2013, 06:51:00 PM »
that is a possibility but unless you do it very well you will most likely end up with more wobble then in a purposely made bearing diabolo.

i have met a few people who have built their own bearing diabolo's (for example circus with a sundia fly axel) but the string sometimes got caught between the axel and the cups because they didn't fit very well...
anyways thats up to you.

otherwise i have 2 sundia fly's that i dont really want that i could give you one of for a small price (maybe £15 plus postage not sure).
pm me if you're interested.
